Using both .co.uk and .com
-
Hello a client has launched a website with both the .com and .co.uk
The content is identical. I understand that you should add rel="alternate" hreflang="x" to the code. However, will there be a problem with the identical content? It would be hard to localise the content to one country. I understand why the client has got both domains, particularly the UK one but the actual content is not specific to one country. It is written for English speaking customers really.
Also what about links? In this case do you need to build two sets of links to make them both rank?
Thanks for any help.

They are two different sites and entities, hence no link to .com will have an influence to the .co.uk domain.
-
Thanks again. In terms of work and time with links, it looks like two sites - .co,uk and the .com mean twice the amount of work? or if links are built for the .co.uk site they will have an influence on the .com site too? Is this the case or are they treated as separate entitles? Sorry for the questions. T

Links can help with geotargeting. Getting UK links sends a strong localization signal. Just remember to build organic.
-
I would appreciate any help with the question about link building. If there are only links pointing to the .co.uk only is that a problem for the .com version? What has anyone else done in these circumstances?
Thanks very much.

Thanks Highland. Th evideo makes sense.
What about links? Do we need to build links to both domains?
-
This is actually the preferred method to do it. Duplicate content is normally a problem but, between domain.com and domain.cctld (.co.uk in your case) it's not a problem. Google recognizes that ccTLDs exist to send localization signals and it should rank your ccTLD better for google.co.uk than your .com
Matt Cutts talked about this a while back.
You do not need a language declaration unless they are different (which I don't think UK qualifies vs a standard English site)

We switched the domain from www.blog.domain.com to domain.com/blog.
We switched the domain from www.blog.domain.com to domain.com/blog. This was done with the purpose of gaining backlinks to our main website as well along with to our blog. This set us very low in organic traffic and not to mention, lost the backlinks. For anything, they are being redirected to 301 code. Kindly suggest changes to bring back all the traffic.

Example.com for english and example.es for spain. Will .com still rank for english querys?
Hello,Due to various technical questions we have decided to implement our multi-language support in a way that example.com servers the English search query's and example.es Spanish. Now there is big volume for English query's in Spain serp. If i have example.es domain for Spain and use language tags will searchers find my .com still for their English terms or automatically only .es will be served for google.es?We would just specify hreflang=EN for the example.com and es for the example.esThank you,

Is my website indexed correctly in Google - www.couponshop.co.uk
Our website www.couponshop.co.uk has just had a relaunch after a change of direction.
Technical SEO | | LaurenGT
A lot of the pages were redirected. When I checked the indexing of the website on Google, I put site:couponshop.co.uk and only two pages come up, but when I put site:www.couponshop.co.uk they all show up.
Is this correct or are we doing something wrong?0 -
Half of my site is private for members only, should I use the Nofollow on these pages?
I'm trying to increase more traffic to my website. However half of my website is for members only and you have to be logged in to see content on those pages. I'm confused on whether I should use "nofollow" on these pages or not.

Should we re-use our old re-directed domain for a new wesbite ?
Hi One our clients has an old domain that has been redirected to another website of his. Now he is asking us to build a new website for that domain and direct it back. This is new website will be very relative to it's own old content and where it has been re-directed recently. I guess the only benefit of this would be taking advantage of the age of this domain. Do you recommend doing that or getting him a new domain ?

Using Drupal to Author Websites across 2 Domains
I am new to Drupal and as an organization we are considering using it to author both our corporate site and our blog. In the future we'd like our blog to live at a separate domain and I understand Drupal is capable of publishing across 2 domains. Does anyone know of any SEO implications to this type of infrastructure set up? Are there specific things to be mindful of when setting up the Drupal CMS across 2 domains? thanks for the assistance!

Is there any issue with using the same structured data property multiple times on the same page?
Im working on implementing structured data properties into my product detail pages. (http://schema.org/Book) My site sells books and many books have both a 13 digit ISBN # and a 10 Digit ISBN. Should I apply the itemprop "isbn" to both of them or just the one with higher search volume? Some books also have multiple authors, how should I handle that?
