Sitelinks in non-brand based organic search results
-
Hi all,
I have a question for everyone. Sitelinks have been around for a while now & I've always seen them when the search is for a brand's name.
However, today, when looking at the rankings for one of the campaigns we manage, we noticed there were sitelinks in the number #1 & #2 positions in Google (Australia) for the search term "Dance Costumes".
Whilst both the companies have Dance Costumes in their title, so do all the other results & so I don't see why it warrants the sites to be relevant via their brand name.
Note: The results are organic results, not paid results (where you can add sitelinks).Firstly, has anyone seen this before (screenshot attached)?
And secondly, is there markup/schema that allows you to do this (none that I know of)? -
I've seen this before that they only show extensions to a URL in the first couple of listings. I think it has more to do with how Google wants to show the top results than with the authority they have. Although there probably will be some correlation between the two.

Thanks Martijn,
I put the question out on Google+ communities as well & it looks like that was the general consensus as well.
The only side I don't understand, is why it chose to show it only on the those first two listings & none of the others.
I'm guessing it's because the site & those individual pages are less authoritative in general.

Usually these are the pages that have the most internal authority next to the homepage. We see this in a couple of occasions for terms that are not related to our brand. They picked in our case the links that had the most internal links to it as they were linked site-wide.

Thanks for the response Oleg,
Great to see that there's other examples of these sitelinks out there on generic search phrases.
I do understand that you can only tell Google the sitelinks you don't want users to see, but is there any difference on these sitelinks, as to how Google determines to show them?

I think it's automatically chosen by Google. You can only tell Google which pages you'd prefer not to be sitelinks.

Geographical Results in Universal SERPS
Hi Moz Pros! I have been reading on the board for quite some time, despite all the insights you all share with us in the SEO world. I have a nut I can't crack and thought I would ask. Does any guru here know the factors google uses when they choose sites to add to GEO specific SERPS on a general query? Here is an example. "Car insurance companies" Also attached. https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf=ACYBGNRvHrdh6z6sNatu-Pgbh-tbgiiQLQ%3A1569462097607&ei=UReMXbPfJIfwtAX_77aYCQ&q=car+insurance+companies+&oq=car+insurance+companies+&gs_l=psy-ab.3..0i71l8.321.321..471...0.2..0.0.0.......0....1..gws-wiz.8MmdfVjHrt4&ved=0ahUKEwjzy8P2re3kAhUHOK0KHf-3DZMQ4dUDCAs&uact=5

Something unintelligible in google search results.
In the last month i see something that i can't explain, from nowhere the first search result for the keyword Name Necklace is an Etsy shop, (I attach an image). I try to find out why google gives this online shop the first position and i have no idea why is that. Please, any suggestions? mnbAIrY.png

Why is this page not being delivered for Google search result?
Hey folks, Figured I would try to get an experts insight on this. On google search result for BLACK TITANIUM RINGS + TITANIUM-JEWELRY.COM the page that I "think" should show up is this one: http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/black-titanium-rings.html However, it does not. Imho, this page is highly relevant. I used Rank Tracker here on seomoz.org and the page is not even in top 50 of search engine results for google. Our 'About Black Titanium Rings' page ranks #2 (http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/about-black-titanium.html) but the /black-titanium-rings.html page doesn't even rank. Any suggestions on what I could look at to figure out why this page is being penalized? We are not under a manual penalty (anymore!). Thanks! Ron

Non-www URL showing in Blog
Thanks to Sanket Patel in an earlier query I've now got non-www pages showing as www. pages on my www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk website. But the Blog which is part of the site posts and pages still show as non-www pages. For example: http://nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog/makadi-palace-hotel-makadi-bay/ I wonder if anyone has come upon the same problem and what the solution might be? Thanks, Colin

The Site: search and Flow of PageRank
It is my understanding that if I do a search for site:mydomain.com the results are like every other SERP in that the most authoritative pages are ranked higher. So obviously I would expect my homepage to be first (in most cases), then followed by main category pages, etc. My question is has anybody ever seen disturbing results when doing this (i.e. pages that should have no authority outranking main category pages)? Is this always an issue with site structure or can you think of other factors that may cause this?

Search result clicks for one of my posts down significantly
I started receiving a warning warning in google webmaster tools about 2 weeks ago that said "big traffic change for top url". On reading the message i saw "Search results clicks for http://goo.gl/EyhUJ have decreased significantly". When I search google using the keyword "sore breasts" for which that post used to rank at least number 2 on google, I dont see anything. The related post http://goo.gl/vP025 is still ranking well. Can anyone give me an idea of what might have happened? I am totally at sea. Thanks.

Alexa site title shows as "302 Found" on search result pages
If you search for the site "ixl.com" in Alexa, for some reason, it's showing the site as "302 Found" instead of showing the website name, IXL. If you drill into that, it shows the site as ixl.com, but underneath that, it says "302 Found" again. Every other site I search for seems to show the site's name properly. I have no idea where it's getting this "302 Found" from. Does anyone know how to fix this? Here's a link directly to the search results page: http://www.alexa.com/search?q=ixl.com
