What is the best SEO tool for tracking local rankings
-
Hi
Can anyone recommend what they think the best tool is to track local rankings. I want to manage several small businesses' visibility and I am not sure which one is the best. I have been told that "Bright local" and "SEO PowerSuite" are the best in the business. Is that true? or is there something better out there
Thanks

If you want to track your rankings rather than doing competitor analysis, according to me SEMRush is the best.
Cause you can track keyword ranking on local based (city level), national based and global based as well. It's really essential after the pigeon update.

I've only ever used Moz Pro to track local rankings against local competitors, etc. I have nothing bad to say about it. I get everything I need. But then again, I've never used anything else.
What do other tools have for local rank tracking that Moz doesn't offer? (Genuine question. I'm curious what I may be missing out on.)

We use SEO PowerSuites Rank Tracker program and have been for some time.
They list local listing positions in brackets and display a little map icon next to the number so its easy to distinguish which of your keywords are ranking in local positions.
They have also added a new feature recently which allows you to change the location of which you are searching in (like you use to be able to do in Google before they removed it) so you can check the results depending on the location of the searches.
I have never used any other program so I don't have anything to compare it to but it does what we need it to do so don't feel the need to change!
Hope that helps

How Do You Think My Local SEO Multi-location Geotargeting Strategy Will Work?
I have a question. I just got a full-time job at Zavza Seal, an upstanding insulation contractor targeting neighborhoods of Suffolk and Nassau counties in New York. I was hired as an SEO content specialist. (Thanks Rand! You're one of my mentors~!) So, they handed me a spreadsheet of pages for city-specific terms, and they had a system in place for local rankings. But I was taught to do service-specific city pages a certain way. If the search term is for people looking for a service in that town, that's what you give them. However, I was told to proofread them, and as an SEO specialist, I couldn't keep my hands off of them. The pages were skimpy. (Example: h2, paragraph, bullets, short paragraph summary, short paragraph about the city.) What threw me off is that the content, while it was service specific, it was blog topics localized. Those are great (when long enough and optimized to compete in SERPs) but I've never seen them done on service pages. (Example: Why is Mold Remediation Necessary in Baldwin?. Now, this went in two directions in my mind. (and I wanted to do the best for the company, because I'm a wicked brat for teams, AND I get commissions on leads, so that was motivation, too.) 🐷 Anyway, 1. This could be a new approach and worthy of an SEO study on my startup site, where I take on part time clients after work, because I've never seen it done before and it could, if optimized for the target service and city rank high in SERPs AND build thought leadership and authority as a local expert. (Whereas city service pages in standard format would just promote your service. ..) What do you guys think? I just put the topic up for discussion for my team, asked them about it in detail and asked if they wanted to A'/B test a few to see what get's better traction organically. Mr. Fishkin was one of my mentors. I really wish I just had his number for this one LOL.

Local SEO & Google Maps Question - 1 Company with Multiple Google Pages
Hey Mozzers! I'm working with a client who has 2 websites (different URLs completely), which one is for all parts and the other is for accessories only. They have multiple brick and mortar locations throughout the US and have done a nice job creating Google My Business pages for each and all verified. Their question is will it benefit them to create and verify another GMB page with same address, but place in "Suite B", a new phone number and apply the other URLs for the accessories site. The business name would also be different, but similar meaning Business 1 = ABC where as Business 2 = ABC Accessories. Their goal would be to try to have both rank or display to improve their local SEO. In theory it sounds like it will work given NAP would be satisfied within the GMB, but wanted to get the Moz community thoughts on this first before moving forward. Look forward to the replies. Which domain extension would benefit my SEO the most? Old vs New .com or .shoes
Having a keyword in a top domain extension like .com could benefit your SEO. Well I think it was like that.
Local SEO | | KnowHowww
So if you would sell cars and you had cars.com it could benefit. But is there something to say about the new extensions like .shoes.
Do they have the same impact or are they just not old enough? A domain like cars.com is probably registered since the beginning of the Internet so it carries more weight. I'm curious to hear your opinion on the matter. Thank you in advance,
kind regards, Eelco0 -
Legalicy of videos used for local SEO
Hello, A client of mine wants to use someone else's video (video of how to train your dog) in his pages for "dog training (His City)" The person who makes the how to train your dog videos sells DVDs and that's how he makes his money if that matters. We want to make sure we're giving the proper credit and doing this OK. What do we need to keep in minds for legalities and respecting the author? Thanks.

SEO and IP based content
Hello, We are building a guide/directory that will service multiple cities across Canada. Currently, our home page will detect your IP, and display local content on the home page. Although we feel this is incredibly useful to the end user, we are worried about how search engines will interpret our home page. In addition to our home page, should we have landing pages for each city that we are in? and should we follow site structure like this? www.thesite.com/vancouver So if a user from Vancouver goes to our home page, they will see Vancouver related content, but how would a search engine see the home page? We would like to know the best approach to placing well for searches in different Canadian cities. Most of our searches will be city specific: Calgary widgets, Vancouver widgets, etc. Thanks

Decline in rankings
Hello everyone, Our website has NOT yet ranked on page 1 for any of our keywords but something strange happened two days ago when we noticed that 7 of our Leeds keywords and 2 of our Manchester keywords were ranking between position 5 and 8 on ''page 1'' so we made a list of them. To make sure that we were not mistaken, we checked this at 3 different occasions over a period of 3 hrs and 2 of my colleagues witnessed this too. We were really overwhelmed as we were not expecting this rise at all. But we were shocked when we rechecked these rankings today and noticed that ALL these rankings have dropped from position 6-7 to 15-25 and this has happened for 9 keywords. There has been no Google message in the webmaster tool etc. Has someone ever noticed something similar. At the time of rise in rankings, we were spending huge money on PPC campaigns, could that be a reason why our organic rankings went really high??? I dont think there is a connection between organic and paid rankings but that is the only thing that I can think of really. Any advices will be highly appreciated Thanks in advance

What is The Best Way to Rank in Multiple Countries?
Hi, I have a client that would like to rank in google.ie as well as .co.uk and in the middle east and possibly other parts of Europe. What is the best way to go about this? Would a new domain for each country be best and hosted in that specific country or is there a way to do this with one site? Bearing in mind that SEO will need to be done to rank in each country. Many Thanks.
