Duplicate content issue with pages that have navigation
-
We have a large consumer website with several sections that have navigation of several pages. How would I prevent the pages from getting duplicate content errors and how best would I handle SEO for these?
For example we have about 500 events with 20 events showing on each page. What is the best way to prevent all the subsequent navigation pages from getting a duplicate content and duplicate title error?

Hi,
To add to all the good advice given so far, you can also utilise URL Parameters in WMT Search Console to specify that a cert URL pattern is canonical content.
Kind Regards
Jimmy

Hello,
I assume that you are using get method where page navigation values passed through query string like - abc.com/event?page=2, page=3,. If this is your case then you should configure 'URL parameters' on both Google and Bing search engines. URL parameters are kind of pre notice for search engines crawlers to know that page content is duplicate on pages - event?page=2, page=3. After configuring URL parameters, Search engines will only index 'abc.com/event' page and exclude indextion of page=2, page=3 and so on
Few other important tags [rel="prev", rel="next"] you should add to notify crawlers that content is in pagination.
eg. on page - abc.com/event
<link rel="next" href="https://www.abc.com/even?page=2" />
on page - abc.com/even?page=2 <link rel="prev" href="https://www.abc.com/even" /> <link rel="next" href="https://www.abc.com/even?page=3" />
You may check pagination given on Arvixe Review
Thanks!

Hello.
I would include a different description and title for every section to avoid them as being duplicates if you only list the events.
Then, for the navigation on each section, you have three good options:
- Remove every page except the first from search engines using robots.txt
- Create a "Show all" page, linked from menus, and put canonicals on each pagination pointing to the full listing.
- Implement the link rel="next" and rel="prev" meta tags to help Google interpreting it is a pagination.
Any of those ways would help quite a lot to Google so that it can understand what is happening on your site.
I hope it helps you.

Dynamic Pages with No Results Causing Thin Content
Hi Mozers, We have dynamic listing pages that pull in clinical trial results for specific disease types. Sometimes diseases have clinical trials and sometimes they don't. This means that sometimes the page will have zero results and sometimes it will return results. We have a sizable number of these so that when there are zero results, these pages look like thin content. What is the recommended method of dealing with this? Is there a way of doing a conditional noindex where the page is indexed if results are pulled in and and not indexed when the page returns zero results? If we can do this, should we? Will it confuse Google and send negative signals? Any guidance/thoughts are much appreciated! Yael

Possible to Improve Domain Authority By Improving Content on Low Page Rank Pages?
My sites domain authority is only 23. The home page has a page authority of 32. My site consists of about 400 pages. The topic of the site is commercial real estate (I am a real estate broker). A number of the sites we compete against have a domain authority of 30-40. Would our overall domain authority improved if we re-wrote the content for several hundred of pages that had the lowest page authority (say 12-15)? Is the overall domain authority derived by an average of the page authority of each page on a domain? Alternatively could we increase domain authority by setting the pages with the lowest page authority to "no index". By the way our domain is www.nyc-officespace-leader.com Thanks, Alan

How much content on PDF download page
Hello, This is about content for an ecommerce site. We have an article page that we also created a PDF out of. We have an HTML page that doesn't have anything commercial on it that is the download page for the PDF page. How much of the article do you recommend we put on the non-commercial HTML download page? Should we put most of the article on there? We're trying to get people to link to the HTML Download page, not the PDF.

Duplicate page content and duplicate pate title
Hi, i am running a global concept that operates with one webpage that has lot of content, the content is also available on different domains, but with in the same concept. I think i am getting bad ranking due to duplicate content, since some of the content is mirrored from the main page to the other "support pages" and they are almost 200 in total. Can i do some changes to work around this or am i just screwed 🙂

Removing Duplicate Page Content
Since joining SEOMOZ four weeks ago I've been busy tweaking our site, a magento eCommerce store, and have successfully removed a significant portion of the errors. Now I need to remove/hide duplicate pages from the search engines and I'm wondering what is the best way to attack this? Can I solve this in one central location, or do I need to do something in the Google & Bing webmaster tools? Here is a list of duplicate content http://www.unitedbmwonline.com/?dir=asc&mode=grid&order=name http://www.unitedbmwonline.com/?dir=asc&mode=list&order=name

Duplicate page Content
There has been over 300 pages on our clients site with duplicate page content. Before we embark on a programming solution to this with canonical tags, our developers are requesting the list of originating sites/links/sources for these odd URLs. How can we find a list of the originating URLs? If you we can provide a list of originating sources, that would be helpful. For example, our the following pages are showing (as a sample) as duplicate content: www.crittenton.com/Video/View.aspx?id=87&VideoID=11 www.crittenton.com/Video/View.aspx?id=87&VideoID=12 www.crittenton.com/Video/View.aspx?id=87&VideoID=15 www.crittenton.com/Video/View.aspx?id=87&VideoID=2 "How did you get all those duplicate urls? I have tried to google the "contact us", "news", "video" pages. I didn't get all those duplicate pages. The page id=87 on the most of the duplicate pages are not supposed to be there. I was wondering how the visitors got to all those duplicate pages. Please advise." Note, the CMS does not create this type of hybrid URLs. We are as curious as you as to where/why/how these are being created. Thanks.
