Is duplicate content harmful? Example from on my site
-
I'm not talking about content copied from another site but content unique to a site being used on several pages.
I have a delivery tab that has precisely the same content as another product page. This content is on four product pages and the dedicated delivery page.
Thanks

One possible option would be to pull-in the duplicate content (shipping info) via an iframe on every page, so the content doesn't actually live on the page.
That being said, you have a lot of unique content on each page, and I don't think the duplicated content on these pages would be a problem.
-
That's the thing, these are the worst performing pages and I'm exploring possible reasons.
-
If the duplicated content is only part of the overall page, and the rest of the page is basically unique and different, I wouldn't worry too much. That said, watch rankings and traffic to these pages. If it seems to be lower than expected or it seems that it isn't growing as much as other parts of the site you might want to make it more unique.

Hi Matthew
They aren't duplicated pages but they contain duplicate content.
Most of the content on the four product pages is unique, but each page has duplicate delivery information in a tab.

Hi,
In general, yes, duplicate content is not good and can be harmful to your site. There are many reasons why this is true, but in terms of search it can be bad because it can divide the focus.
Let's say those four pages that are duplicated on your site are really important pages. You want those pages to rank and get traffic. By having duplicate content, you are dividing the focus across multiple pages. You'll have links going to all those pages, instead of all those links going to one page (internal and external). The same is true of social shares (to whatever extent that influences search). This makes your job that much harder to optimize those pages because you are dividing the focus across all four pages when really you should put all the focus behind one page.
Obviously, there are other issues beyond search. Duplicated pages can be bad for usability and can be a sign of an architecture that needs to be re-worked.
Hope that helps.

Duplicate content query
I'm currently reauthoring all of the product pages on our site. Within the redesign of all the pages is a set of "why choose us?" bullet points and "what our customers say" bullet points. On every page these bullet points are the same. We currently have 18% duplicate content sitewide and I'm reluctant to push this. The products are similar but targeted at different professions, so I'm not sure whether to alter the text slightly for the bullet points on each page, remove the bullet points entirely or implement some form of canonicalisation that won't impact the profession-specific pages' ability to rank well.

Duplicate content from page links
So for the last month or so I have been going through fixing SEO content issues on our site. One of the biggest issues has been duplicate content with WHMCS. Some have been easy and other have been a nightmare trying to fix. Some of the duplicate content has been the login page when a page requires a login. For example knowledge base article that are only viewable by clients etc. Easily fixed for me as I dont really need them locked down like that. However pages like affiliate.php and pwreset.php that are only linked off of a page. I am unsure how to take care of these types. Here are some pages that are being listed as duplicate: Should this type of stuff be a 301 redirect to cart.php or would that break something. I am guessing that everything should point back to cart.php.

https://www.bluerayconcepts.com/brcl...php?a=checkout These are the ones that are really weird to me. These are showing as duplicate content but pwreset is only a link of the KB category. It shows up as duplicate many times as does affilliate.php: https://www.bluerayconcepts.com/brcl...ebase/16/Email

Is there a way to tell Google a site has duplicated content?
Hello, We are joining 4 of our sites, into 1 big portal, and the content from each site gonna be inside this portal and sold as a package. We don't wanna kill these sites we are joining at this moment, we just wanna import their content into the new site and in a few months we will be killing them. Is there a way to tell Google to not consider the content on these small sites, so the new site don't get penalised? Thanks,

"Issue: Duplicate Page Content " in Crawl Diagnostics - but these pages are noindex
Saw an issue back in 2011 about this and I'm experiencing the same issue. http://moz.com/community/q/issue-duplicate-page-content-in-crawl-diagnostics-but-these-pages-are-noindex We have pages that are meta-tagged as no-everything for bots but are being reported as duplicate. Any suggestions on how to exclude them from the Moz bot?

Does schema.org assist with duplicate content concerns
The issue of duplicate content has been well documented and there are lots of articles suggesting to noindex archive pages in WordPress powered sites. Schema.org allows us to mark-up our content, including marking a components URL. So my question simply, is no-indexing archive (category/tag) pages still relevant when considering duplicate content? These pages are in essence a list of articles, which can be marked as an article or blog posting, with the url of the main article and all the other cool stuff the scheme gives us. Surely Google et al are smart enough to recognise these article listings as gateways to the main content, therefore removing duplicate content concerns. Of course, whether or not doing this is a good idea will be subjective and based on individual circumstances - I'm just interested in whether or not the search engines can handle this appropriately.

Do videos count as duplicate content?
If we allow users to embed our videos on their site, would that count as duplicate content? I imagine note, given that Google can't usually 'see' the content of videos, but just want to double check.
