Footer Content
-
We currently have footer content contained in a single php include file and is included in every page and contains the following:
-
Most recent 3 tweets from our twitter feed
-
Snippets of our 3 most recent blogs posts
-
navigation links to our main pages (essentially the same as our main navigation in the header)
Is this good/bad?

Yeah, I also think there is an element in the thought process of "well every other site puts links, newsletters etc in the footer" so why shouldn't we, however reading some other threads on footer links elsewhere it would seem the concensus is "are people actually clicking on the links" in the footer anyway and if not, why have them.
-
No problem Neil - Just focus on the end user and the decisions should be easy to make in regards the footer etc.
I mentioned page load time issues with Twitter because of experience I've had. It's always been 3rd party content which has resulted in site speed issues.
Social media feeds/widgets are just sometimes not worth the issues they can cause.

Thanks again Mark, good point about Twitter load times something I had overlooked. I think we just need to more creative about footer elements perhaps, maybe we are over thinking that area of the website!
-
I think you need to look at it from two perspectives.
Is it really needed? Does every page of the site really need this content displayed on it? I would be hesitant about recommending you putting all these things into the footer of every page.
Secondly, Twitter feeds can slow page load time. This will impact on the bounce rate of your site and since site speed can impact ranking, you really gotta ask yourself again about the need for this on every page.
A couple of footer navigational links are fine. Just avoid stuffing the footer with Twitter, newsletter, navigational and blog post links.

Thanks for your response Mark, I should have mentioned that the is still in development so not a lot to see. We are having a review of the design and the footer came into question with regards to SEO concerns.
We are thinking now about replacing the footer nav links with a newsletter signup box in that area plus a link to the site's sitemap.
My main point for discussion is really around the repeated elements of the footer such as the tweets and blog snippets.
From your comments are you saying this repeated content should be ok?
-
Can you offer a link to your website Neil so we can see whether the use of links in the footer is excessive?
If the content in the footer can be justified for navigational purposes from Google's perspective, then you should be fine.

Dynamic links & duplicate content
Hi there, I am putting a proposal together for a client whose website has been optimised to include many dynamic links and so there are many pages with duplicate content: only the page title, h1 and URL is different. My client thinks this isn't an issue. What is the current consensus on this? Many thanks in advance.

My site is currently in the mist of a redesign and I’d like us to compile some recommendations on the length of copy for a page to rank well but can't seem to find any up to date articles on this.Does anyone have any suggestions, comments, or feedback?Thank you.

Duplicate content errors
I have multiple duplicate content errors in my crawl diagnostics. The problem is though that i already took care of these problems with the canonical tag but MOZ keeps saying there is a problem. For example this page http://www.letspump.dk/produkter/56-aminosyre/ has a canonical tag, but moz still says it has an error. Why is that?

Duplicate Content - Category Pages 2+
I have my Wordpress SEO settings to deindex past page 1 of each category. However, Google Webmasters is selling me I have 210 pages with duplicate title tags. My site tanked last weekend and I don't know if it was Google Panda or what. I have been getting some fantastic backlinks and it seems like they just decided to disregard all of them as I am completely off the SERPs. Is this duplicate content a contributing factor? How can I get google to deindex my category pages past page 1? (I do need the first page to index as that does bring me organic traffic) Thanks.

Guest vs Logged In Content
Hi Mozzers I have a client that recently launched a q&a and he has the answers hidden by registering for free you can see the answers. It's a free community. Now the question comes: Google will not get the entire page only the question content which I think is bad. What option would solve the issue. Have thought about making the answers hidden through css... so if you're a guest the answers are display:none . But it has to be a better option than dirty things like this 🙂

Checking Duplicate Content
Hi there, We are migrating to a new website, which we are writing lots of new content for the new website. The new website is hosted on a development site which is password protected and so on so that it cannot be indexed. What i would like to know is, how do i check for duplicate content issues out there on the world wide web with the dev site being password protected? Hope this makes sense. Kind Regards,
