How to tell Google My Business what area is local to my company?
-
Hello Mozers
I've been stumped by the changes in the interface with Google My Business. I used to be able to set up the area for which I wanted a business to cover. Now I can't find anyway to tell Google.
The company I work for is in St Albans and our main workload is London. It would be helpful if I could actually control what Google Local sees as Local for my company, i.e. to encompass central London which is only 19 miles away.
Can someone give me an idiots guide has to how to tell Google the area I'd like our local listing to cover?
Thanks

Good morning (my time) Miriam
I'm just writing to say, thank you so very very much!
Finally I've got my head around it. I was so stumped before you gave me those clear instructions.
Finally I've got our GMB page to cover both St Albans and London!
Thank you again
Kind regards
A much relieved Catherine

Hi Catherine!
Thanks for saying that. I want to be sure you are following exactly these steps.
-
Be sure you are in the GMB dash for the specific business and are clicking the big red edit button that's over that large header background image at the top.
-
Then, click the edit/pencil icon next to the address
-
Then, be sure to use the scroll bar on the side of the popup to scroll down to the 'I deliver goods and services' text with the little radio buttons. That's where you need to be.
Can you get there? If that is totally absent, I recommend contacting Google directly about this.

You are quite correct, that option has gone in my part of the world, St Albans, Hertfordshire, UK. I'm really stumped as to what to do! I just has my location as St Albans and doesn't as far as I can see allow me to give our service area! Mostly we supply secondary glazing to London for acoustic insulation.
Let me know if I need to give you any additional information and thank you for offering to help - I've read a lot of your tutorials on Local in the past and they have been really helpful!

Hi Catherine!
Can you let me know, please, if Google has made a dashboard change in your country? Can you no longer set a service radius via the command that says, "I deliver goods and services to," and then has a field for you to enter cities or zip codes?

Business Citation Issue
Hey Experts, I have a website which is providing local business services to US clients. For this purpose, I have created the separate landing pages for each client. Now my question is that I have done citation for that particular landing page not for the root domain. Now the client has decided to stop working with us and I removed the business name and detail from that landing page but the landing page still exist on dummy business name. But citation of that business page still exists. Then how that business citation can affect that linked page? I mean it will affect the page ranking or Google trust or relevancy?

How do I measure the results of my local spam crackdown?
I've recently been cracking down on some spammy listings. How do I measure the success? Can I only do so with a third party tool like Moz? Thanks!

Google My Business marker/pin - Do I have control over moving it?
I am working with a country club. We opened the Google my business account and Moz Local. i think the developer/builder of the Country Club planned on the address being in different place than it is today. Do I have control over moving that marker on this massive property. Or, is this done at the city/county level? The marker isn't quite near the building or the true entrance to the country club.

How to perform a search as though you are in a local city
Hi community. So I live in Dubai but have a lot of clients in the UK that want local SEO. Does anyone have any tips on performing search queries in Google that reflect a true search results page as though that search was being performed in a chosen UK city? say if I wanted to see the SERPs for "hairdressers" in the city of Bristol in the UK, at the moment I get a pretty vague UK SERP from With lots of Dubai based adverts et. Any tips would be great, thanks

Not all business locations showing for a brand search
I've got a client with multiple business locations however when I type the company name into Google it's only displaying 2/3 of the branches in the local pack for that SERP. The client's picked up on this and would like the third location to appear in the local pack when people search for their company name. I have a suspicion that it's because the third location (the one that isn't displaying) has an address that's exactly the same as several other businesses that are located in offices directly above or to the side of them. My (very flakey) theory is that Google is perhaps uncertain about the exact location of this business given that there are several others with the same address but different business names, so the NAP consistency is being diluted and Google is simply leaving them out of the local pack due to the uncertainty over which business is in fact located at 2 West Street. So my question is, has anyone else had any issues of not all business locations showing in the local pack for a brand name query and if so how did you solve it?

Local Citation Building Services Similar to Yext
I have several clients looking for local submission services similar to Yext (since they are already subsribers). Can anyone suggest a service similar to Yext for an SBO. Likewise, do any of you know any local citation services that are similar to Yext, but specifically for the hotel/hospitality industry? I was considering localeze.com, but I'm skeptical because I believe the citations I will be getting there will be similar to the ones I'm getting on Yext. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Local search results question
Hello, I wonder if anyone can help. I have a client who is based outside the main city that he is wanting to rank in. The address on his website is his own home which is about 20 miles from the city. However, he services the city and the surrounding area. His ranking for the very competitive keyword is on page 2 and won't budge. We have made his Google+ page show the servicing area to include the city. We add new content regularly. The onsite SEO is strong and the city name is in the Title and H1 tags. We have lots of local consistent citations for him. This usually results in movement in the SERPS in my experience. But after 3 months this keyword is stuck whilst his other less competitive keywords are moving up. He is ranking 1st for the local area to his home address for the competitive keyword. So my question is - is this purely a result of his local address. Does Google rate him less local than his competitors who have addresses in the city even after we do a lot of citation building etc for him? Will it be possible to rank him for the city? I know 3 months isn't long but still would expect to see some difference. Anyone got any thoughts?
