Does data highlighter changes override the hard coded schema markup?
-
I hope one liner question explains what I'm looking for.
-
It's possible that Google might give Data Highlighter information more credence when generating a rich snippet, but the success rate for that is far from 100%, as Andy and Bas have mentioned. It's just as likely that Google will be confused about which data is correct, and either not generate a rich snippet at all or generate one based on the schema markup. I haven't had much success adding markup via the data highlighter or via Google Tag Manager; hard-coding it always seems to work better. If your schema markup is incorrect, I would not recommend using Data Highlighter to try to fix it without changing the code - your best bet is just to change it, especially since Data Highlighter won't help you out on Bing/Yahoo.

Hi,
No, data highlighter doesn't overwrite schema, but I can say that in every instance I have seen it tried, it has never worked. I always end up creating correct schema for a page.
Personally, I would be interested to know if anyone has ever got Google's Data Highlighter to actually work.

Not for me but curious to hear what you are looking for exactly.

Does integration of external supplemenatry data help or hurt regarding googles perception of content quality? (e.g weather info, climate table, population info, currency exchange data via API or open source databases)

In SEO forums people guess that there was likely a Phantom update or maybe a Panda update. The most common advice I found was adding more unique content. While we have already unique proprietary content on all our pages and we plan to add more, I was also considering to add some content from external sources. Our site is travel related so I thought about adding for each city page external data such as weather, climate data, currency exchange data via APIs from external sources and also some data such as population from open source databases or some statistical info we would search on the web. I believe this data would be useful to the visitors. I understand that purely own content would be ideal and we will work on this as well. Any thoughts? Do you think the external data may rather help or hurt how google perceives content quality?0 -

Schema question
Hi all, We have two Trustpilot schemas (Local Business) on our web pages ( One on desktop / one on mobile) but we are finding that it is not updating the number of reviews in the search results. When using the tool : https://developers.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/ , the test results are coming back ok. I have two ideas as to why it may not be working; 1) The duplication of the schema code is causing issues 2) We had to change the html code for all of our 50+ backend pages using a search&replace WordPress plugin to save a vast amount of time. Maybe this is plugin related? The fact that the google testing tool gives back positive results adds to the confusion. I test both of the theorised issues to see if it provides a fixes. Can anyone shed some further light on this issue? Is there something obvious I am missing? All responses are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Tom p.s. Worth Modifying Code to Have Text Appear Near Top
Our site uses Wordpress. The code is somewhat heavy. The text to code ratio for the home page is only 16%. Our developer suggests that we modify the code so that the important text appears at the top of the page (without changing the design) so that Google can index it more easily. My developer feels this would be more beneficial for SEO. He believes that reducing the code would create HTML errors. The home page is www.nyc-officespace-leader.com Is this approach sound? My developer describes it in the following manner: | Let me say that I don’t believe the text to code ratio has a significant impact on SEO per se but of course that reducing code, it will reduce page weight therefore it may help to improve ranking. See Homepage for example, this is the top landing page of your site, therefore it is very relevant to optimize. You can see the first block, from attached it has very little content and too many code. There is almost nothing to do about it, visually that is a very good block, in terms of SEO it isn't. I do not recommend to take it off just for SEO, that will make all pages with lot of text, lack of images and people may go away. On the other hand, most of the cases we want to improve text code ratio, there is an impact on unexpected BUGs because the code is being changed and this may affect functionality. I would suggest to spend time on improve the sort-order of the important content inside the code, so we may have similar text code ratio at the end but the important code we need Google to index will be at the very top in the source code, in terms of a very technical approach Google will find the key content faster and that should help to improve the crawling process as search engines read HTML code linearly. This change do not necessarily will affect the HTML, we can achieve it by using style sheet (CSS code) instead, reducing the chance of major BUGs. Either is our choice, we need to evaluate potential problems, code issues and content impact and also we need to apply changes and wait at least 3-4 weeks to start seeing results. It is a long task. Let me know your thought about this, we will estimate a task to improve code without affect web design |

Changing domain for a magento store
Hi all, wondering if i could gather some views on the best approach for this please... We currently have a magento site up with about 150,000 pages (although only 9k indexed in Google as product pages are set to no index by default until the default manufacturer description has been rewritten). The indexed pages are mainly category pages, filtering options and a few search results. While none of the internal pages have massive DA - seem to average about 18-24 which isn't too bad for internal pages, I guess - I would like to transfer as much of this over to the new domain. My question is, is it really feasible to have an htaccess with about 10,000 301 redirects on the current domain? The server is pretty powerful so could probably serve the file without issue but would Google be happy with that? Would it be better to use the change url option in WMT instead. Ive never used that so not sure how that would work in this cause. Would it redirect users too? As a footnote, the site is changing because of branding reasons and not because of a penalty of the site. Thanks, Carl

Schema Markup for Magento
Hi, I am looking into placing schema on my site that is hosted by Magento. There are a few different extensions that will automate the rich snippets around our content. Some of them are: http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/seo-rich-snippets-google-bing-yahoo-schema-org.html http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/google-rich-snippets-for-magento.html http://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/msemantic-semantic-seo-for-rich-snippets-in-google-and-yahoo.html Does anyone have any experience in automating the rich snippets especially in Magento? Did it work? Are there any negative ramifications of doing it this way? Thank you,
