Htaccess mod rewrite from server address
-
Hi there,
I'm not massively experienced with creating mod rewrite rules and I'm worried I've got this wrong as its slightly different to what I'm used to.
The web dev and content creators were working on http://5.10.105.45/~isea/ to create content.
I want to redirect all URL's to www.iseasurfwear.co.uk. This is what I've written
//Rewrite to www
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/[nc]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.iseasurfwear.co.uk/$1 [r=301,nc]Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
-
Try
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.NewDomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]Or
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} /~isea/$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.NewDomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]** (edit) Make sure your sever has Mod Rewrite Enabled*

Agreed, but for now I just want to cover the issue so we can move forward. Slight update to my code. This rewrites the homepage, but doesn't seem to be rewriting anything else. Any tips?
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/ [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [r=301,nc] -
If you're moving from a dev environment to live, it's not redirects that you need. You need to update the references in the code of the template and in the content areas that your developers didn't clean up when moving the site to live. Doing rewrites will only cover the issue, but the incorrect links will still be there.

Just tested. It doesn't work. Any help?

Our clients Magento 2 site has lots of obsolete categories. Advice on SEO best practice for setting server level redirects so I can delete them?
Our client's Magento website has been running for at least a decade, so has a lot of old legacy categories for Brands they no longer carry. We're looking to trim down the amount of unnecessary URL Redirects in Magento, so my question is: Is there a way that is SEO efficient to setup permanent redirects at a server level (nginx) that Google will crawl to allow us at some point to delete the categories and Magento URL Redirects? If this is a good practice can you at some point then delete the server redirects as google has marked them as permanent?

Does having a sub-domain on a different server affect SEO?
I'm working with a company that has a hard-coded website on the root domain, and then a WordPress blog on a subdomain on a separate server. We're planning on implementing a hub and spoke model for their content, hosting the main hubs on the root domain and the linked articles on the blog. Is having the blog on a different server going to hinder our SEO efforts?

Google Search Console 'Change of Address' Just 301s on source domain?
Hi all. New here, so please be gentle. 🙂 I've developed a new site, where my client also wanted to rebrand from .co.nz to .nz On the source (co.nz) domain, I've setup a load of 301 redirects to the relevant new page on the new domain (the URL structure is changing as well).

E.G. On the old domain: https://www.mysite.co.nz/myonlinestore/t-shirt.html
In the HTACCESS on the old/source domain, I've setup 301's (using RewriteRule).
So that when **https://www.mysite.co.nz/**myonlinestore/t-shirt.html is accessed, it does a 301 to;
https://mysite.nz/shop/clothes/t-shirt All these 301's are working fine. I've checked in dev tools and a 301 is being returned. My question is, is having the 301's just on the source domain only enough, in regards to starting a 'Change of Address' in Google's Search Console? Their wording indicates it's enough but I'm concerned, maybe I also need redirects on the target domain as well? I.E. Does the Search Console Change of Address process work this way?
It looks at the source domain URL (that's already in Google's index), sees the 301 then updates the index (and hopefully pass the link juice) to the new URL. Also, I've setup both source and target Search Console properties as Domain Properties. Does that mean I no longer need to specify that the source and target properties are HTTP or HTTPS? I couldn't see that option when I created the properties. Thanks!0 -

Lowercase Rewrite in web.config. Strange behavior.
So I am trying to implement a lower case rule in my rewrite section and I am using the same snippet below that can be found all over the web. The lower casing of my url works fine but it adds my domain name into the URL for reasons I can't explain. so this www.SomeSite.com/Upper.aspx become www.somesite.com/somesite/upper.aspx I removed all other rewrite rules but this one and still it happens. Has anyone seen this? My server is IIS 7 <match url="[A-Z]" ignorecase="false"></match> <action type="Redirect" url="{ToLower:{URL}}"></action>

Remove a directory using htaccess
Hi, Can someone tell me if there's a way using htaccess to say that everything in a particular directory, let's call it "A", is gone (http 410 code)? i.e. all the links should be de-indexed? Right now, I'm using the robots file to deny access. I'm not sure if it's the right thing to do since Google webmaster tools is showing me the link as indexed still and a 403 error code. Thanks.
