Locating Source of Referral Traffic
-
Hey Folks,
I have discovered a Korean site is sending considerable traffic to a specific landing page on my client's cosmetic surgery site in California. I am concerned Google may deem this as spammy - I know I do.
I have been able to track the referral traffic to this point: cluster1.cafe.daum.net/c21/bbs_read which appears to be a community-based site and/or forum. However, I can not locate the exact source where the href back to my client's site resides.
Given that my Korean is not exactly up to par
and Google translate only takes me so far, can any of you suggest an advanced query or method of tracking to pinpoint the source page?
Thanks!

It appears to be "touch and run" traffic. And, I can't pinpoint the exact location of the link within the cluster I mentioned above, so at this point, I can't earmark it for exclusion even if I wanted to.
I was not aware of the Naver engine.
Thank you for the insightful response!

Is it that traffic relevant to your site, or it is just a "touch and run" (aka: causing a lot of bounce rate)?
Before deleting ALL the links fearing some sort of penalization from Google, try to understand the nature and story of the link.
In fact, if it was just spammy link, it would not probably generate any traffic. Instead, that forum post is generating referral traffic, which means that is in a thread that matters to Korean people.
More over, in South Korea the most used search engine is not Google, but Naver, which works very differently from Google and some of its pages actually looks like forum pages.
So... personally I don't think that that link is a spammy one, but probably an useless one if the traffic it generates is not generating conversions (of any kind).

Thanks, SEO 5, I suppose it's worth a shot.

Try emailing the forum administrator for help. They may assist in pinpointing the source of the traffic and the exact link on the forum causing it.

Losing referrer data on http link that redirects to an https site when on an https site. Is this typical or is something else going on here?
I am trying to resolve a referral data issue. Our client noticed that their referrals from one of their sites to another had dropped to almost nothing from being their top referrer. The referring site SiteA which is an HTTPs site, held a link to SiteB, which is also an HTTPs site, so there should be no loss, however the link to SiteB on SiteA had the HTTP protocol. When we changed the link to the HTTPs protocol, the referrals started flowing in. Is this typical? If the 301 redirect is properly in place for SiteB, why would we lose the referral data?

High Bounce Rate on traffic generating area of our site
Hi, Our eCommerce site currently includes a blog section known as Igloo which we have filled with unique and helpful content that is useful to a fair few people, not just customers of ours. It currently attracts a large number of visitors (more than the actual eCommerce side of the site in actual fact) organically who aren't currently customers of ours. Very few of these turn in to paying clients so it's not really a money spinner but it has worked quite well from a linkbait perspective / traffic generation perspective and undoubtedly a few of these people do end up making a purchase on the actual shopping end of our site. We're look at ways to encourage these people finding help on this free resource to take a look at our homepage and hopefully make an order but in the meantime I am worried that there may be a few downsides to us creating this content: Google may see us more as a help site than a shopping site. Since selling products is where we make our money this could ultimately be a bad thing. Our bounce rate is REALLY high (I'm talking around 94%) on the help site versus around 20% on the eCommerce site. I guess people land on the article they want, read it and then disappear. Would this bounce rate skew our entire site stats and ultimately result in decreased performance in the SERPS. I would appreciate your opinions and, in the event you do feel it may be hurting us overall perhaps some suggestions on how to mitigate the effects? Many thanks!

Does "not provided" affect the referral traffic data?
There is a discrepancy between what an referring site is showing as clicks back to my site versus what Google Analytics is showing. For example - They are stating that their site sent 100 clicks to my site. The GA data shows 25 referred clicks from that site. Could this be due to the "not provided" that hides most of the keyword data?

Deleted Rarely Visited Pages - Traffic Dropped (Big Time)
Hi folks: I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have on a problem I am having with organic traffic. One of our sites has about 500 pages/blog posts. We had about 200 pages that no one was visiting, or only one to ten people had visited in an entire year. As a result, we decided to experiment, and delete any page which had fewer than 5 visits in a year. This resulted in a deletion of about 90 pages. We did this on April 6 or 7 of this year. Two days later, we had a substantial drop in visits to the site. We had been getting about 300 sessions a day. Now, we are lucky to get that in a month. I know there was an algorithm update in late March, but our traffic dropped about two weeks after that, and a day or so after the deletion of the pages. There is a clear demarcation on analytics. I gave it a month, the traffic did not recover, so we decided to restore the pages. Traffic has not recovered and it has been about 3 months now. Does anyone have any thoughts on why we might have experienced such a drastic drop as well as what we might do to recover from it? Thanks very much

Separating branded from non branded org. traffic volume
What is the easiest way of separating branded from non branded org. traffic volume? I've created great rankings for a client, and at the same time their brand searches seem to have dropped a lot. How do I present this in the best way since GA only shows little org. keyword info. Thanks!

Paid Search Referral
I have a brand new site with a paid search referral in my G&A, but we are not running any adwords or any paid marketing for it. The referral is "not set" so I do not know where it is coming from.

Google Analytics Report throws up Google as a referrer
Good morning from Wet & Windy 12 degrees C wetherby UK... Using Google analytics I've noticed in the traffic sources refferer subsection some traffic is categorized as originating from Google. Whats puzzling me is.... I know a huge amount of traddic stems from Google but as the below screenshot illustrates only 21 visitors come from Google: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-refferal-sources-top-levelcopy.jpg And when i drill down some are coming from Google mobile 😞 http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-referral-sourcescopy.jpg Is traffic categorised as Google referrer down to Google hiding searches via ssl as explained here: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/google-referral-sourcescopy.jpg Any insights welcome 🙂
