Crawlers reporting upper case letter url versions although these have been 301'd to lower case !?
-
Hi
I have a client e-com site who's dev platform is on a windows server
Their product pages have been auto-named after the product title, with the first letter in each word being upper case, which has hence translated to the URL having upper cases instances too.
I asked them to set up 301 redirects for all url's that had upper case instances to lower case versions, which they say they have done.
However I'm still seeing url's with upper case instances showing up in webmaster tools and moz crawl reports but when I copy & paste them into a browser they do redirect to, & resolve in, the lower case version. Its also upper case versions reported in the Google cache!
So how come webmaster tools & Moz etc are reporting the upper case versions, surely if redirected it should be the lower case versions
All Best
Dan

thanks again for your help pointing me in right direction

Awesome, I hope it fixes your problem.

Have worked out how to check in sitemaps and can see that there are upper case urls being referenced so have instructed dev to force lower case and update sitemap to dynamic

A few months ago
Good point I'll ask , should that be a quick task for a dev to carry out ?
Also is it something i can verify myself ? (i have looked in GWT but cant see any urls listed only the sitmap itself)
Cheers Hutch

How long ago did they make the updates? Did you also update your sitemap to no longer have uppercase versions in it?

301 and rel=canonical AGAINNNN
Trying to understand rel=canonical if you have proper 301 redirects (redirects to the canonical URl) for example when migrating from a HTTP to HTTPS environment why would you also opt to add a rel=cannonical tag on the same pages. What effect does this have on SERP rankings or is it ok to have 301 redirects and rel=canonicalon the same page? Anyone?

If links have been disavowed, do they still show in crawl reports?
I have a new client who says they have disavowed all their bad links, but I still see a bunch of spammy backlinks in my external links report. I understand that disavow does not mean links are actually removed so will they continue to show in Google Webmaster Tools and in my Moz reports? If so, how do I know which ones have been disavowed and which have not? Regards, Dino

Why is the weekly rankings report often inaccurate?
Does anybody else notice that the Moz weekly rankings report are often inaccurate? Many times it says a keyword (or many keywords) fell out of the top 50, although when I manually check the keyword in a Google search, it still shows that those keywords are ranking in the top 10. I've done these manual searches with personalized search settings turned off, as well as from a completely unbiased computer. Why is this happening? Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you!

Something I'm missing META Description
When using the SEOMoz on page analysis for "luxury marquee hire" on www.katalysticevents.com it's telling me I have no meta description but my source code includes the following: Line 94 <meta property="<a class="attribute-value">og:description</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">Katalystic Events - Luxury Marquee Hire</a>" /> Being a real newbie am I missing something here? I've included the info uploaded form my wordpress CMS, why is SEOmoz not picking this meta description up?

No internal links showing up in OpenSiteExplorer report
Hi there A simple one. I was just looking at our site in opensiteexplorer and notice that it says we have no internal links at all: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s244/sh/dd8cc88f-fee4-4ba2-8ec0-f3f8d5c408db/8d3fc3d2aa6fc9d5406051bc91731402 Rather odd as we do. Is this a bug with OSE that anyone knows about or something else? Any ideas / thoughts gratefully received.

Pro Dashboard Rankings Report not accurate for the UK?
We rank in the top 5 consistently for our keywords on www.google.co.uk However, the ranking report (set to Google UK) shows that we don't appear in the top 50. When looking in more detail at the keyword in question, it shows the top ranking sites to be all US sites with .com domains that don't rank at all on google.co.uk. Can anyone shed some light on this or tell me if there is any way of getting accurate ranking reports via SEOmoz tools for UK sites, so I don't have to do it manually? Thanks in advance
