How can i get a higher ranking
-
Hey All,
As a rookie on SEO, I optimised this page http://www.nhad.de/fernstudium/sprachkurse/arabisch/sprachkurse-arabisch/arabisch.aspx for the keywords Arabisch lernen. I saw a huge improvement from position 100+ to position 45. but now it's stuck around this position. Are there any things I missed on this page? Are there still things to increase the ranking? I hope to learn from you. thanks in advance!

I truly believe that the user is one of the most underrated signals.
I wrote that, but I thought: "maybe it is more a reason than we think..." -
Thats not the reason why you are not ranking well, just bad for readers.
It might be the reason, if readers arrive on the page and bounce. I think that you make a good point.

I've not that much time today, but: **EGOL **has some perfect examples like "hundsmiserabel" (wich is not really used anymore). The language changes, the words get shorter. But thats not the problem here. Just 2 things:
[...] für Kursteilnehmer, dass sie Arabisch lernen möchten. Thats not german, that's anything different... _für Kursteilnehmer, arabisch zu lernen. _Thats a lot better. We allready had that: Bedarf an Menschen, die Arabisch lernen wich is simply not the greatest german ever: Bedarf an Menschen, die Arabisch sprechen. The rest is correct. But... to hard to read:
Algerien, Bahrain, Ägypten, Irak, Jemen, Jordanien, Kuwait, Libanon, Libyen, Marokko, Mauretanien, Oman, Palästina, Katar, Saudi-Arabien, Sudan, Syrien, Tunesien und den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten ^^ in the middle of that phrase I was like, ok letz go back and search another page.
I usually don't count Keywords, but for "arabisch lernen" the my result #1 used that phrase exactly one time! It's really hard to read your stuff to the end. That's - for a language school - not really acceptable. You should make me want to read it.
Thats not the reason why you are not ranking well, just bad for readers.

Hello EGOL,
thanks for your reply and some interesting ideas. I'll take it into consideration!

Hallo Andreas,
Let's keep it in Englisch on Moz ;). Thanks for your comprehensive answer. I started optimising this page about 1,5 month back. Arabisch Lernen does have a lot, lot, lot more search volume. Way more then other relevant keywords like arabisch kurse, fernkurs arabisch or fernstudium arabisch.
Wenn I checked the page with the on page grader from MOZ it didn't say that the content was stuffed with the keywords Arabisch lernen. it's under the 15 times. With externel linking the page passes link juice to the other page, how thus this help this page?

There are many fun things that can be done with free language lessons.
As an example, German has verbs for people and verbs for animals, example... trinken / saufen, essen / fressen. Most students of German in the United States find these amusing and something that you must be careful with to avoid insults.
German also has many words that English speakers immediately understand or misinterpret. Examples: hundsmiserabel (English speakers see that as "sick as a dog" and interpret it properly)... but, krankenhaus (many English speakers would guess that to be "insane asylum" instead of "hospital")
Done well and better than my attempt above, short presentations on these would be fun information for visitors and hold them on the page.
These would be a lot of work to develop. Experience teaching German would be important so that a person would know which parts of teaching German to English speakers are fun, embarassing, confusing, interesting, for the learner. I think that they would help earn rankings by keeping people on the page and attracting attention to the website.

I used to read German a lot, but that was over 40 years ago. Today my reading ability is limited.
I believe that your page has a generous amount of content. I checked several snips of content for uniqueness by searching for them between quotes. It appears that your content is unique.
It appears that your main goal is to rank for "Arabisch lernen". You have that phrase is in your <title>and appears a few times in the text. However, I would include it in </span><h1> tags and in the breadcrumbs. </span></p> <p><span>Those are minor changes and will probably not move your rankings very much. What you need next is a strong website, title and descriptions that elicit clicks, and a page that holds visitors.</span></p> <p><span>If this was my site I would offer a couple short lessons for free. The purpose would be: A) offering free lessons in the title tag will elicit clicks.... B) free lessons will engage the visitor.... C) free lessons might earn some links, likes, tweets, bookmarks, etc. The free lessons would address title tags, visitor engagement and site strength.</span></p> <p> </p></title>

OK I hope we both speak the same language, but as long as we are on moz I do it in english Otherwise it would be hard for you to optimize that domain...
First, when did you start optimizing? Than, you used a lot of exact match phrases in the content, a bit to much for me when I highlight these words. I think you could link to some pages (like the wiki statistics u cite). You also don't link much intern. You can get a lot of positiv signals by linking intern whenever it fits. You don't have one backlink to that page (not Domain) and thats not normal
I hope you realized, that the page is perfect for "fernstudium arabisch" (I know taht a lot, lot, lot more people are searching for "larabisch lernen") - you got position one on that phrase. You may should search for some other keywords/querries - because arabisch lernen is possible in a lot of ways - apps, in school, books...
The Text isn't perfectly written, not a lot of synonyms/semantic - seems like you tried to build senteces with the exact phrase "arabisch lernen" - Here is what I mean: "steigenden Bedarf an Menschen, die Arabisch lernen" you know thats not correct - what you mean is "steigenden Bedarf an Menschen, die Arabisch sprechen". You put that phrase in a lot of senteces but excluded the h1 and url. Hmmm..
A lot more things are possible
Have you looked to the first 10 Results? Some Domains seem to have a linkprofile wich is really killing. Great Designs a lot benefits. What could you do better?
You may get a lot of visits via socials - actually should be somehting possible with that hashtag: #refugees - I don't know how to build a bridge to learn - but google made it with the G-translator - maybe you could brainstorm.
If you like german answers ^^ gplus in my profile + a lot onpage tipps in german on intenseo-blog, but one thing - you chose a pretty hard topic for a SEO Rookie - really. I think you end up pretty sad - you are challenging spiegel-online and a lot of universitys, i-Tunes and playstore. A well known language school just on position 10... Guess they got a lot more budget than you have - just because I saw there TV Ads... really hard topic, tuff competitors - best luck

What to do if ranking the wrong KW?
I wrote a blog article targeting a long-tail KW - "[primary KW] pricing revealed". the article is performing so well that is actually ranking 2nd nationally for my primary KW. I would rather have my conversion page rank for my primary KW obviously. I'm considering cutting and pasting the content from my blog page onto my conversion page with a 301 redirect from the blog to the conversion page. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks, Ryan

How specific do I have to be when adding keyword to the meta title which I am trying to rank for?
I am looking for some clarity on what exactly you need to spell out for google in the exact match and what google understands in terms of using keywords in your meta title which I am trying to rank for. For example if my category page is for women's top, with both printed and solid color options, would it be ok to write- "Women's Tops: Printed & Solid Shirts & Tunics" and be able to rank for women's tops, women's printed tops, women's solid shirts etc. or would I have to be more specific and use women's as the keyword modifier before each term and write- "Women's Tops, Women's Printed & Solid Shirts, Women's Tunics"?

An apparent ranking mystery...
I built the site https://www.sylvaniachurch.com about 5 years ago, but the site has been live for more than a decade. Tyler has hundreds of churches and Sylvania Church currently site ranks second for most variations of "churches in tyler tx." Sylvania has a well-optimized homepage, several well-optimized subpages, a consistent sermon audio feed, and an increasingly used blog. In addition to what's on the site, there are a few other relevant sites that link to the Sylvania site and I have completed profiles on virtually every business listing site known to man. Here's the oddity. The website that ranks third and even displaces Sylvania for the second place spot from time to time (http://www.crosspointecc.com/) has only been a live URL for a few years, has no readable text on the homepage other than the nav menu, has very little content on the subpages, no blog that I can find, and fewer links from less authoritative sites. What's even odder to me is that Sylvania Church has the following numbers according to the MozBar: PA: 26 mR: 3.64 mT: 3.28 DA: 14 DmR: 3.27 DmT: 2.74 The numbers for CrossPointe: PA: 24 (2 less than Sylvania) mR: 4.68 (1.04 higher than Sylvania) mT: 5.30 (2.02 higher than Sylvania) DA: 13 (1 less than Sylvania) DmR: 2.98 (.28 less than Sylvania) DmT: 3.49 (.75 higher than Sylvania) The obvious question is, "Why does Moz like this site better than mine? What am I missing?" Thanks for any help you guys can give!

How do I get rid of crawl errors?
I recently revamped all my category pages to make them Google friendly. I did a lot of keyword research and ended up deleting categories and renaming categories. Now Google Webmasters is showing a ton of 404 errors. How can I get rid of them? Do I have to remove the URL one by one with Google Webmasters? Is it something that won't hurt my rankings and will go away in time?

Keyword in URL: Ranking Factor?
I've got a site about a specific topic, which we'll call "themes" for the sake of this discussion. I personally like to keep the url structure short and clean (for usability purposes, but mainly because I'm a perfectionist and a minimalist). I feel that adding "themes" to the url structure is a bit redundant. However, nearly every keyword phrase that my site should rank for includes the word "themes." So I'm wondering how much I'm handicapping myself by not including the keyword "themes" in the url? The domain name itself sort of includes the keyword . . . although it's in Italian (I chose the domain for it's brand-ability, not for the keyword). A quick example: My Url Structure: www.themo.com/topic/abc My Competitor's Url Structure: www.sitesample.com/themes/topic/abc For many of the keywords, the competitors with the keyword in the url rank highest. But, I'm not sure how much emphasis to place on this, because from my understanding Google doesn't pay as much attention to url keywords anymore . . . and those sites might just be ranking high because they've been around for so long (which also happens to be the reason why they coincidentally also include the keyword in the url, because they started the site when that was a high ranking factor). Thoughts? Should I just trash my perfectionism and add the keyword to the url structure? (By the way, the site is only a couple months old and doesn't have any significant backlinks to inner pages yet, so changing the url structure wouldn't be a big deal if I decided to do that).

Google Ranking Dropped
Hi We launched a new website on the12th Feb 2012, it appeared on google page one for the search term "compare travel insurance" . Last week it changed ranking to page 49 of google ranking. my site is www.1234compare1234travel1234insurance1234ireland1234.com Take out the 1234 for my site address, some people have mentioned that it was honeymooned to page 1 due to being a new site with new content. Can anyone tell me if it looks as if I've done something wrong and been penalised by google? If not are there any SEO advice I could use to improve ranking? All comments and advice appreciated. Regards Paul

Create a new page or try to improve rankings for homepage
I'm working with a client attempting that competes in the highly competitive anti-virus market with a very limited marketing budget. They are currently ranking well for only a few terms - one is "Free Antivirus trial" - currently position 11 on Google. The top ranking sites have a page SEO'ed for this term. My client's SERP is their homepage, seemingly based primarily on the meta description tag. For SEO and PPC purposes I would like to create a new page specifically for the "Free Antivirus trial" but I'm afraid of messing with the second page listing that currently exists. My question for SEO folks is... Should I create a new, properly SEO'd page or attempt to improve the home page ranking?

Why home page ranks higher than keyword-optimized page
We have a page that is optimized for the keyword "job scheduling". A search on the keyword "job scheduling" results in this page not ranking at all, while our home page (uc4.com) ranks third. Could you provide some ideas/suggestions as to why this would be the case and how to make our job scheduling page rank higher? Thanks, claudia
