Calculating page visit duration for bounced visits?
-
IS there any way on Google Analytics to calculate page visit duration for bounced visits? if so, what would need to be done?
-
The definition of a bounce does not change. Any user that enters your site and leaves without interacting with the site again is a bounce.
The key phrase there is "interacting with the site". An interaction might be another pageview or an event.
The code listed above fires an event after 3 minutes, so those users are no longer classified as bouncers. They interacted again.

thanks. does adding the timeout method change the definition of a bounce on GA?
meaning, if someone bounces, i still want it to show as a bounce - but I also want to see the time they were on the page.
-
Completely inaccurate.
The Google search ranking algorithm is completely separate from that of Google Analytics. The search algorithm's definition of a bounce is based on when a user comes back to the SERPs after visiting your page. That metric wouldn't change no matter what you do to your Google Analytics (unless you somehow muck up the GA snippet so much that it causes page load delays and actually affects user behavior).

thanks, I was reading somewhere that it affects the actual bounce rate, making it lower than it is and at some point google would take notice and lower rank.
how accurate is that?

You need to add setTimeout() method in your Google Analytics Tracking code something like this:
_setTimeout(“_gaq.push(['trackEvent','Profitable Engagement','time on page more than 3 minutes'])”,180000);

International SEO Domains & Avg Session Duration
I have a couple questions 1) Is there any SEO value to forwarding multiple domains to the same domain? For instance, we own dozens of of the same domain name but with International extensions. I haven't seen much on this topic and assume that Google ignores such domain names (they don't really have much of any links to them). 2) Is there any research on whether time on site is declining across the web? I've noticed a trend over the years but I want to make sure this is a standard user behavior as people jump around quicker and search hop for information.

Why is Google Analytics reporting 20% fewer goals than Unique pageviews of same thank you page?
This is really puzzling me and my research has not thrown out the answer. I have always understood URL goals to be unique pageviews of the thank you page you are tracking. UPVs and goals should both only be counted once per session... Has anyone else seen this issue? Goals were not set up historically so I wanted to use unique pageviews of the thank you page for year on year comparisons, but 20% is a big difference! Background There are multiple pages to track so goal is set up using Regex There is no mistake in the goal set up (honest!) The goal URLs all match the unique pageview URLs, there are no rogue URLs There has been no change to the site or the tracking set up Data is not being sampled It's a lead gen site in an area where multiple enquiries within one visit would be very unusual Thanks in advance!

High bounce rate from Google Shopping
Hi Mozzers, I'm carrying out some analysis on our eCommerce site and the bounce rate from Google Shopping is well above the site average at 60%. Our shopping feed is submitted to Google every morning so we know that images and prices are up-to-date which would obviously cause a high bounce rate. Any ideas on what might cause this? Is it normal for Google Shopping to produce a high bounce rate? Cheers guys!

Why does this domain never pass 150 organic visits from Google?
Hello, The domain http://bit.ly/fwTEsT has been out there for one year, it has about half million indexed pages. We made a lot of changes that could affect SEO and I don't know if Google likes it but the one thing it's sure is that in one whole year the organic visits from Google never got pass 150 visits per day. We've got about 2000 PPC visits but organic don't go up. I'd like to know what our main errors would be so we can focus more on fixing them. Thank you, Alexandru.

Bounce Rates - How would you deal with this scenario?
Greetings! I actually don't have a definitive answer to this so wish to throw it out to the community for thoughts and feedback. I have a client who we shall call "Site 1", but they also have a job board, we shall call "Site 2". A product of their own success, they have a high bounce rate with visitors landing on Site 1, seeing a job they want to apply for and bouncing straight off to Site 2. The problem is that this is resulting in Google seeing some of these pages as having bounce rates of 80% to 100%, based on this formula: Bounce rate = total number of visits viewing only one page / total number of visits Now, I hate anything black hat or grey hat so wish to know how you would deal with this... If the results from Site 2 were displayed in a new framed page on Site 1, would this still be classed as a bounce? If when they click on a job on Site 1, they were taken to an intermediate page on Site 1 saying "Thank you, you are being redirected to your chosen job" for 5 seconds before being taken to Site 2, would this be classed as a bounce? Perhaps the job they wish to apply for 'pulled' from Site 2 and actually displayed in a new page on Site 1 would be a better way to go? I think that option 1 might work, sure that number 3 would but not so sure about number 2, but look forward to your comments and thoughts. Regards, Andy
