I'm invisible!

Dear all,
Earl 2015 i launched www.taobao.nl. Its a platform that shows the products of chinese marketplaces in our local language (auto translated) and provides the option to pay in our local currency & methods.
(i blocked all the auto translated product pages via http://www.taobao.nl/robots.txt)
All content (category pages, general pages etc) are unique and written by us.
In the past I've set up several websites and shops and i know it always takes time and effort to get a site to good positions, but i never experienced that my efforts did not pay of. Until now
The url is not blocked by Google and i see a (very) limited amount of traffic in WMT & Analytics, but the site is >page 30 on its most important keyword 'taobao'. This, while the competition on this keyword is low in my country (google.nl).
My main competitor (taobao.com.nl) seems to do worse on most SEO elements i was able to check, but they rank very well on 'taobao' and all related keywords.
What could be the reason of this very poor ranking and what should i really adjust / improve?
(besides backlinks: i'm working hard on that)Your input is deeply appreciated!!
Sander

Update: The bad links have been disavowed and WMT does not mention them anymore (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/external-links).
Also the no-follow tags have been removed.
Still working on high-quality links (:-)) and im trying to add content on a daily basis.
So far no results.

Thanks & bedankt
I'll disavow that link in WMT. Useful info!

most of your incomming links are from palminvest.nl That business went out of business. Out of business i a very public and bad way.
I would start with preventing that and getting you some good links.

I wouldn't take too much notice of that as it thinks my site is penalised or sandboxed - which it is neither It only looks at your homepage, it seems. Tested a couple of others and you definitely can't take anything away from it.
A penalty is difficult to spot if you haven't noticed a sudden drop in traffic. It takes quite a bit of digging.

Hi All,
I just tried this checker: http://pixelgroove.com/serp/sandbox_checker/ and it seems there might be a penalty on the domain. Does anyone know how i can be sure this is the case and how i can ask Google to re-evaluate?
(there is no warning in Webmastertools, so i can't submit a request for re-evaluation via that way)

Sander

Hi Andy,
"Have you performed an audit to see if there are issues lurking anywhere that could be causing problems?"
Is there any tool in specific that you can recommend?
Thanks!

Hi Mike,
The thing is that the original product content is Chinese. English would be readable for my Dutch audience, but Chinese is no option.
All content on category pages and general pages are normal unique content in my language.
The site is about 6 months old and the domain has no history.
Regards,
Sander

Johannes,
Auto translated content does not have a negative effect on your SEO, just on user readability. Using Google Translate across your entire website will make your website hard to read in those translated languages. Take a page that is translated, and translate it back to English. It is the quickest fix yes, but more work needs to be done with the translator toolkit.
Thanks,
- Mike

To be appearing so far down the SERP's, it sounds like a trust issue from Google.
How old is the site? Have you performed an audit to see if there are issues lurking anywhere that could be causing problems? As Hector said, you are no-following links from the menu, but based on what you said above, this is to prevent the fact this information is pulled in from other sites? I suspect problems might start from around here.
From Google, this might seem like a strange way of doing things. There is no harm in allowing the links ( I would not advise no-following these), but you can no-index pages that you worry might get caught up in duplication.
Let Google crawl your site and see the pages you don't want indexed.

Hi Hector,
Because the product pages have auto-translated content. I understood this has a negative effect on a sites ranking.

Without looking too deep into the site, I see at hrefs.com you only have 10 referring domains, and only 7 of them are not "nofollow".You should focus on a linkbuilding strategy at first.
Also, minimize and join your .js files. You load way too much external files for a site like that.
Why do you block product pages? They are the most importante pages on an ecommerce site.

How can a recruitment company get 'credit' from Google when syndicating job posts?
I'm working on an SEO strategy for a recruitment agency. Like many recruitment agencies, they write tons of great unique content each month and as agencies do, they post the job descriptions to job websites as well as their own. These job websites won't generally allow any linking back to the agency website from the post. What can we do to make Google realise that the originator of the post is the recruitment agency and they deserve the 'credit' for the content? The recruitment agency has a low domain authority and so we've very much at the start of the process. It would be a damn shamn if they produced so much great unique content but couldn't get Google to recognise it. Google's advice says: "Syndicate carefully: If you syndicate your content on other sites, Google will always show the version we think is most appropriate for users in each given search, which may or may not be the version you'd prefer. However, it is helpful to ensure that each site on which your content is syndicated includes a link back to your original article. You can also ask those who use your syndicated material to use the noindex meta tag to prevent search engines from indexing their version of the content." - But none of that can happen. Those big job websites just won't do it. A previous post here didn't get a sufficient answer. I'm starting to think there isn't an answer, other than having more authority than the websites we're syndicating to. Which isn't going to happen any time soon! Any thoughts?

List of SEO "to do's" to increase organic rankings
We are looking for a complete list of all white hat SEO "to do's" that an SEO firm should do in order to help increase Google/Bing/Yahoo organic rankings. We would like to use this list to be sure that the SEO company/individual we choose uses all these white hat items as part of an overall SEO strategy to increase organic rankings. Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to where we can obtain this complete list? If this is not the best approach, please let me know what is, as I am not an SEO person. Thank you kindly in advance

Why isn't the Google change of address tool working for me?
Last night I switched my site from http to https. Both sites are verified in Webmaster Tools but when I try to use the change of address it says- Your account doesn't contain any sites we can use for a change of address. Add and verify the new site, then try again. How do I fix this?

No matter what I do, my website isn't showing up in search results. What's happening?
I've checked for meta-robots, all SEO tags are fixed, reindexed with google-- basically everything and it's not showing up. According to SEOMoz all looks fine, I am making a few fixes, but nothing terribly major. It's a new website, and i know it takes a while, but there is no movement here in a month. Any insights here?

How to prevent 404's from a job board ?
I have a new client with a job listing board on their site. I am getting a bunch of 404 errors as they delete the filled jobs. Question: Should we leave the the jobs pages up for extra content and entry points to the site and put a notice like this job has been filled, please search our other job listings ? Or should I no index - no follow these pages ? Or any other suggestions - it is an employment agency site. Overall what would be the best practice going forward - we are looking at probably 20 jobs / pages per month.

How to get the 'show map of' tag/link in Google search results
I have 2 clients that have apparently random examples of the 'show map of' link in Google search results. The maps/addresses are accurate and for airports. They are both aggregators, they service the airports e.g. lax airport shuttle (not actual example) BUT DO NOT have Google Place listings for these pages either manually OR auto populated from Google, DO NOT have the map or address info on the pages that are returned in the search results with the map link. Does anyone know how this is the case? Its great that this happens for them but id like to know how/why so I can replicate across all their appropriate pages. My understanding was that for this to happen you HAD to have Google Place pages for the appropriate pages (which they cant do as they are aggregators). Thanks in advance, Andy
