Spammy Directories Using Title Meta-Tag For Link
-
I've been noticing a growing amount of spammy directories using my title Meta-Tag to create a link back to my site. Since my title uses competitive keywords, these external links on spammy directories look over optimized and I fear an algo penalty might get triggered. Should I be concerned and what can I do?
-
Disavowing the entire domain seems like the safest thing to do, because there may be other links that haven't caught my attention yet. If Google doesn't require the exact location, then I think this is what I will do.
-
If the domain is a known spam property or you feel that the entire domain adds little to no value, then go ahead and disavow the entire domain.
-
Do I disavow the entire domain, or just the url where the link exists?
-
Hi alrockn,
If you feel that these sites are in fact spam related and do not provide any value to the user, then I suggest getting proactive and disavowing those properties before any penalty happens.
I would be concerned, but not too much - use the disavow tool and you're website will be fine.

What user agent is used by SEOMOZ crawler?
We have a pretty tight robots.txt file in place to only allow the major search engines. I do not want to block SEOMOZ.ORG from being able to crawl the site so I want to make sure the user agent is open.

How are our competitors getting these inbound linking domains?
I'm currently managing SEO for my company's website, and I'm getting into link building for the first time. As part of the process, I'm using Open Site Explorer to see who's linking into our competitor sites, to get a better sense of what's available to us in our particular avenue of e-commerce. However, I'm finding that our competitors are getting inbound links from high-authority sites pretty far afield from selling jewelry - census.gov, parallels.com, warnerbros.com, and others. I try clicking through to these links, but each link starts a download of a file. I've seen .f4v, .7z, and .apk files listed as inbound links to our competitor. How is this happening? Again, I'm new to link building, so there may be a simple answer here, and if so I apologize for asking. However, this seems really strange to me, and a difficult situation to confront.
