Counting Places LIstings in Manual Rank Checking?

Hello,
When doing manual keyword lookups, are people counting Google Places listings in their rankings? E.g. If the website's places listing is the "5th" item on the results page, do you count that keyword as "5"? -- even if the organic listing comes up first at, say, position $20?
On one hand I'd be in favor of including them in order because "who cares" if the user sees your website first, or the Places listing that points to your website first?
But then again, it's my understanding that places listings are highly variable, so that they should be skipped entirely in calculating rank positions.
So what are others out there doing?
And by places of course I mean Google + Local/Plus or whatever they are calling it this week.

When I am explaining to my Local SEO clients how to view search engine rankings, I say something like this:
"You are ranking in the B position (2nd) in the blended/local results for X term. You are ranking 3rd in the organic results for X term".
I differentiate between the two types of results, because they stem from different factors, though some factors are shared. Let me show you this as a live example, to be totally clear. Look at the results on this page for the query 'dentist san francisco':
SFGreenDentist is in the B position (2nd) in the blended local results (the ones with the lettered pins). DrMarkle.com is ranking #4 organically. In other words, SFGreenDentist.com has managed to achieve high local rankings and DrMarkle is doing pretty well organically, but hasn't broken into the true local results with his/her efforts. If you, instead, looked at the first page of the SERPs as a whole, I suppose you could say that SFGreenDentist is 5th overall and that DrMarkle is 11th, but I would not recommend doing this, particularly if you are working with Local SEO clients because it is important for them to understand that these results stem from 2 different sources.
This often comes into play, especially, when dealing with service radius businesses (like plumbers, landscapers, chimney sweeps, etc.) who serve in a number of neighboring cities. The way Google is handling local rankings at this point, the typical strategy for, say, a plumber physically located in San Francisco would be for him to go after a primary blended/local ranking for 'san francisco plumber' and to go after secondary organic rankings for other cities where he serves where he is not physically located. In other words, for terms like 'plumber san jose', 'plumber oakland' and 'plumber santa clara', he would be targeting organic rankings for the most part, because Google is unlikely to show him in the true local results for these searches due to his lack of a physical location in the neighboring towns.
So, viewing these 2 types of results as separate makes good sense, in my view, because the work and potentials of gaining high rankings in them requires different factors and tactics. Hope this helps!

Hi,
For people to care or not to care about the Google places listings in the SERPs may largely depend on the search term and the intention. If they are doing a search to find a Dentist in so and so location, then the Google places listings can serve the purpose of search and if the search is intended to find out information or to check out a product or prices, then these Google places listings will be skipped by the searcher. Despite of all these, wherever or whenever possible, we have to get our website optimized for Google places also.

Changed from www to non-www lost all rank. Will it return?
My web site used https://www.domain.com for the past 18 months. We finally got to #3 position for our top keyword. We changed web servers and our wordpress admin section somehow got changed to https://domain.com. As you can imaging I'm not too happy. We do have 301 redirects installed. Yesterday I noticed that our site was not ranking anymore. In fact, all our pages and our site URLs at https://www.domain.com have been de-indexed. I assume because that no longer exists. Using site: all the web pages under https://domain.com (which were identical to the old www) are now listed. All of them. However, none are showing in searches unless we search for the business name. They are not appearing under keyword searches. I would assume that the 301s (which are installed property) would make the site keep it's rank, as the pages are all identical. Will we ever get our rank back? Should we switch back to www? Or do the 301s just take time to hit? How long if that's the case?

Why is my site ranking well on google but not on Yahoo and Bing?
For our site Boynton Law, we added it to be indexed on Yahoo and Bing but none of the keywords are showing up in the top 50 rankings. Why are our keywords not working on Yahoo and Bing, but on Google our keyword rankings for Boytnon are really strong?

Keyword ranking stuck in neutral... Suggestions needed
Hi everyone. I wanted to make a post in hopes of getting some opinions on my next course of action when it comes to SEO. I have worked for my current company for 3 years and raised their keyword ranking from 39% to 55% (according to MOZ's keyword tracker). I did this mostly through improving on-page SEO for each keyword. I think the on-page SEO is as good as it can get? Just so you guys know there are 101 keywords they want to rank for nationally. We currently rank for 56. My current company has really starting to ask me more about the percentage we are at and they of course want it to grow (or show consistent growth) as time passes. Since May 2014 it seems to have fluctuated each week from 50% to 58%. Some other info: We are well known in our industry We post on social media almost every day We are at event trade shows We are a global company We have tons of ads in industry magazines etc. We have industry news sites write about us and link to us We are consistent with press releases (a few a month) With that being said, where should I go from here to get those number to grow? As I mentioned, my company is starting to look at these numbers more.

Any way to track rank of a URL for keyword BEFORE setting up in Rank Tracker?
Hello all I realize this data is probably impossible to get but thought I would take a chance and ask. Anyone know of a way to see ranking for a URL for a keyword before being setup in Rank Tracker? Ranks moving up & Down for a certain keyword search
Hi, We had lost rankings for certain keywords completely from google's index about 5 months ago. Recently the rank for the keyword reappeared on google. But it keeps moving up and down. One day on 26th position, next day it is on 45th position, then it comes back to 30th position. This has been going on for over a week now. Why will my site not rank for this keyword?
My site http://www.electric-heatingcompany.co.uk/ performs quite well for most of my keywords and gets ok traffic. But for "electric radiators" it just isn't ranking? Big difference in rank on google.com and google.no
Hi Our E-com website went from 8th to 1st spot yesterday for our most important keyword (barneklær = childrens clothing) on google.no weirdly enough we arent ranking on first page at all on google.com . I find this very strange especially since the keyword itself is so country specific - mainly because of the norwegian specific letter - æ. The results are not due to personalization i ve check it with the keyword difficulty tool here on seomoz. The sites ranking higher then me on google.com are sites i am ranking higher then on google.no. Anyone got a good explanation ? The changes for my keyword in ranking i saw yesterday was alot more then i am used to see - almost like google made some sort of script change. we went from 8th to 1st. 1st dropped to 4th, 5ht went to 2nd etc - i am not used to seeing this big changes. Anyone got a clue to either of these 2 questions ?
