Why would I be ranking for a term when it's not anywhere in my page or pages linking to it?
-
Hi, I have a keyword that's not anywhere in my page in page-grade tool nor are any pages linking to it with that term, why would that be ranking. The term is "dynamic card solution" This is a company we used to have 5 years ago and merged with our company. This term is ranking #1 for this page- http://www.datacard.com/instant-issuance-solutions . I can't figure why that would be even as this is a newer page in the past year.
Thanks for any insight as I'm newer to moz.

Very simple,
Your old site http://www.instantissuance.com uses a 301 redirect which can be seen here
http://www.internetofficer.com/seo-tool/redirect-check/
It then redirects to http://www.datacard.com/instant-issuance-solutions which is the exact page you mentioned above. In tools like Majestic and MOZ you can see that the most common term used in backlinks to the site apart from the domain name is "dynamic card solution".
When you perform a 301 redirect all the positive signals that a site has are passed to its new home. This is a clear indication of that happening.
I hope that makes sense!

Sounds like Google's Semantic Search update called Hummingbird. We are seeing a lot of traffic for keywords that don't appear on our pages. Pretty impressive on the part of Big G.

Hi Laura,
I think your key insight is in the next result in google serp. I can read that datacard acquired DCS and Cardwizard. It seems that you may be beneficiating of the strong relationship of DCS with the query you're highlighting.
Well in fact DCS is exactly the exact match for the query you show, so I think that google finds relevant to show the company that acquired the one leading that space.
Look at their facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dynamic-Card-Solutions-Instant-Issuance/92503396903
I'm not very confident with your market but I definitely understood that datacard is the new DCS and it seems that google understood that too
Welcome to the semantic world that hummingbird just brought!
Hope this helps!

Filter Pages
Howdy Moz Forum!! I have a headache of a job over here in the UK and I'd welcome any advice! - It's sunny today, only 1 of 5 days in a year and i'm stuck on this! I have a client that currently has 22,000 pages indexed to Google with almost 4000 showing as duplicate content. The site has a "jobs" and "candidates" list. This can cause all sorts of variations such as job title, language, location etc. The filter pages all seem to be indexed. Plus the static pages are indexed. For example if there were 100 jobs at Moz being advertised, it is displaying the jobs on the following URL structure - /moz
Moz Pro | | Slumberjac
/moz/moz-jobs
/moz/moz-jobs/page/2
/moz/moz-jobs/page/3
/moz/moz-jobs/page/4
/moz/moz-jobs/page/5 ETC ETC Imagine this with some going up to page/250 I have checked GA data and can see that although there are tons of pages indexed this way, non of them past the "/moz/moz-jobs" URL get any sort of organic traffic. So, my first question! - Should I use rel-canonical tags on all the /page/2 & /page/3 etc results and point them all at the /moz/moz-jobs parent page?? The reason for this is these pages have the same title and content and fall very close to "duplicate" content even though it does pull in different jobs... I hope i'm making sense? There is also a lot of pages indexed in a way such as- https://www.examplesite.co.uk/moz-jobs/search/page/9/?candidate_search_type=seo-consulant&candidate_search_language=blank-language These are filter pages... and as far as I'm concerned shouldn't really be indexed? Second question! - Should I "no follow" everything after /page in this instance? To keep things tidy? I don't want all the variations indexed! Any help or general thoughts would be much appreciated! A keyword my site ranks on has recently dropped from no 2 to 51+ after weeks ranking high.
Any ideas? The full SERP analysis still puts it at no 2 so I'm quite confused

Are there any alerts available for when a page stops ranking in top 50?
Hi At the moment I am doing this manually through Moz by going to the keyword and seeing what urls are ranking for it. I was just wondering whether I am missing a trick on moz or any other programs that would send me an alert every time a page that is ranking suddenly drops out? Thanks in advance.

Does the page authority data also considers the on page factors like the presence of keyword in the title, meta text, and keyword frequency ??
The moz difficulty score considers four factors for the top websites. are the on page factors included in the page authority data ?

Does anyone know of a crawler similar to SEOmoz's RogerBot?
As you probably know SEOmoz had some hosting and server issues recently, and this came at a terrible time for me... We are in the middle of battling some duplicate content and crawl errors and need to get a fresh crawl of some sites to test things out before we are hit with the big one? Before I get a million thumbs downs- I love and will continue to use SEOmoz, just need something to get me through this week ( or until Roger is back! )!
