Is there a best practice for how to set up an Age Restriction prompt for a website (vape equiptment)
-
I am working on a website that sells vape equipment and supplies and is required to have an age restriction (birthday) prompt in order to enter the site. Is there a 'best practice' way to implement this?
-
Chris, we typically recommend that you would identify Google's bot(s) and not serve up the notice to Googlebot. You can certainly also set up a popup (popover) that shows the first time someone visits within a certain period of time--and then not show it on subsequent visits. So Google would get it the first time, and maybe not get it again for another 10 days or 30 days.

Hi Eric, Thank you for your answer. I should have been mnore specific in how I phrased the question. I am looking for a best practice from an SEO perspective. Is there a standard way to ensure the google spider can reach this content? Maybe turn off the prompt if a certain signature is present but not sure if might be penalized if content is modified based on spider signature.

There are restrictions for certain locations, based on what I see in Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_of_electronic_cigarettes. You may need to find the laws in your location and see what's required in your location.
As for a standard text or other popup, if your country doesn't require it, you may not need to have a popup (or you may need to determine the user's location based on their IP address and have it popup for certain users only). For standard text, I would look at some of your competitors to see if what they are doing--and consult your attorney or lawyer to make sure your business is compliant (they may provide you with the text to use).

Seperating Different Parts Of The Website
Hi There, I have a client with two parts to his business both for different types of customer with different language and copy needed. At the moment they have one website and I am trying to figure out the most search engine friendly way to present these different types. So for example if a client came in looking for service A, he would see the home page for service A and if he came in looking for service B he would come across the home page for service B. I know I could have seperate service pages for each service he provides, but I think it would be off putting to come to a home page of a site and see completely unrelated services on one page. I hope I am explaining myself here. As far as I can see the options are:- subdomains for servicea.examplesite.com, serviceb.examplesite.com and a split page (see attachement) where you click which you are interested in (don't like this idea) seperate websites a home page which shows all the services (too confusing) Any advice would be most grateful. SEO while designing the website and continuous SEO
What's the difference between SEO while designing/developing a website (ie, setting up a website so it is crawled by search engines) and the SEO that people talk about that needs to be viewed analyzed and changed all the time? I don't have a ton of money to spend on SEO right now but I do want to make sure my website is set up by an SEO expert (if possible) so when I do have money to spend on SEOthe website is set up properly to work with more advanced forms of SEO. I guess I don't understand where you can draw the line (if forced due to money constraints) between SEO in the beginning and continued SEO. What do I need to look for with SEO and the design of my website. How do I get some type of SEO without breaking the bank??

Searching for BEST e-Commerce Multilanguage Platform, Need Advice
I have 2 online store in Canada. Both are selling One bilingual (English&french) Filtration Montreal and a unilinguale store Furnace Filters Canada Both are offering the same products at the same price for Canadian. We work hard to rank on Google.ca because we only sell and ship to Canada. The platform of Filtration Montreal is very basic and limited. For example, the url structure make it very hard to rank on Google.ca This platform is very not SEO friendly with url like: http://www.filtrationmontreal.com/en/product/honeywell-genuine-filter-95/pack-of-5-genuine-honeywell-furnace-filters-20x20x5-601.html The only good thing about this platform, is the multilingual option. The customer can shop in french or English. I would like to move that store to a new platform where I can create a multilingual online store. Do you have sugestions? Furnace Filters Canada is on BigCommerce. I find it SEO friendly. Using SEOmoz tools and new to SEO, high competitive keywords like: furnace filters, furnace filter are ranking on 3rd rank in Google.ca fist page! This site is getting more & more visitors every months. The only frustrating thing is the English only version of the stores to customers. QUESTIONS: What will be the SEO impact if I'm moving Furnace Filters Canada to a new platform? Do you have suggestions in finding the perfect multilanguage e-Commerce platform? Andrew Bleakley suggest Ashop. Anybody using Ashop? How about a eCommerce platform that can manage my 2 stores at the same time. REMEMBER, we sell and ship to Canada only. Thank you for your help and support. BigBlaze
