Should I care about this Webmaster Tools Message
-
Here is the message:
"Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site: http://www.uncommongoods.com/"
Should i try to do anything about this? We are not having any indexation issues so we think Google is still crawling our whole site. What could be some possible repercussions of ignoring this?
Thanks Mozzers!

Hi Zack,
Just checking in to see if you had run any other tests to determine why this message might have appeared (e.g. a site crawl to find duplication / bad canonicalisation, etc.)? Let me know if you still need assistance.
Cheers,
Jane

Also agree with David, but it wold not hurt to ensure that your XML sitemaps are up-to-date and an accurate reflection of your site's content. It also does not hurt to clean up any potential duplicate URL issues that your site may have. Otherwise you do not need to put a lot of weight into this message from GWT.
-
David is spot on aobut the titles and urls. Large DB driven sites tend to cause big issues off of simple mistakes in coding or content entry.
I have to say "Crawl it" again.
-
Since it is an ecommerce store with a lot of products, its natural for you to have a lot of URLs. As long as your content, titles, and urls are unique, I wouldn't pay a lot of attention to it.
Did a site search, and it came up with "About 181,000 results" that were indexed. If you know that number to be excessive, I would begin checking to see if you have cms generated URLs, that may be causing such a high page count.
-
I would crawl the site and look for and spider traps or potential duplicate content. I make it a point to do so every time I see one of these notices and I have found things after these notices that could potentially or havecontributed to a Panda filter.
Although I do recommend at least weekly crawls on larger sites, these notices area good prompt to do it if you have been lax on your audits.

If Google sends you a message, I'd listen.
Generally, these messages comes when you don't have something set correctly in your parameters. Have you set canonicals for your items?

Hi Guys, Any free site speed testing tools for sites in production, which are password protected? We want to test site speed before the new site goes live on top priority pages. Site is on Shopify – we tried google page insights while being logged into the production site but believe its just recording the speed of the password page. Cheers.

Does MOZ Have a Tool to Find a Competitors Broken Links?
I would like to use MOZ to identify a competitors broken links. Does MOZ have such a tool? Where is it? My SEO consultant suggests that we have bloggers write contend and then link it to our site. I am concerned about the quality of the links that will be generated. He is confident that they will be of high quality and the process will be relatively quick and easy. My concern is future spam penalty or low quality links. Another consultant suggested replacing a competitors broken links. How effective is this? Is it more labor intensive than other link building techniques? Thanks,

Large Number of Links appearing in Google Webmaster Tools
Hello, In the last week we have noticed an extremely large number of backlink links appearing in Google Webmaster Tools. One of the sites which links to us now have over 101,000 backlinks pointing to us, when in reality it should only have 300-600. We have check the websites have not been hacked, with hidden links etc, but we can not find any. Has anyone else experienced problems with Google webmaster tools lately, displaying way too many links? Or could this be a negative SEO attack, which is yet to emerge. Thanks Rob

Discrepancy in keyword ranking from webmasters and actual ranking.
I have been tracking ranks of some keywords important to my business since the last 2 months. Recently I have observed that, for one of my keywords, google webmasters is giving the avg position as 8 but when i search in google it comes in the 6th page. I know that webmasters tools gives the average position but i do not think there will be such big difference in the ranks. Please help.Thanks.

Brand sections performing badly in SERP's but all SEO tools think we are great
I have had this problem for some time now and I've asked many many experts. Search for Falke in Google.co.uk and this is what you get: http://www.sockshop.co.uk/by_brand/falke/ 3rd Our competitor
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | jpbarber
http://www.mytights.com/gb/brand/falke.html 4th Our competitor http://www.uktights.com/section/73/falke 104th this is us ????? 9th for Falke tights with same section not our falke tights section? All sites seem to link to their brand sections in the same way with links in the header and breadcrumbs, Opensite exporler only shows 2 or 3 internal links for our compertitors, 1600+ from us?
Many of our brand sections rank badly Pretty Polly and Charnos brands rank page 2 or 3 with a brand subsection with no links to them, main section dosn't rank? Great example is Kunert, a German brand no UK competition our section has been live for 8 years, the best we can do is 71st Google UK, 1st on Bing (as we should be). I'm working on adding some quality links, but our comtetitors have a few low quality or no external links, only slightly better domain authority but rank 100+ positions better than us on some brands. This to me would suggest there is something onpage / internal linking I'm doing wrong, but all tools say "well done, grade A" take a holiday. Keyword denisty is similar to our competiors and I've tried reducing the number of products on the page. All pages really ranked well pre Penguin, and Bing still likes them. This is driving me nuts and costing us money Cheers Jonathan

Custom sitemap or sitemap generator tool
I have recently launched a website which is using a free sitemap generator (http://web-site-map.com/). It's a large travel agency site (www.yougoadventure.com) with predominantly dynamically generated content - users can add their products as and when and be listed automatically. The guy doing the programming for the site says the sitemap generator is not up to the job and that I should be ranking far better for certain search terms than the site is now. He reckons it doesn't provide lastmod info and the sitemap should be submitted every time a new directory is added or change made. He seems to think that I need to spend £400-£500 for him to custom build a site map. Surely there's a cheaper option out there for a sitemap that can be generated daily or 'ping' google every-time an addition to the site is made or product added? Sorry for the non tech speak - Ive got my web designer telling one thing and the programmer another so im just left trawling through Q&As. Thanks

Blog Subscribers Count Tool
So, I have about 100 different blogs that I am starting to organize into a list of potential guest blog opportunities. I wanted to see how many subscribers each blog had to their site to better help identify the top influential blogs. The only way I know how to do this is to search for the site inside of Google reader. I was wondering if anybody knows of a tool or knows a way to scrape the blog subscriber count from Google docs, or something more scalable. Thanks, Jason

Is Google Webmaster tools Accurate?
Is Google webmaster Tools data completely inaccurate, or am I just missing something? I noticed a recent surge in 404 errors detected 3 days ago (3/6/11) from pages that have not existed since November 2011. They are links to tag and author archives from pages initially indexed in August 2011. We switched to a new site in December 2011 and created 301 redirects from categories that no longer exist, to new categories. I am a little perplexed since the Google sitemap test shows no 404 errors, neither does SEO MOZ Crawl test, yet under GWT site diagnostics, these errors, all 125 of them, just showed up. Any thought/insights? We've worked hard to ensure a smooth site migration and now we are concerned. -Jason
