Optimize code
-
Hi Guy's,
In Wordpress we've got the plugin "WP Rocket". It's possible to optimize CSS, JS, HTML and Google Fonts.
If i optimize (minify) CSS and JS the website will load faster and the pagespeed will be reduced. So i guess that's always better for SEO results en SERPS...
But what will happen if i optimize my HTML code? It will be much shorter but less organized. Will this also affect SEO results and rankings? I'm awear that less code will increase my text ratio, but don't know if Google will punish the website for having a code that's not very good organized.
Thanks!

Top thanks The only strange thing was that when i optimize my HTML code the Text/HTML ratio decreased :S

You should minimize / uglify your code - because it speeds up your site (https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/MinifyResources).
Don't worry about readability/organisation of the code - that's for humans. Browsers & bots interpret the code - and as long as it is (more or less) valid HTML it will be rendered/crawled without problems.

Optimize homepage or category for main keyword?
Hello, we have an advertisements website. Usually in each country we have this one "main" keyword which has the largest amount of searches. Now we have done both ways in different markets. Sometimes optimize the homepage www.example.com for the keyword, sometimes optimize **www.example.com/thekeyword **the category page. I do not have solid data which works better, as Keyword difficulties are too big to compare. The good thing with category is that i would have internal links pointing to it and keyword in the url. Questions: 1. Which do you recommend better?

What coding works for SEO and what coding doesn't?
Hi: I recently learned about inline styles and that Google started penalizing sites for that in October. Then I was told that Wix and Flash don't work (or work well) either for SEO as the engines won't crawl them (I think). Does anyone know of a blog that goes over everything that doesn't work so that I could recognize it when I look at someone's code. Anyone know of such a resource? Cheers, Wes

Repeating Content Within Code On Many Pages
Hi, This is sort of a duplicate content issue, but not quite. I'm concerned with the way our code is written and whether or not it can cause problems in the future. On many of our pages (thousands), our users will have the option to post comments. We have a link which opens a JavaScript pop-up with our comments guidelines. It's a 480 word document of original text, but it's preloaded in the source code of every page it appears on. The content on these pages will be relatively thin immediately, and many will have thin content throughout. I'm afraid so many of our pages look the same in both code and on-site content that we'll have issues down the line. Admittedly, I've never dealt with this issue before, so I'm curious. Is having a 480 word piece of text in the source code on so many pages an issue, or will Google consider it part of the template, similar to footer/sidebar/headers? If it's an issue, we can easily make it an actual pop-up hosted on a SINGLE page, but I'm curious if it's a problem. Thanks!

Confirming Robots.txt code deep Directories
Just want to make sure I understand exactly what I am doing If I place this in my Robots.txt Disallow: /root/this/that By doing this I want to make sure that I am ONLY blocking the directory /that/ and anything in front of that. I want to make sure that /root/this/ still stays in the index, its just the that directory I want gone. Am I correct in understanding this?

Can I optimize two different pages with very similar keywords without hurting SEO?
Hi there, I have often heard that you cannot have multiple pages rank for the same keyword. My question here is more about long tail keywords who have the same keyword phrase repeated on different pages. For Example: I have two webpages with different content. I want to have one page (Homepage) rank for the more generic term such as "innovation management" and another supporting page rank for "innovation management software". Will Google see these two different webpages as competing? Should I avoid repeating the more general term in the phrase? Has anyone ever seen your SEO results decline when doing this? I don't believe this is duplicate content since the pages hold completely different copy and assets but I am not sure if the repeating phrase in the title tags will flag anything to the search engines.

Optimal / Best Practice Title tag
Hi Guys, Am I write in saying google will take / create many variable from your title tag? Graphic, Web Design and Online Marketing in Ireland | Company Name results: Graphic Design, Web design, Web design in Ireland, Online Marketing in Ireland, Online Marketing, Graphic and Web Design, etc etc. (plus lots of long tail there as well). Would this be considered the optimal way as 'Design' is the common denominator for Graphic & Web. Then Ireland can be common to every other keyword such as Graphic design, Web design, Online Marketing. (in ireland) The reason why I ask is: lately I've notice title tags being stuffed with keywords and don't actually read correctly in the SERP My suggested way could have more benefits plus it reads well. Your thoughts, thanks.
