Can my affiliate subdomain hurt in any way?
-
Hello everyone,
My main website is:
http://www.virtualsheetmusic.com
Whereas the above site's related "affiliate" website is located on the subdomain below:
http://affiliates.virtualsheetmusic.com
I was wondering if having that "affiliate section" on a subdomain could affect the main website negatively in some way... or would be better to put it in a sub-folder on the main website, or even on a totally different domain.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

sub-domain vs folder - here is a whiteboard friday about the differences: https://mza.seotoolninja.com/blog/subdomains-vs-subfolders-rel-canonical-vs-301-how-to-structure-links-optimally-for-seo-whiteboard-friday
In your case i'd put it in subfolder

Thank you guys, your answer really clarified everything. No black hat, and no spam, absolutely. We should be ok then. I got confused when I read articles around (Randy also wrote something about it) where suggested to get rid of sub domains and put everything in sub-folders instead, but I guess that was just to benefit of link equity toward the main domain, otherwise wasted in the sub-domain... right?

Hello Fabrizio,
Just to add (and trying to add more information) to what Dimitii said.
Remember that subdomains are treated as separate sites, from the main domain. So if you're not in any black hay SEO or spammy tecniques, you shouldn't have any issues. Also, there will be no problem with sharing some links with the main site, as a internal linking.
Best Luck.

Howdy.
Is this affiliate program spammy or tricky in any way? if not, meaning that everything is straight forward, no link exchange or any black hat seo, there won't be any repercussions. Many companies have affiliate programs which are true part of their business model, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Can I data highlight pages that already have schema?
Hi all, I have pages with schema on but there are some gaps. Rather than ask my dev team / wait for the changes to be made, can I use the data highlighting tool in GSC to fill in these gaps? Will it let me add these and will Google generally consider both the schema and the highlighted data? To note, if I have used GSC to highlight data and then test it in Google's Structured Markup Test Tool it won't show so I understand it may be difficult to test whether it's working or not. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Moving blog to a subdomain, how can I help it rank?
Hi all, We recently moved our blog to a sub-domain where it is hosted on Wordpress. It was very recent and we're actively working on the SEO, but any pointers on getting the subdomain to rank higher than the old blog posts would be terrific. Thanks!

Dev Subdomain Pages Indexed - How to Remove
I own a website (domain.com) and used the subdomain "dev.domain.com" while adding a new section to the site (as a development link). I forgot to block the dev.domain.com in my robots file, and google indexed all of the dev pages (around 100 of them). I blocked the site (dev.domain.com) in robots, and then proceeded to just delete the entire subdomain altogether. It's been about a week now and I still see the subdomain pages indexed on Google. How do I get these pages removed from Google? Are they causing duplicate content/title issues, or does Google know that it's a development subdomain and it's just taking time for them to recognize that I deleted it already?

What are the best ways to fix 404 errors?
I recently changed the url of my main blog and now have about 100 404 errors. I did a redirect from the old url to the new one however still have errors. 1. Should I do a 301 redirect from each old blog post url to the new blog post url? 2. Should I just delete the old blog post (url) and rewrite the blog post? I"m not concerned about links to the old posts as a lot of them do not have many links.

Block an entire subdomain with robots.txt?
Is it possible to block an entire subdomain with robots.txt? I write for a blog that has their root domain as well as a subdomain pointing to the exact same IP. Getting rid of the option is not an option so I'd like to explore other options to avoid duplicate content. Any ideas?
