Do I use H1 tag for logo or page content?
-
Should the h1 tag be used for the main page content or the logo?
I understand the original method was too H1 the logo with the main search term, does this still hold true or should it be content focused?
-
No your brand name will always be your brand name. If they search for that your brand name should come up no 1. So do not waste a H1/SEO opportunity unless the boss demands it. The searcher is looking for you, you should rank no 1 for your brand name so in that instance the H1 brand name has no impact.
The exceptions could be where the brand name is or includes the keyword target etc. So may need to think a little more laterally. So if the company is called "Health Insurance Inc" & and is chasing the word Health Insurance. In that instance making your H1 your brand name... or part thereof is a good idea!.
The H1 should be helpful to both google and the customer - so frame your H1 in that light for each page.
Hope that assists.

Thanks interesting, makes good sense.
So to clarify an exception might be if you were promoting brand name? -
No the H1 is important for google. It helps match a searchers intent with the page. ie if looking for beds ... then ideally the H1 has the word bed in it. Additionally it assists in comforting the customer they are on a relevant site if the H1 in some manner matches the keyword (searchers intent) that was typed in.
The H1 assists in telling google what you page is about especially if the content on the page is not clear. There impact has been reduced but I believe still significant and simple enough to implement and do properly. Each page should answer a customer query so consider them as content title tags that help tell google understand what the page is about.
Each page should have a unique H1 tag and only one that describes that pages content and contains the target keyword for that page.
Hope that assists. To clearly answer your query. The H1 should not be your logo.. though there maybe rare page exceptions.

Internal link from blog content to commercial pages risks?
Hi guys, Has anyone seen cases where a site has been impacted negatively from internal linking from blog content to commercial based pages (e.g. category pages). Anchor text is natural and the links improve user experience (i.e it makes sense to add them, they're not forced). Cheers.

Pages with similar content: Redirect or Canonical? Or something else?
We have two pages on our site with similar content. One was originally a landing page for a marketing campaign, somewhat of a micro-site feel with a lot of content. We recently optimized another page on the site with much of the same content from the original landing page/micro-site. In order to avoid duplicate content, and to let Google know our authority page is the new page, we're wondering what is best practice: Should we... 301 redirect the old page? No index the old page? Keep both pages and use a canonical to tell Google the new page is authority? Or something else?

Bigcommerce & Blog Tags causing Duplicate Content?
Curious why moz would pick up our blog tags as causing duplicate content, when each blog has a rel canonical tag pointing to either the blog post itself and on the tag pages points to the blog as a whole. Kinda want to get rid of the tags in general now, but also feel they can add some extra value to UX later on when we have many more blog posts. Curious if anyone knows a way around this or even a best solution practice when faced with such odd issues? I can see why the duplicate content would happen, but when grouping content into categories?

Do I put a canonical tag on the page I am pointing to?
Lets say B i a duplicate page of A (main page). I understand I have to put canonical tag under B to point to A. Do I also put canonical tag under the main page A? Is it necessary? I understand that A would then tell Google that it is preferred page of A? Is this a correct understanding?

Should I use rel=canonical on similar product pages.
I'm thinking of using rel=canonical for similar products on my site. Say I'm selling pens and they are al very similar. I.e. a big pen in blue, a pack of 5 blue bic pens, a pack of 10, 50, 100 etc. should I rel=canonical them all to the best seller as its almost impossible to make the pages unique. (I realise the best I realise these should be attributes and not products but I'm sure you get my point) It seems sensible to have one master canonical page for bic pens on a site that has a great description video content and good images plus linked articles etc rather than loads of duplicate looking pages. love to hear thoughts from the Moz community.

Why Put an H1 Tag On A Product?
Why would you put an H1 tag on a product name? I came across this in another forum and thought I'd float it here.
