Hi
I would have to agree with Dana - and again if I have read your question correctly.
Your current site has been penalised and basically you want to move to a new url to rank highly but not lose brand awareness or direct visitors to your site. If this is what your asking then its not possible, Google will simple pass the penalty to the new url.
Here is the solution, but it requires hard work and will take time.
Resolve the penalty and boost your rankings, I am only guessing that you have been hit by Penguin as its just rolled, but if you have. Do a full link audit, work out which links are toxic and are causing you to drop rankings. After you have complied this list you have two options and it depends if you have a manual penalty or just been hit by Penguin.
Manual Penalty: you will need to contact all these web masters and try and get as many as the links removed as possible. Keep evidence that you have contacted these web masters, emails etc. Then the ones you haven't been able to get removed add to a disavow file and upload in WMT. Then go through the reconsideration request - at this stage you will need to show all the emails you have sent and a list of all the links you have got removed.
Been hit by Penguin: A lot easier (but will take longer to recover), once you have got you list of bad links, simply add them as a disavow file. Keep this disavow file as any future disavow files you do, you need to add to this original list. Now you just have to sit back and wait for Penguin to roll again and unfortunately we haven't been told yet when this will roll again and how frequently it will roll.
If it is the case you have been hit by Penguin, you need to do some white hat techniques of building links. If the bad links were done by you, then you might want to read this article: http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo/growing-popularity-and-links. If the links we're built by a previous SEO company / employee - make sure that the old tatics aren't used again. Sit down with the SEO agency and explain what you want. If its done by your current SEO agency, I would personally fire them, no agency in my opinion should be building bad links. Penguin has been out long enough for SEO agencies to have changed tactics of link building, but if you do want to stay with them, explain you want a different strategy to link building.
Basically 301 won't work in the long term, you will lose your direct customers and get the penalty passed anyway.

Hi! Can you clarify your question a little bit please? You said "dropped domain." What do you mean by that? It sounds like what I'm hearing you say is that you had an old domain that was dropped from Google, but you are concerned that actual visitors to that old domain are able to find your new domain, without inheriting the bad link profile that may ahve cause the old domain to get dropped.
Honestly, you may not be able to accomplish what you are wanting. But I need to know more first so that's why I asked for clarification. I'd be glad to help if possible.
Cheers,
Dana

301 or Keep 2 Chocolate Best Sellers SEO?
Hi All, So we have two best selling organic chocolates that are very similar. http://www.santabarbarachocolate.com/bulk-organic-dark-chocolate-72-without-soy-lecithin/ and http://www.santabarbarachocolate.com/bulk-organic-dark-chocolate-72-without-soy-lecithin/ Because we are a small company it would be ideal to offer only one of these chocolates due to the cost of making it from the raw cacao. This is the question: From a SEO page rank perspective, do we get better rank by 301 redirecting one chocolate to the other thereby generating more traffic through traffic consolidation to one chocolate. Or do we get better SEO rank by having two chocolates on the site that both get clicks with different content? Basically it is a question of divided forces. Thanks for your help, Jason

How to 301 redirect, without access to .htaccess and to a new domain
There are few ways to do this and I would like to ask other Mozzers if they have found the best way. We have a site .co.uk and are moving it back to .com. However we do not have any access to the site folders for .co.uk. (We have to move it anyway as our provider is withdrawing their service). We have built our URL 301 redirect file and it is ready to go, but how to impliment it? We can repoint .co.uk to another site, and then redirect all traffic for each URL but this is quite messy, or just forget trying to 301 each page and just rediect the whole site.

the .com has more authority already, but we ready do not want to frustrate visitors who are using a link to reach a product, only to find they hit our homepage and not the product. Your thoughts would be very welcome or other ideas Bruce0 -
To redirect or not to redirect...That is the question
We have old product data that is being updated (approx 30k sku's). Most of the old pages have been indexed and drive the majority of our online sales. But, the updated products have different titles, H1's, etc and have been re-formatted for the better in terms of usability. So, should we redirect thousands of pages to the new pages? Will Google be ok with that?...or should we reformat the current url's with the new data? And, if we reformat current url's with new data...the fear is that the on-page elements that the pages are being pick up for will get wiped out, (be it the H1 in some cases or the title or alt tag for another, etc) because it's simply too much to retain them during the import. 301 Redirects From a URL without Keyphrases to one With Keyphrases
I have a client that sells services. Each service offered currently has a URL structure like this: www.companyname.com/product/asp$view-id-page3022-item-24 These pages are pretty old, and I would love to have a more user-friendly URL like this: www.companyname.com/product/purple-swatch-watch If I rename the URL and do a 301 redirect, what impact will that have on search? Ideally, this page will be optimized for "purple swatch watch", but the current URL structure is so... well, you know. My apologies if this has been answered before. I tried looking through archived of 301 issues, but lost hope after my first 10 or so attempts at answered didn't help this specific issue.

Losing Page Rank after 301 redirect from http to www
Hi Guys I have site-wide redirected all http// to www and all the category pages lost their page ranks (except home page). I would like to know if this is normal and is it one of the possible causes in losing keyword ranking?

301 rediects - weird characters
Hi, Just cleaning up some 404 errors in my site in GWT and noticed a couple of external links pointing at me that are wrong. Basically they are from a couple of DIY forum sites (I've not put these links in place myself they are 100% natural) and it appears that the owners of the forums amend the links (inserting characters into link) so they are not quite right. How would I go about redirecting the following - www.example.co.uk/blueberry_pie.htm Whatever I try doesn't work and I always end up with a 404! Cheers

Redirect a blog category page to the homepage?
Hi folks Following Penguin 1.1, I have a client site at number 5 for their primary keyword. (was creeping up page 2 with whitehat link building and tight on-site SEO.) However now the page ranking at No. 5 is for a blog category archive. What do people think the quickest / safest way to get this ranking directed back to the homepage is? Many thanks Simon

Will adding affiliate links negatively affect my SEO?
I'm thinking of signing up to a couple of affiliate programs related to my industry. Will adding affiliate links at the bottom of articles for example negatively affect my seo? I intend to have lots of useful content on my site and not just affililate links.
