Duplicate content issue
-
I'm getting duplicate content warnings from Moz for various slideshows on my posts and pages in Wordpress. It seems when I create a slideshow it exists as its own page and as these have no text Moz sees them as duplicates.
Here are some examples -
http://www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/?gallery_page=slideshow&pp_gallery_id=1331991312
Moz says is a duplicate of -
http://www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/?gallery_page=slideshow&pp_gallery_id=1000144730The second of those two slideshows is on this page -http://www.weddingphotojournalist.co.uk/menorca-wedding/ but also exists as the page above.
How can i avoid these being seen as duplicate content?
-
Hi Simon,
WordPress isn't great at handling slideshows and paginated pages in order for SEO. What would be best to do is have a developer look into this and make sure that canonical URLs are added to the page in order to respect the duplicate content. There are as far as I know no out of the box solutions for this.

Title: http://bit.ly/2P6v9To Description: http://bit.ly/356BkvY H1: http://bit.ly/2PrlmpU Canonical tag: http://bit.ly/355rQRU Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

What's more valuable: new content or optimizing old content
We are a niche legacy print publication that's been around for close to 20 years. Recently, we combined several old sites in one new responsive site. We have over 7,000 articles -many of which are evergreen and can be repurposed when needed. Most of the old pieces although published, have not been optimized for SEO. However, as we create new pieces, we optimize them for search and social and they tend to get more organic traffic. Where we're torn is on how much we should balance our limited editorial resources between cleaning up and optimizing our extensive archive to improve our organic reach, vs. pumping out new original pieces each week. I realize that without a lot of data the answers will be varied - I guess I'm looking for a best practices approach for content publishers. If it helps at all, our main conversion goal is selling subscriptions to our print and digital publications. We know that organic traffic tends to be more engaged than our social referrals. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the magazine fulfilment business, it's tough to know which channels convert better. Thanks!

Hard to explain, but here are URL examples. http://www.ocelco.com/store/pc/www.ocelco.com/store/pc/Bathtub-Floor-Corner-Stainless-Steel-Grab-Bar-Right-Hand-left-hand-pictured-688p3308.htm http://www.ocelco.com/store/pc/www.ocelco.com/store/pc/Bathtub-Floor-Corner-Stainless-Steel-Grab-Bar-Right-Hand-left-hand-pictured-696p3308.htm http://www.ocelco.com/store/pc/Bathtub-Floor-Corner-Stainless-Steel-Grab-Bar-Right-Hand-left-hand-pictured-p3308.htm http://www.ocelco.com/store/pc/Bathtub-Floor-Corner-Stainless-Steel-Grab-Bar-Right-Hand-left-hand-pictured-688p3308.htm Any Idea's how to fix / get rid of these URL's? Are there tools to discover duplicate content issues with the other websites?
We have issues with users copy-pasting content from other sources into our site. The only way I know to find out, is to manually (!!) copy a snippet of their text into google, to see if I get results from other sites. I have been googling for tools to help automate this process, but without luck. Can you recommend any?

Crawl diagnostics incorrectly reporting duplicate page titles
Hi guys, I have a question in regards to the duplicate page titles being reported in my crawl diagnostics. It appears that the URL parameter "?ctm" is causing the crawler to think that duplicate pages exist. In GWT, we've specified to use the representative URL when that parameter is used. It appears to be working, since when I search site:http://www.causes.com/about?ctm=home, I am served a single search result for www.causes.com/about. That begs the question, why is the SEOMoz crawler saying there is duplicate page titles when Google isn't (doesn't appear under the HTML improvements for duplicate page titles)? A canonical URL is not used for this page so I'm assuming that may be one reason why. The only other thing I can think of is that Google's crawler is simply "smarter" than the Moz crawler (no offense, you guys put out an awesome product!). Any help is greatly appreciated and I'm looking forward to being an active participant in the Q&A community! Cheers, Brad

How do I fix a duplicate content error with a top level domain?
Hi, I'm getting a duplicate content error from the SEOmoz crawler due to an issue with trailing slashes. It's showing www.milengo.com and www.milengo.com/ as having duplicate page titles. However I'm pretty sure this has been fixed in the .htaccess file since if you type in the domain with a trailing slash it automatically redirects to the domain without a trailing slash, so this shouldn't be an issue. I'm stuck here. Any ideas? Thanks. Rob
