What are the most common reasons for a website being slow to load
-
I've been advised that too many requests are being sent (presumably to the server?), how can I reduce these and were else should I look to increase speed?
-
Hi there,
There are many reasons a website may be slow, below are some of them:
- A huge spike in Additional Traffic.
- A Dynamic Site without caching.
- Extremely Large or non-optimized graphics.
- Extremely Large or non-optimized database.
- Large amount of calls to external websites (twitter, facebook, youtube, etc...)
- Connectivity issues
Hope it helps you

Your question is somewhat ambiguous. "Too many requests" could mean that your website's design is pulling in a lot of resources and this, particularly with Javascript, can cause load speed issues. If it is related to this you can look to merging some of your Javascript files, loading Javascript asynchronously where advisable, look at reducing CSS bloat (stripping unused rules, etc).
"Too many requests" could also mean that the server is suffering under load. If it is this latter meaning reducing any design-related resource loading issues may actually help somewhat but the site will still not reach reasonable speeds. To resolve this you'll need to look at reducing load on the server. This can be accomplished by making use of caches where appropriate.
Use the PageSpeed extension in Chrome or Firefox to diagnose some of the problems that might be affecting your site. If you suspect server load and if you have SSH access assuming it is a *nix machine try the "uptime" utility and have a look at the load averages.

Hi,
What type of website are you running i.e static html, php based such as Wordpress etc?
Cheers

Hi,
This is a fairly old article, but should have some good, relevant tips in nonetheless. http://moz.com/blog/15-tips-to-speed-up-your-website.
You can also see speed reports in analytics - It's under the 'behaviour' menu. I think it tells you how to fix specific elements that are taking a long time to load.
Hope this helps!

Migrating login page from website: SEO impact
Our current login page looks like www.website.com/log-in/. We are planning to migrate it to a sub directory login.website.com. For years, our login page is the top landing with highest visits after homepage. If we migrate this now, are we going to loose traffic and drop in rankings? Thanks

Seperating Different Parts Of The Website
Hi There, I have a client with two parts to his business both for different types of customer with different language and copy needed. At the moment they have one website and I am trying to figure out the most search engine friendly way to present these different types. So for example if a client came in looking for service A, he would see the home page for service A and if he came in looking for service B he would come across the home page for service B. I know I could have seperate service pages for each service he provides, but I think it would be off putting to come to a home page of a site and see completely unrelated services on one page. I hope I am explaining myself here. As far as I can see the options are:- subdomains for servicea.examplesite.com, serviceb.examplesite.com and a split page (see attachement) where you click which you are interested in (don't like this idea) seperate websites a home page which shows all the services (too confusing) Any advice would be most grateful. Multiple websites for different service areas/business functions?
I'm wondering what the implications are for having multiple domains for different service areas of a company? I realize having multiple domains for one company can be troublesome because of the possibility of duplicate content, keyword cannibalization, and linkbuilding to multiple domains. But when the domains are for very different service offerings/unique business functions that each serve their own purpose (and have different positionings), is there a downside to having more than one domain? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

SEO strategy for UK / US websites
Hi, We currently have a UK-focused site on www.palmatin.com ; We're now targeting the North American market as well, but the contents of the site need to be different from UK. One option was to create another domain for the NA market but I assume it would be easier to rank with palmatin.com though. What would you suggest to do, if a company is targeting two different countries in the same language? thanks, jaan

Would you consider these website designs an upgrade?
Hello everyone, I've asked a few questions in here regarding website design, etc. So first I want to thank you guys for the responses, and second I want to apologize I hope I am not boring you guys. I just feel like this is a forum of qualified people and I value your opinions greatly. Now to my question, I am considering a redesign as we are not happy with our current site located http://www.studentdebtrelief.us/. We think it feels outdated, not structured well, no good call to actions, ten different fonts, blurry images, does have good integration with social media, boring and bland news page, etc. I just wanted some opinions on these other sites that were designed by the fellow we are considering hiring. I've gotten some feedback from a friend that he doesn't think they would be an upgrade from our current site, which I totally disagree with. Though I am the first to admit design/creativity is not my strong suit, so I don't value my own opinion on this very much either, lol. I am hoping I can get some insight from you guys here. Do you think the designs below are of higher quality than our current site? Would you be more inclined to continue reading these sites than our own? Is there one in particular you think is the best? http://www.jayhafling.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/archive.jpg http://www.jayhafling.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/zazachat.jpg http://www.jayhafling.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/jetpeppers3.jpg http://www.jayhafling.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/pbs_9001.png http://www.jayhafling.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/fidgetfeed.png http://www.jayhafling.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/haute.jpg http://www.jayhafling.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/worketc-732x1362.jpg Thanks for the help

Best way to handle Spanish/English WEBSITE
Hey guys, How are you doing? I have a website (www.aceromart.com ) in which the primary language is Spanish. The company is oriented toward the Mexican Audience. However, recently we are dealing with many U.S companies. Also, we want to be included in the Yahoo Directory and several other directories which demand a U.S version of the website. So i want to have a U.S version of the website. My ecommerce is based in the NETWORK Solutions platform and has around 1,000 products and pages. What is the best way to include an English version of the website. Ive seen some pages using the Google traslate tool, which only traslates the text. Hope to hear some of your ideas, Regards,

Hom much does getting a mobile website improve the "mobile ranking"?
There's been speculation about Google totally not ranking sites that are not mobile, but as far as I can see many sites rank THE SAME on mobile devices as on regular stationary PCs/lap-tops. I had hoped for a radically improved ranking once a mobile site was built. Or is it just that it takes a TON of time for it to go through and then it gets better or is it like with regular sites that a new mobile site on a sub-domain is parked in some form of mobile-sand-box? Also, does putting a mobile site on a ranking domain, as subdomain help, e.g. m.testingsite.com instead of testingsite.mobi ? Thanks.

What is Best Platform to Build Website - SEO in mind
Hello... I am going to be creating two new websites shortly that will need to be built with SEO in mind. These will not be e-commerce sites, but instead will be informational with a couple pages of content on each. One will be used to get people to input their contact info and that info will be sent to our call center where we will call them back from. The other site will be heavily used for graphics, but still needs to have room for content (seo purposes)... Can you guys please recommend what platform i should have these sites written on (and please remember I need to do this on whatever is the most SEO-Friendly)... Thanks
