Am I using pagination markups correctly?
-
Hey Mozzers!
I am receiving duplicate title tag errors from Search Console on paginated pages (blog.com/chlorine, blog.com/chlorine-2, blog.com/chlorine-3). I do not currently have a view all page. If I were to create one, would I add all the content from chlorine-2 and chlorine-3 to the blog.com/chlorine page? Then use the rel=cononical on chlorine-2 and chlorine-3 to blog.com/chlorine?
If I move forward without the view all page, I could implement the next/prev HTML markups but can I do this without dev help? I am currently using the Yoast SEO plugin and do not see the option. Would I use the text editor to add the markups directly before the content?
I think I have a grasp on this, but this will be my first time implementing and I want to double check first! Thanks!

Here is the view all page I created. Each of the anchor text links will take you into each paginated page (6 in total). All 6 of these pages have a canonical tag back to view all page.
Did I set that up correctly? Thanks for your insight!

Sure, please share an example URL to help me suggest you on this.

Sorry Nitin, I just saw this message! Would you still like to review, I can always send the URL along. Thanks!

Could you please share the URL here? Would like to have a look at the way you've implemented this.

Update
I did not initially have a view all page, the first page simply had a sentence and read more anchor text to each chlorine article /chlorine-2, /chlorine-3. I went ahead and took page one (blog.com/chlorine) and used this to create a full article. I took a paragraph, or more, from each page (blog.com/chlorine-2, blog.com/chlorine-3) with a link to the full article.
I then added rel=conanical to blog.com/chlorine-2 and blog.com/chlorine-3 back to blog.com/chlorine. I think I've gotten it all squared away. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks Moz!

Hi,
The best way to handle this kind of scenario is by implementing pagination wisely. Even if you don't have a view all page for your content, may be you're doing lazy loading or something similar to show the entire content to your users but bots' HTML snapshot misses all this content. Hence, its better to support pagination and expose them to bots using proper pagination.
All you need to implement is a doubly linked list kind of structure where your first page's next pointer points to second page and it doesn't have prev pointer; second page's prev pointer points to first page and its next pointer points to the 3rd page; similarly last page doesn't have next pointer but its prev pointer points to the second last page. You can refer this guide for implementing the same. This site can be referred to understand how exactly to implement this.
Yes, its really trivial to implement this, you might need a dev's help though if yoast doesn't support this. Hope this helps!
Feel free to write here if you need any further assistance on this. Cheers!

Still ok to use
This is the flag to prevent google storing a copy of your webpage. I want to use it for good reasons but in 2013 is it still safe to use. My websites not spammy but it's still very fresh with little to no links. Each item I sell takes a lot of research to both buy and sell with the correct info. Once it's sold one I may just come across another and want to hold my advantage of having already done my research and my sold price to myself. Competitors will easily find my old page from a long tail search. Some off my old sold pages keep getting hits and high bounce rates from people using it as reasearch and price benchmark. I want to stop this. So, No archive first, then 301 to category page once sold. Will the two cause a problem in googles eyes?

Question about duplicate images used within a single site
I understand that using duplicate images across many websites was become an increasingly important duplicate content issue to be aware of. We have a couple dozen geotargeted landing pages on our site that are designed to promote our services to residents from various locations in our area. We've created 400+ word pieces of fresh, original content for each page, some of which talks about the specific region in some detail. However, we have a powerful list of top reasons to choose us that we'd like to use on each page as is, without rewriting them for each page. We'd like to simply present this bulleted list as an image file on each page to get around any duplicate written copy concerns. This image would not appear on any other websites but would appear on about two dozen landing pages for a single site. Is there anything to worry about this strategy from a duplicate content or duplicate image perspective in terms of SEO?

Using Rel=Author with Multiple Contributors
I have multiple contributors who provide content on our page. I have created an authors page that shows the picture and bio of each author along with their Google+ profile link. Each profile link goes to the authors respective profile where I have had them verify themselves as contributors. My question is will Google see each of these authors and attribute the rel=author tag correctly (even though they are listed on the same profile page) or will Google only take the first person I point to for Rel=Author?

Developing a drop down menu: Do I use javascript or pure css?
I am developing a drop down menu and am trying to decide if using javascript instead of just css is worth it. I've done some research on the topic and the opinions seem dated. I know that at one time not using javascript for a drop down menu was important but now less so. Google constantly says that they will not discount the links just because they are not shown until javascript is ran. What I want to know is has anyone discovered from testing that using javascript instead of css for a drop down makes a difference? Note: the links will not be located in an external javascript file.
