OSE Getting Less Accurate
-
It seems that the more links I get the lower my DA is. My DA has been dropping for some time now as I gain more backlinks. It also does not seem to pick up anywhere close to the number of domains that is linking to my site. My url is hiddentriforce.com
GWT says I have over 600 domains linking in. The majority of the links are from news or articles that we cover which other sites pick up and link to us as the source. We also have a ton of scholarship links from .edu and education sites from a giveaway that we do every year for students. Why does OSE seem to lower my DA the more I get off-page factors to the site?

Hello!
Thanks for reaching out to us and I'm sorry to hear you are seeing a lower domain authority score lately. Over the last few months, our index size has been increasing significantly and we recently reached a milestone of 300 billion links! Unfortunately, we could not release a similar amount for this month and had to cut the index size in half in order to prevent further delays. Our founder and current product architect has more detail about the situation here: http://moz.com/community/q/what-s-the-story-on-mozscape-updates
To compare the numbers from the previous index, you can view those details here: https://mza.bundledseo.com/products/api/updates
Hope this helps and we hope our next release will bring your scores back up! If you have further questions about this, feel free to write into us at [email protected].
Thanks!
Kevin

Hi there
First, always check Moz's health section to see if there are any issues that may be giving you odd information.
Second, I would go through a few backlink sources to get more data than just Search Console:
Majestic
OSE
Ahrefs
KerbooAll of the above can help you get more data sets and score your profile. I would check all of your backlinks and see if there are any you can remove or even disavow. I would make sure you vet links by asking the following questions:
-
Does this link help my website?
-
Does it send quality traffic?
-
Is this link relevant to my website?
-
Would I trust this site (that's linking to me) if I landed on it?
-
Is the website or content in which I am being linked from topically relevant to my website?
-
If you check metrics - does anything about the metrics (domain authority, page authority,Majestic, SEMRush traffic/ranking data, etc) make me feel uneasy?
-
Are the links from directory templates? (example)
-
Inspect URLs with blatant spam words
-
Free
-
Porn
-
XXX
-
Submit
-
Directory
-
Paid
-
Links
-
URL
-
Sex
-
etc.
-
Check for multiple domains and URLs on the same IPs
-
This can usually show link farms or spam
-
Don't be quick to discount nofollow links - nofollow's do provide value, so as long as they pass your sniff test, don't remove them simply because of this tag
It sounds like there could potentially be issues with your backlink profiles, so I would give those a run through and see if there are any issues that arise. I also noticed that your top linking website is a redirect from legendzelda.net - so, you're inheriting all of their backlinks as well - I would make sure you run through those as well as you are potentially taking on their issues.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

If I migrate to a new domain, does my Domain Authority score get migrated also?
For business reasons, I migrated my domain with a DA score of 85 to a new domain. After some time, the DA score on the new domain is only 45. My migration plan and redirects went smooth and all redirected with best practices in mind. I am still ranking well for almost all of the keywords where I've 301 redirected old URL to new. Any feedback welcome!

Inbound Link checking gets different answers
I've been comparing the inbound links report from Open Site Explorer against other backlink services and the results are very different. E.g. Compare the domain on http://backlinkwatch.com/ When I ran my test this other service found about 30% more active backlinks...why would Open Site Explorer skip those results?

Fastest way to get new backlinks recognised by Moz?
Hi all, I have seen a few discussions / advice pieces around this, but wondered what the current view is on the fastest way to get new backlinks recognised by Moz? I have seen people say that the content needs to be shared (e.g. on Twitter), and advice around creating Bitly links. I am not convinced that these techniques are working. On a related note, my website is very large. I have around 2.5m pages. Most of these pages are 3-4 clicks from the home page, but I have a small amount of important content much higher up in the site (1-2 clicks from the home page). Does Moz crawl pages nearer the home page more frequently, or does it make a pass of all pages on the site before it starts at the beginning again? If it makes a complete pass of all pages, then presumably making my site smaller will help to get Moz to see new content more quickly? Is there any other value to be gained in making a large site smaller? Many thanks in advance, Neil.

How can I get links indexed in Just Discovered Links, or Open site Explorer? (Because it aint Bit.ly or Feedly!)
Dear Moz & Forum, I've been on a bit of a merry-go-round with one of my clients. He knows enough about SEO to ask questions, and one thing he likes is to see the links that we are building inside Open Site Explorer. Now, of course we know that it takes a while for links to show, but that was ok, because we could just plug the links that we've built into a bit.ly link and then they'd show under Just Discovered Links in Open Site Explorer, and then boom, we're happy. It stopped working some time ago, and after the support team were a little unstuck I sent a hopeful tweet to @randfish. Here is the response: https://twitter.com/randfish/status/788412272129347584 The advice to use Bit.Ly was removed swiftly after this! Oops! The current Guidance is here: https://mza.bundledseo.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer/justdiscovered It says: Want to see your new link in the Just-Discovered Links tab? An easy way to start seeing your link in the Just-Discovered section is to have it shared on Twitter and available on Feedly link. Feedly stopped supporting their own link shortner a few years ago. Also, when you share a link from Feedly on twitter it is just the same as sharing a normal tweet, because it shares the standard URL for the site not a link to view on Feedly. Or, maybe these two statements are independant of one another and they should both be done separately? I've done that too! I've also added the feed to recommended feeds inside fresh web explorer and that didn't work either! So, Moz and Help team please help me! How can I get links I've built for clients into Just Discovered Links? Thank you!

Am I using OSE wrong?
Hi - new to all this! A link on a competitor site is showing as 404 when I check it with OSE but nothing on the page seems to be broken. It's got loads of links to it, so I'm trying to work out what's going on. I just filtered the results by '40?'. Thanks

OSE not picking up all internal links?
Hi! I've been checking a few pages in OSE. For example: https://www.holidayhypermarket.co.uk/holidays/last-minute This, according to the tool, has only 6 internal links. However, a Screaming Frog crawl picks up 700+, which is about right seeing as there is a link in the footer. What do you think could be behind the discrepancy?

How to get Root Domain backlinks with OSE

Why are none of the links we've received from press and other sources from the last two months showing on our Inbound Links in OSE???
It's really hard to judge if the DA of our site according to MOZ is 1) up to date and 2) accurate when for example there are SO many inbound links still not recorded, that were published months ago.
