HELP! Google is penalizing me and I can't figure out why.
-
I've come to the conclusion Google is definitely penalizing me for the keword "sensaphone" and I cannot figure out why. I've checked back links etc. and I don't see anything that would raise a flag. We rate very well in Bing etc. for the same keyword, but in Google SERP's will be on the 3rd or later page. Our domain is - www.absoluteautomation.com - any ideas?

We have had two massive clients (one well-known real estate company, one international brand) both manually penalised for these type of links so I would say you should probably start working them out of existence before you get penalised as well. (If I had been a Google reviewer instead of an SEO guy helping me out, you'd have a penalty. All it takes is the wrong set of eyes on the site.)
As far as your below question re: historic link profile, it's hard to say. You never know what Google sees, when they first saw it and how much they value it. I believe links get less valuable over time so to some extent it's not the be-all, end-all but if those links have been only just crawled in the last few months even if they were created 10 years ago, they may be just as valuable as one created today.
-
Also, how important is the "historical" link profile? When I check my current link profile, it's still not great. But not nearly as bad the historical profile shows (I don't think). Thanks again!
-
Doh. We still rank well with most of our keywords, I'm wondering if we're on borrowed time then. Do you think we would be better off removing any incoming links from domains within our "link network"?
-
I don't mean to be obvious about this but yeah, your link profile has issues, starting with your own link network:

According to Majestic Historic links your backlink profile is a disaster. They show over 90,000 links from nearly 2000 different domains. The site has been online for 15 years so I'm sure that a) there are worse links that have not been picked up and b) it's had old school 2002 SEO.
To be honest, you have a 15+ year old site and it shows. The backlink profile is a disaster and your info has been copied around the web from pretty much every page of your site. Put the two together and yeah, you wouldn't/shouldn't rank very highly with the current situation.
Hope the analysis helps some! It's going to be quite a lot of work to get you where you want to be from where you are today.

Just because you rate well on Bing and not Google does not mean you are being penalized. Bing uses a less sophisticated algorithm compared to Google so different tactics (older ones) can rank you higher on Bing. Just keep doing the right thing with content creation and adding value to your site that people who use the word "sensaphone" in a search will find useful.

Reporting a Link Scheme to Google
Hi Mozzers, Two questions...
Link Building | | FDAitsupport
There is a negative article showing up in the SERPS for my boss name which we've been doing some rep management to get rid of. Well, someone started building links to that property recently, and it has pushed the result to the #2 spot. I did some research, and the property has never had a single link pointed to it until recently. There are 7 referring domains, all of which use the same theme, and have the same author for each article. Each property has over 1,000 articles in not even 2 years. All articles are based around the same topic. The property they are promoting negatively went from 0 backlinks to 55 in under 2 months. My Question is, is it okay to report this to Google? It seems like a cut and dry example of a link scheme. Second question, I have recently seen an increase of spammy links showing up in ahrefs. These links were likely built by a predecessor of mine as far back as 2010. I had been letting them fall off naturally, but now they are coming back (around the same time the above mentioned link scheme began). Do you think someone is re-indexing my links as a sort of attack? Or is it possible Google is re-indexing them? I'm going to contact the webmasters where I can, but seriously considering using disavow tool. My rankings started dropping when the links started getting indexed. And continue to drop. Negative SEO, or Googles recent "Quality Update"? Thanks for any and all input. Ryan0 -

Can 302's Negate Spam Link Profile?
To make a long story short, the previous SEO company we hired spammed us on LOTS of crappy links, many of which are still indexed. We're currently in the act of removing these links before we receive a manual spam penalty/notification + building new, stronger links to balance out our profile. While most of these garbage links were sent to our homepage, many are linking our Services page (and a bunch to our .com/sitemap.html for some reason, lol). Now we're in the midst of updating our entire website and the permalinks are going to change. While I'd normally 301 our old links to the new ones, Id rather not bring the horrible link profile with it if at all possible. Would a simple 302 redirect effectively dodge the bad juju from these spam links to our Services page since they pass 0 juice? Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Why aren't my blog links counting?
In our blog posts, we frequently include links to our product pages on our official site. However, the blog root domain is not showing up on Open Site Explorer for any of these product pages. In other words, why isn't Google counting our blog as a unique root domain? If it helps, here is the link to the blog: http://jampaper.wordpress.com/ Thanks for your help!

When does Google Webmaster update your links to site??
Hi everyone We removed a load of links from a site over 2 months ago but they still show in Google webmaster tools. I understand Google will not be reading this links as they were removed so long ago. However I just was interested when Google might update these as not showing as linking to us anymore. I like to try and keep things tidy and its a bit frustrating it would be good to be 100% sure what Google is counting at any given time. Cheers James

Regarding Google Reconsideration
Hi Webmaster, Our website recent affected after the panda update. We got the mail from Google webmaster tools regarding the unnatural backlinks for our website. Due do this update we have edited most of the backlinks with natural way. Our question is we had submitted more free directories, from free directories we are getting more backlinks, like from a single domain we are getting more than 50+links, those are coming from the tags pages, also those are one way links, so we can’t edit that. Is it good for the website? After that edit we had sent couple of Google reconsideration report. But we got the reply like still you have the bad neighborhood links. Previously it was ranking well before the Google panda update. Could you please help me? Thanks

Are my affiliates helping or harming me?
I have a very strong affiliate network. Currently all my affiliate links go to a subdomain with a 301 redirect to my site. I have somewhat of a linking profile besides affiliates, but it is not as strong as the affiliate site. Are my affiliates enhancing my linking profile and helping me? Or Does it look to Google like I am benefiting from "paid links" and they would prefer I add NOFOLLOW or a 302 to my affiliate links? Thanks for your help!

Outbound links and their pro's and con's
So I was wondering if there was a general consensis regarding the amount of outbound links you have coming from your domain to other domains and if there is a correlation between the more you have going out, the more (for want of a better word) damage you can do to your domain. EG: is a site with good domain authority better to keep the short leash on handing out links to external sites? Does this make the link juice from the site more valuable?
