Is placing content in sub directories better for SERP
-
Hi
For small web sites with less than 6 pages
Is there a benefit to structuring url paths using keyword rich sub directories compared to pages in the root of the site.
for example:
domainname.co.uk/keywordpagename.html
or
www.domainname.co.uk/keyword/keywordpagename.html
which seems to have better rankings?
thanks

I would also base it on the site content. Does the site content (product listing) warrant an extra sub directory to be created. For example if you are selling cars, then you can have a directory for Honda and then another subdirectory for the specific make with the keyword Honda in it.
In your case since the site only has 6 pages, it would not make sense to create the subdirectories.

Given the size of the proposed site in my view it's very unlikely that placing an extra keyword in the sub-directory would be of any benefit to ranking.
If the site is going to grow then it would make sense to nest related content within a number of relevant 'parent' sub-directories, but if it's going to stay at that size, a flat structure is probably going to be equally effective.

What to do with old content after 301 redirect
I'm going through all our blog and FAQ pages to see which ones are performing well and which ones are competing with one another. Basically doing an SEO content clean up. Is there any SEO benefit to keeping the page published vs trashing it after you apply a 301 redirect to a better performing page?

How to Handle Subdomains with Irrelevant Content
Hi Everyone, My company is currently doing a redesign for a website and in the process of planning their 301 redirect strategy, I ran across several subdomains that aren't set up and are pointing to content on another website. The site is on a server that has a dedicated IP address that is shared with the other site. What should we do with these subdomains? Is it okay to 301 them to the homepage of the new site, even though the content is from another site? Should we try to set them up to go to the 404 page on the new site?

I thought it was just the way the CMS system was set up? Can anyone shed any light on this please. Thanks

Copying Content With Permission
Hi, we received an email about a guy who wants to copy and paste our content on his website, he says he will keep all the links we put there and give us full credit for it, so besides keeping all the links on the page, which is the best way for him to give us the credit? a link to the original article? an special meta tag? what? Thank you PS.Our site its much more authorative than his and we get indexed within 10min from the moment we publish a page, so I don't worry about him out raking us with our own content.
