Sending Domain Authority from Root www domain to *
-
Hello all
Some advice please.
Im working with a friend who has a website (obviously). Its based on wordpress and is accessible by the link http://exampledomain.com. The problem is he has some good links out there which are pointing at http://www.exampledomain.com.
As yet Im uncertain how he has setup his DNS, he maybe is doing a forward which would leave the DA back with the www subdomain. What is his best practice to inherit those links into his actual domain?
Thanks

Hi Darren,
Linda already made the best suggestions but as you really want to get those other links, please reach out to them and ask them to change the URL. That should solve it.

Even if you have a preferred domain, you can still have links to both. If you have set up your preferred domain correctly, it doesn't matter whether the links go to www or to not-www, all of the link juice (well, most of it anyway) will go to the preferred domain.
-
Thank you both for your responses, my interest is in the link juice transfer.
In MOZ Im seeing 4 linking root domains on none and 3 in www. Should 1 see 7 on none if the preferred domain is set in webmaster tools?
-
As well as LindaLV's advice (excellent) you can also set up your preferred domain in webmaster tools, you will need to add both www. and none to do this. Wordpress normally auto redirects the www.& none, a quick test of this would be to simply go to both www. and none www. see if it redirects.
If you've set up word press on e.g htttp:// you can go to settings>general and select the www. version but as i mentioned it should auto 301 in WP if not its easy to fix!

He should be redirecting one to the other via a 301 redirect (usually people choose the www version as the canonical one). If he is not doing this he will have other problems, like massive amounts of duplicate content. A 301 redirect will pass along most of the authority from the links, >90%.

Linking Root Domains www and non-www
I just ran our site through Open Site Explorer. If I run the non-www version I get 30 root domains, if I run www I get 177. Is it wise to try and contact those sites using the non-www version and ask them to update the links to www version? Will that make much of a difference?

Missing Inbound Linking Domains
For some reason, our websites seem to be missing a number of authoritative inbound linking domains which seems to be a primary driver in lowering our domain authority as compared to our competition. Does anyone have any feedback as to why this might not be populating or is there something additional we need to do to have these show up? If it doesn't show up in MOZ is it likely that Google might also not be seeing these as inbound link domains? Thanks as always MOZ Community!

How to get started with a brand new site and domain name and prioritize content creation?
Hi there. I just bought a Moz Pro membership with the goal to start with a new domain name and create a content channel. The domain name is completely fresh so it doesn't have any authority or trust associated with it. I did initial keyword research with the Google Keyword Tool for the niche I want to address and know what content I can get out. I would like to prioritize content creation based on what will rank easily in Google and then work my way up from there. Do you have ideas on how I could best prioritize these keywords to this? How can I identify the low hanging fruit for getting some incoming links to my website such that there is already some incoming link juice? (without using any black hat tricks) Any hints or tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks! PS: The website is in Europe where the blogosphere is really underdeveloped for the niche.

Building on Brand for a keyword heavy domain with bad backlink profile
The domain is keyword heavy think along the lines of "mountainbikes.com" and they are ranking ok for mountain bikes, however on inspection they have a LOT of poor quality back links and a lot of those links are anchor text phrases (and far too much of it!). A lot of people recommend building on brand in situations like this, however how would I go about doing this for a site without a branded domain name? In this case their is a company name but it's not the same as the domain name, would you simply build links using the company name "Uber Bikes" or use the domain www.mountainbikes.com. If the aim is just to build a more varied back link profile then I guess using both would be good? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Multiple same domain links on Open Site Explorer
In doing competitor link analysis on Open Site Explorer, I've noticed quite a few links coming from the same domain listed separately. This seems to be especially prevalent with Google directory listings. For example, I'll see a link to the site from google.hu/...., google.am/..., google.kz/..., etc. In some cases, it will be prefixed with an IP address, followed by the subfolder address. Correct me if I am wrong, but these seem to be all counting as separate root domains that are linking to the site. How is this done? Are directory submissions given to each country's google directory? Does an original DMoz listing get re-submitted to all of these? Just looking for some clarification on this and how it's accomplished. Thanks everyone!
