On Site Question: Duplicate H2...
-
Hi All
A few on-site audit tools pull information on duplicate H2 tags on pages. This implies it's a bad thing and should be fixed - is that the case?
On one of my sites the tag-line is in H2 in the header, so appears on every page... Just wondering if this is something worth fixing.
Thanks

I have to say, GTAMP, I agree with all the above advice. As Jared notes, this isn't something that's going to wreck your traffic on its own. However, David is spot-on that it's certainly worth fixing if the cost isn't too high.

In cases like this I always say: if it cost's nothing to remove it, then remove it!
you want see a boost, but atleast you have a better base for the future, since we just dont know how things will end up

Hi GTAMP,
I would definitely remove the h2 tag from your site-wide header tagline.
Heading tags should be used to demonstrate a hierarchy to the content on a page and using a h2 in the site's tagline in the header is not doing this.
I wouldn't expect to see any noticeable gains from only removing the h2 tag, but it's one of those things where it all adds up in the end.
Cheers,
David

Hi,
I wouldn't worry too much about this. It's not ideal to have so many duplicates (especially if they're on the same page), which is probably why this is getting tripped in the audit tools, but it's not something I would lose sleep about. At the end of the day, headings are for structuring content for the user, so if it makes sense, do it.
It's mostly about multiple headers on the same page, but here's Matt Cutts describing what's good/bad about this practice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIn5qJKU8VM
Hope that helps!

Duplicated page titles
Dear friends, We have a problem which occurs on our page with duplicated page titles. Landlords are posting rooms on our page and most of them are giving the same name to the rooms and after that, we are getting more and more duplicated page titles. We are applying random whit this title tag: Accommodation for students in {city.name}: {name}. English title

Titling and H1 Tag Question
What to do if you have hundreds of thousands of a particular product. Comic Books for example. Is it ok to have the words Comic Book in the title and H1 tag as long as it is qualified? For example, if I have the following as both the Title tag and the H1 tag. Comic Book - Spider Man Versus Wolverine Comic Book - Silver Surfer Goes Home to Visit Mom. Comic Book - Superman Gets a New Kitten Comic Book - Wonder Woman is More Wonderful Than You Know As of now, I have been doing it this way, but only in the title tag. However, Google has been using my H1 tag as my title, so in the search results, I am only getting: "Superman Gets a New Kitten" And I am afraid that that is leaving out important info for searchers, especially qualifying that the product is a Comic Book and if someone is searching for a Comic Book, I need that to return. But I don't want any 'more' trouble from the Panda. Again, this will be hundreds of thousands of products. Thanks for your help! Craig

Duplicate Content for Event Pages
Hi Folks, I have event pages for specific training courses running on certain dates, the problem I have is that MOZ indicates that I have 1040 duplicate content issues because I'm serving pages like this https://purplegriffon.com/event/2521/mop-practitioner I'm not sure how best to go about resolving this as, of course, although each event is unique in terms of it's start date, the courses and locations could be identical. Will Google penalise us for these types of pages, or will they even index them? Should I add a canonical link to the head of the document pointing to the related course page such as https://purplegriffon.com/courses/project-management/mop-management-of-portfolios/mop-practitioner. Will this solve the issue? I'm a little stuck on what to do for the best. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. Kind Regards Gareth Daine

Duplicate Content - Delete it or NoIndex?
Last month I realized that one of my freelancers had been feeding my website with copied / spun content and sadly, there's lots of it. And of course it got my website to be hit hard by the last Panda update. Now that I've identified the content, what the best thing to do? Should I delete it permanently and get 404 errors or should I set the pages' robot meta tag to "nofollow"?

Site Wide Link
I have just run up the link explorer on my site and discovered that every page home page link points back with the text home - I assume this is bad in terms of SEO , my site name is ccie and I assumed that it put the site wide link of ccie to the entire site, however it seems to be the breadcrumb default of home which is doing it/. www.rogerperkin.co.uk/ccie Should I be looking to change this so my top keyword points back from each page to the home page. I am running wordpress and assumed the site name was the home link on all pages. Can anyone advise the best practice? Thanks
