SEO issues? New functionality added to website and now hash (in URL) - fragments
-
Hi All!
We have new nice functionality on website, but now i doubt if we will have SEO issues. Duplicate content and if google is able to spider our website.
See: http://www.allesvoorbbq.nl/boretti-da-vinci-nero.html#608=1370
With the new functionality we can switch between colors of the models (black / white / red / yellow).
When you switch with Ajax the content of other models is fetched without refreshing the page. (so the url initial part of url stays the same (for initial model) only part behind # changes. The other models are also accessible by there own url, like the red one: http://www.allesvoorbbq.nl/boretti-da-vinci-rosso.html#608=1372
So far so good.
But now the questions:
1. We use to have url like /boretti-da-vinci-nero.html - also our canonical is that way
But now if we access that url our system is adding automatically the #123-123 to the url to indicate which model(color) is shown. Is this hurting SEO or confusing google? Because it seems that the clean url is not accessible anymore? (it adds now #123-123)
2. Should we add some tags around the different types (colors) to prevent google from indexing that part of website?
Every info would be very helpfull! We do not want to lose our nice rankings thanks to MOZ!
Thanks all!

Hi All, Thanks for the updates.
We solved the issue by only add # to the url when changing from color. So initial load of the product is the clean url.
Guess that is all we need to do to don't get penaltilized by Google.

We had a problem like this starting a couple months ago. We installed Google Custom Search on a site with the results to be displayed on the same page. Now when you visit any page with the search box a hash and a few rubbish characters follow the URL.
So far, no ranking problems have been seen and no errors are showing in webmaster tools.
Andy's suggestion of rel=canonical is a good one. We should do that on our sites.

Hey Jeroen,
If I were you I would play with canonicals in order to not confuse google.
For example: this url http://www.allesvoorbbq.nl/boretti-da-vinci-nero.html is for the black version, but then if you navigate the page and you go to http://www.allesvoorbbq.nl/boretti-da-vinci-nero.html#608=1373&swatch_id=750 you should point to the correct URL which is http://www.allesvoorbbq.nl/boretti-da-vinci-colora.html.
In the last url you also have a bad canonical as even if here http://www.allesvoorbbq.nl/boretti-da-vinci-nero.html#608=1373&swatch_id=750 you're showing the colora model you're canonicalizing to the nero model. You should fix that.
About duplication this is your last problem as google doesn't index different portions of the same page and using the # you're telling google that those are internal anchors and not different pages.
I hope this makes sense.
E.

Hi Joroen,
Are you able to normalise the canonical element to point back to the non-hashed URL? I haven't actually worked on anything quite like this myself, so have no live data to share with you.
Google used to ignore what was after the hashtag (unless you used a hash bang #!), but you will now see anchors being indexed, so this may have some bearing on how it is actioned.

Should I optimize the login page? Will it affect the website SEO ranking?
I'm trying to resolve the site crawl issues that we have on our website. One of the links that has different issue types together is our login page. Currently we have two login pages that have the same content but different sub domains. **However I'm wondering if optimizing SEO on our login pages affects our website SEO ranking and if it's something better to do or not. ** To point out the details of the issues, the issue types that the logins pages have are "duplicate title", "duplicate content", "missing H1", "missing description", "thin content", "missing canonical tag" I'd appreciate your help, thank you!

I have rebuilt a website on a new domain and followed SEO protocol to maintain authority, but the results and rankings are declining.
We took over an account for a company called knightdoorservices.com who specialize in doors and windows in Edmonton, Alberta. We built them a new website on a new domain: knightdoorsandwindows.com. We did 301 redirects on all of the old URLs so that they now point to the new URLs so most of the authority should transfer over. Additionally, each page has a properly optimized title, h1 tag, a series of pertinent alt tags, and many instances of the focus keyword for that particular page. Additionally, the website loads quickly and has many high authority inbound links pointing to the domain. We have done this for many other companies and have seen their rankings maintain their position or increase. Is there something that I am missing for this company in particular? Thanks so much!

Same URLS different CMS and server set up. Page Authority now 1
We have moved a clients website over to a new CMS and onto a new server. The Domain and URLs on the main pages of the website are exactly the same so we did not do any 301 re directs. The overall Domain Authority of the site and the Page Authority of the Homepage, while having dropped a bit seem OK. However all the other pages now have a Pagerank of 1 I'm not exactly sure what the IT guys have done but there was some re routing on the server level applied. The move happened around the end of December 2014 And yes traffic has dropped significantly Any ideas?

Client is paranoid about Google penguin penalty from getting links from a new website they are building
We have a client that is creating a new promotional website that consists of videos, brands and product reviews (SITE B). After a visitor watches a video on SITE B they will be given a "click to purchase" option that will lead them to the original website (SITE A). Our client is paranoid that since all the outgoing links on the new SITE B are going to the original SITE A there might be algorithm penalty (for one website or both). I find this very unlikely and even recommend "no follow" coding for a peace of mind. However are there any resources/links out there that can back up my argument that they will be alright? Thanks

Technical SEO issue
Hi Everyone, I have encountered a major issue in one of my clients website(kitchen appliance website). This client has 2 main websites (A & B) linked with each other representing 2 different categories of appliances. We are trying to create some brand pages that this store carries. One brand page has been created and when searching for it on SERP, the results found should be under URL A but it is under URL B. I don't know what is going on? Can someone explain me what happened? Thank you,

From an SEO Standpoint, which is better for my product category URLs?
With our e-commerce store, we can customize the URL for the product categories, so we could have: http://www.storename.com/product-category-keywords/ or http://www.storename.com/product-category-keywords.html From an SEO standpoint (or even from a "trying to get links" standpoint), which would be better to have? I feel like having a *.html category page would be easier for link building, but that's just my personal feelings. Side Note: Our product pages are: http://www.storename.com/product-name.html Thanks in advance

Best SEO format for a blog page on an ecommerce website.. inc Source Ordered Content
Does anyone know of a page template or code I might want to base a blog on as part of an eccomerce website? I am interested in keeping the look (includes) of the website and paying attention to Source Ordered Content helping crawlers index the new great blogs we have to share. I could just knock up a page with a template from the site but I would like to investigate SOC at this stage as it may benefit us in the long run. Any ideas?
