When will all of Google Maps be the same again?
-
As many of you are aware that the pigeon update was only applied to the new Google maps resulting in very different search results for Google local business. When you search for a business on old Google maps then you get totally different results vs the new Google maps. Some businesses totally disappeared completely from the search results. I have done my research and found out that it's because the new Algo was only applied to the new maps. Also new algo does not apply to other countries.
Well the reason I posted this topic is because I have noticed that all the new Google Business listings I am verifying for my clients are all being put under the old Google maps and not the new ones. They come up fine when searching from old maps but not the new ones. I understand Google has not rolled out the pigeon on all data centers but why? Will Google eventually roll out the update to old maps? Since Google is adding businesses to old google maps then what's the point of even adding new listings?

Hi BajaSEO,
I would recommend that you start here: http://moz.com/blog/pigeon-advice-from-local-seos
Pay particular attention to Linda Buquet's comments and then follow them here:
I believe this is what you are asking about, and I suggest you read that whole thread on Linda's forum. It's 5 or so pages long, but I recommend you follow through on the whole thing. It's the best conversation I have seen regarding the differences between the classic and new Google Maps and reading it should at least confirm what you are experiencing. The results are in flux, likely due to rotating data centers, but as to when this would change, I'm afraid only Google can say.

Hi Matt-Antonio - if you re-read the original question, BajaSEO is asking about pigeon, not penguin. A whole different animal. Maybe you have some pigeon-related experience to share?

There are so many problems with the original question I'm not even sure I know how to start to respond. I'll give it a go.
I think you need to do some more research. First, Penguin wasn't just for Maps results. We had a LOT of big changes for clients in the organic results. You also said that the "new algo does not apply to other countries." - I'm unsure where you got this info but it's 100% incorrect.
We have built new maps in the last few weeks that rank almost immediately. If a client needs a map, build it. Then rank it.

Google indexing tags help
Hey everyone, So yesterday someone pointed out to me that Google is indexing tags and that will likely hurt search engine results. I just did a "site:thetechblock.com" and I notice that tags are still being pulled. http://d.pr/i/WmE6 Today, I went into my Yoast settings and checked "noindex, follow" tags in the Taxomomies settings. I just want to make sure what I'm doing is right. http://d.pr/i/zmbd Thanks guys

Image map crawlability
Hey Mozzer's, I'm reviewing a moving site which utilizes an image map for their service areas. As I'm new to image mapping how should I diagnose them for crawlability, effectiveness, code (which appears correct using HTML & alt text tag), what should I be looking for, etc? I'm trying to determine the effectiveness of the image map links compared to including some regular lateral links on the page. Page: http://bit.ly/KOOtgN Thanks in advance for all advice and insights.

Google places address missing
I have a google places acct that used to rank fairly well. Then i changed addresses and updated the places account. It stopped ranking and whats worse is that the address will not show up in the listing. I have gone back in and edited it, verified it, done everything, but the address does not show on the places page or google results. It shows the city but not the actual address. Ideas?

Google Places and Name Change
Hello - I have a client who is a realtor and changed agencies. I edited their Google Places entry and the new name of their agency and address are showing - but so is their old listing. The agency they left is now trying to sue them for showing up in a number one position with Google Places under their agency name. Is this an indexing issue with Google? Their name shows up under both agency names. The corrected one shows most often, but the old one is still popping up on occasion. Thanks,

Google Quality Algorithm Update
I'm curious what correlations or impacting variables SEO professionals have found that have increased or decreased ranking with the most recent algorithm change. It appears that many innocent sites have fallen victim, especially larger sites. It also appears that Google is maintaining that specific sites were not targeted... Meaning there must be proven characteristics.
