Wordpress Old Articles date - Update or Not
-
Hey there!
Been reading around and I believe that there isn't a perfect answer to this question, but I surely want to know your opinion.
It's a fact that google likes new content but also updated content, so whats your position concerning the wordpress articles. Meaning, when I decide to update articles from 2011 on its content, should I also update the date?
If I make a search and an article from 2011 will be shown, its unlikely that I will click on it...
So that you can understand my point.

Maybe I will leave the date as it was then...
Based on minimal changes, I would do this. A minimal update doesn't need to sit in the background though. Remember to get busy and let everyone know when you update something

Yes, my only point is to tell user that it was updated and not being penalized by google.
Sometimes the changes are minimal, like in 2011 we recommended X and Y products and now we recommend the Z product because X and Y were discontinued.
Maybe I will leave the date as it was then...

I would be tempted to add an 'updated' date and leave the original posted date in place. This way you satisfy both readers and Google.
The only time I would update the actual posted date, is if the article was very significantly different - to the point it wasn't that recognisable as what it used to be.
Get busy sharing the post socially again and make sure you advise people that it has been updated to reflect new data.

If you do this - do it for the reader, not Google.
If the article has been refreshed with some great value and you think your audience would benefit from seeing it again, then I would update the date. However, if you're trying to game Google by making out that the content/URL is new and fresh (by trying to take advantage of its freshness algorithm), not only would that be frowned upon, but I think I'm right in saying Google has clamped down on that effectiveness quite a lot since 2013.

Sitelock and anti malware by hackers on wordpress
Dealing with my first client that had hacker situations on her wordpress... and she just got into sitelock. I am curious what everyones thoughts are and what other plug ins you suggest. I have used and suggested things like wordfence, bulletproof security, wordpress security, things like that. I just don't want her to get into a scam and I don't know enough about it.

How to Get Rid of Duplicate Content Captured on Article Lists
We have a ton of articles and blog posts on our site. Currently, we display summary lists of articles that contain the first paragraph of the article in the summary list. However, in my reports, this is coming back as duplicate content with the full article itself. How do I fix this? Ex: article main page- http://www.robots.com/articles/10 First article on that page- http://www.robots.com/articles/viewing/grippers-for-robots (which shows up as duplicate content with the main artilce page). With our blogs, we have the most recent 5 blogs (in the same summary format) listed on our main blog page. We then have categories that people can sort by. But again, this is causing us duplicate content because those pages show the first paragraph of the blogs related to that category. Ex: blog main page- http://www.robots.com/blog. First blog listed on that page- http://www.robots.com/blog/viewing/robots-and-automation-bringing-jobs-back-to-the-united-states (which then shows as duplicate content with the main blog page). And then you can also select categories to see related topics: http://www.robots.com/blog/category/buying-a-robot which is showing as duplicate content also. Help! How can I prevent this? Thanks! My WebSite has two sections with overlapping, or redundant articles on the same topics. Google is only listing one or the other article in Search Results. What should I do to have both pages (similiar but unique content ) to be listed?

Where in my wordpress admin panel do I add the .
Having read Rand's post about the canonical tag I very much wish to use it to advise Google that the duplicates created during archiving (due to the fact that the posts have multiple categories) are just copies. I understand the theory, but can't transfer it into practice! Could someone give me an idiots guide as to how to add the tag and to where. My site produces approx 10 - 20 blog posts per week. Each has at least 2-4 categories applied to it. They are archived each month, at which point I have a big jump in duplicates in my campaign panel. Help! C:\Users\Catherine\Desktop\me_small.gif

Are you sure moving a wordpress blog to a main website is a good idea?
Sorry to ask this question again but I left out some background info...... My blog sits at www.gardenbeet.wordpress.com I have been using the blog as my main linking page for my main website at www.gardenbeet.com - the blog links to relevant sites in both blog articles and on the side of the blog. The blog links to industry websites that in turn link to my main website at www.gardenbeet.com. If I was to move the wordpress blog to my own domain will my mainwebsite loose its strength. Will all those blog links pour my link juice out of my website? Will the current three way links become two way links and thereby lesson their linking importance? Is the previous recommendation (combine the blog and the main website) still the best course of action? Should I keep the two sites or perhaps close entries on the existing blog and start another on my own domain? thanks for your time AGAIN
