My website's pages are not being indexed correctly
-
Hi,
One of our websites, which is actually a price comparison engine, facing indexing problem at Google.
When we check “site:mywebsite.com “, there are lots of pages indexed which are not from mywebsite.com but from merchants websites. The index result page also shows merchant’s page title. In some cases the title is from merchant’s site but when the given link is accessed it points to mywebsite.com/index. Also the cache displays the merchant’s product page as the last indexed version rather than showing ours.
The mywebsite.com has quite few Merchants that send us their product feed. Those products are listed on comparison page with prices. The merchant’s links on comparison page are all no-follow links but some of the (not all) merchant’s product pages are indexed against mywebsite.com as mentioned above instead of product comparison page of mywebsite.com
How can we fix the issue?
Thanks!

Yeah i was thinking the same....
The interesting thing is we've removed the redirect page a week ago and replaced it with javascript redirect code. is that a good practice?
-
Ah. Regarding #3: If you have a disallow in the robots.txt the search engines won't pick up the noindex. Ensure the noindex code is in place on the applicable pages, remove the disallow, and the pages should be removed after they're crawled. getting that relationship straightened out might help with some of the other things as well. Cheers!

Thanks Ryan for the response. We'll surely prevent crawling of search result pages. Please check below points too. Thanks!!!
- The cache page shows merchant product page in full version as well as in text-only version.
- The title shown on the result page is also of the merchant's product page title.
- One thing on the comparison price page is merchants are redirected to their respective websites, the links are nofollow, but redirect page is indexed even after having it on robots.txt and noindex on redirect page.
- The redirect page is indexed like mywebsite.com/redirect-50187889-0
- Comparison listing is not similar to internal search result page but result pages are crawl-able.
-
no iFrames being used.

Thumbs up to Don's rec. Also when you look at the text only cache what kind of page are you seeing, if any? Sometimes the site: search is a little inconsistent so you can try forcing the delivery of certain pages with the inurl: modifier. One last caveat that comes to mind is that if the comparison listing is similar to an internal search results page, Google may not ever list it, "Use robots.txt to prevent crawling of search results pages or other auto-generated pages that don't add much value for users coming from search engines." from: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35769 Cheers!

How are you merchant prices / info being displayed on your site? From your site or using IFrames?

Spam URL'S in search results
We built a new website for a client. When I do 'site:clientswebsite.com' in Google it shows some of the real, recently submitted pages. But it also shows many pages of spam url results, like this 'clientswebsite.com/gockumamaso/22753.htm' - all of which then go to the sites 404 page. They have page titles and meta descriptions in Chinese or Japanese too. Some of the urls are of real pages, and link to the correct page, despite having the same Chinese page titles and descriptions in the SERPS. When I went to remove all the spammy urls in Search Console (it only allowed me to temporarily hide them), a whole load of new ones popped up in the SERPS after a day or two. The site files itself are all fine, with no errors in the server logs. All the usual stuff...robots.txt, sitemap etc seems ok and the proper pages have all been requested for indexing and are slowly appearing. The spammy ones continue though. What is going on and how can I fix it?

Issues with getting a web page indexed
Hello friends, I am finding it difficult to get the following page indexed on search: http://www.niyati.sg/mobile-app-cost.htm It was uploaded over two weeks back. For indexing and trouble shooting, we have already done the following activities: The page is hyperlinked from the site's inner pages and few external websites and Google+ Submitted to Google (through the Submit URL option) Used the 'Fetch and Render' and 'Submit to index' options on Search Console (WMT) Added the URL on both HTML and XML Sitemaps Checked for any crawl errors or Google penalty (page and site level) on Search Console Checked Meta tags, Robots.txt and .htaccess files for any blocking Any idea what may have gone wrong? Thanks in advance!

The word 'shop' in a page title
I'm reworking most of the page titles on our site and I'm considering the use of the word 'Shop' before a product category. ex. Shop 'keyword' | Brand Name As opposed to just using the keyword sans 'Shop.' Some of the keywords are very generic, especially for a top level category page. Question: Is the word 'Shop' damaging my SEO efforts in any way?

How to handle URL's from removed products?
Hi All, I have a question about a fashion related webshop. Every month about 100 articles are removed and about the some amouth is added to the site. Most of the products are indexed on brandname and type (e.g. MyBrand t-shirt blue) My question is what to do with the URL / page after the product is removed. I'm thinking about a couple of solutions: 301 the page to the brand categorie page build a script which shows related articles on the old URL (and try to keep it indexed) 404 page optimized for search term with links to brand category any other suggestons? Thanks in advance, Sam

Remove Deleted (but indexed) Pages Through Webmaster Tools?
I run a blog/directory site. Recently, I changed directory software and, as a result, Google is showing 404 Not Found crawling errors for about 750 non-existent pages. I've had some suggest that I should implement a 301 redirect, but can't see the wisdom in this as the pages are obscure, unlikely to appear in search and they've been deleted. Is the best course to simply manually enter each 404 error page in to the Remove Page option in Webmaster Tools? Will entering deleted pages into the Removal area hurt other healthy pages on my site?
