When I changes Template, why traffic goes down?
-
I've noticed that when I change my blog's template the traffic goes down dramatically, about of 40% decrease. I know that new themes can have some problems but I have tried this with 2 different themes. First try was with genesis framework(Paid one) and just in one day traffic went down and when I reverted the old theme, the traffic became normal.
Should I wait for 1 week to see what happens?
What could be the potential reason of this?
-
I'd try to get really specific on two things;
-
"traffic" - are you saying only Google traffic? All traffic?
-
if it IS google traffic, did you notice if Google has actually crawled and re-cached the new version on the website?
-
also, does traffic decrease evenly across all pages on the site? or is it limited to just certain pages or sections?
-
"changing themes" - are these theme changes only design / skin changes - or do they affect URLs, internal links, content (such as page titles/descriptions etc)
I think answering these questions really matters in terms of figuring out what happened. I think it's very unlikely for just a surface skin/design change to hurt traffic so much - there must be deeper things going on, and it's just a matter of figuring out what the specifics are.

If you are really carefull on links, content and theme quality the drop with be temporary. But complete structure change with different headings, changed internal link structure can really do harm on your site for a bit longer.
As long as gross kept the same only the theme changes, and you don't build of a lot of 404's you'll be fine within 1 or 2 weeks.
-
But What should be the plan for changing the theme? I'm not a dev, nor a designer and only use premium Wordpress themes for my blog.
-
Hammad if is normal for the traffic to drop when you made any significant change on the bog and changing the entire theme can be one of them. I have worked with different clients and in my understanding the drop can be controlled to minimum if you have a shift plan, time and you should have a clear idea that the theme you are uploading didn’t have any problem.
I believe you should be ready for it if you are changing the theme all you need is a perfect planning to make that traffic drop to minimum.
Hope this helps!

Display URL changed for Organic Regional Searches?
Hey. We currently have a US version of the site (/us) which is displaying in US Google Search. However the /us domain is also showing for our co.uk Google searches. Is there a way I can ensure the /us is only displayed for US searches? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated 🙂

To change or not to change site URL structure?
I am learning my way around SEO, having always used professionals for it in the past on previous businesses i have decided to do it myself and learn more about it. Now the dilemma i am up against is i recently changed some of my permalinks on quite a few main pages throughout the site. The site launched in April this year so we're quite new. The problem is since my last change i have not seen any increase...a decrease which in fact hasn't recovered at all. Having now analysed them in more depth and read up more on the whole subject of SEO, (which is endless) i have put together a complete new strategy; with this increased understanding of what i am doing (but by no means conclusive) i want to complete a full overhaul on all SEO (via Wordpress which i use along with YOAST SEO tools), ensuring i have all my keywords, permalinks and descriptions spot on throughout every page, post and picture. I spent a lot of time mapping these out, ensuring there is no Focus keyword duplication, and that the site is relatively flat in terms of its layout. What i am unsure about now is whether changing my permalinks again is a bad thing to do?

Could it permanently damage my rep going forward?
Should i just focus on my content and keywords/descriptions? I am at a loss as i don't want to do irreparable damage to our reputation. The site is still reasonable easy to manage so changing now is the best time to do it, but if changing the URLs is a waste of time then i may just forget that and just work on the keywords, descriptions and content. Advice is 'oh so welcome' 🙂0 -
Getting Google to see major changes?
I am making some big changes to my site based on Moz's advice. How can I get google to see all of them? I submitted them to Google Webmasters. Is that the best thing to do? How long until Google updates all my pages?

Keyword Placement in Page Title - will changing it make a big difference?
Hiya guys I've noticed since changing my Title of my forum from: Talk Nightlife | Nightlife and Clubbing forum for the UK to Talk Nightlife | Nightlife Forum and Clubbing Guide for the UK (current) ... That its jumped from 22nd to 10th in google for term "nightlife forum" Am wondering, because of the on site optimisation tool telling me I should put the keyword to the front to something like eg: Nightlife Forum | Talk Nightlife Clubbing Guide for the UK Will changing the Keyword and putting it to front of the Title make a big difference? Your thoughts please guys Cheers Luke

Traffic falling
Over the last couple of weeks the organic traffic on our site has fallen pretty significantly. With the latest update from SEOmoz it went down 25% this week. I know this can happen from time to time, but we have been pretty stable with our traffic for the last year or so for this particular site. We haven't spent a ton of time on it in the last month so the lack of fresh content could be a factor. I can't think of any reason we would be getting penalized. Is there even a way to tell if we are penalized?

Would it be bad to change the canonical URL to the most recent page that has duplicate content, or should we just 301 redirect to the new page?
Is it bad to change the canonical URL in the tag, meaning does it lose it's stats? If we add a new page that may have duplicate content, but we want that page to be indexed over the older pages, should we just change the canonical page or redirect from the original canonical page? Thanks so much! -Amy
