Error Code 612 with Squarespace
-
Hi Moz community,
I'm getting an apparent error code 612 on my homepage. I've checked my robot.txt file with https://httpstatus.io/ as well as https://webmaster.yandex.com/ like others have suggested, but they are both showing nothing wrong. Is this something to do with square space? Is it incompatible with Moz? My site is https://brownbox.caThanks.
-
I also use squarespace and got the same 612 error code for my homepage today. www.riverrunnersusa.com. When MOZ crawled it for the first time the other day it didn't have a problem so I am wondering if it is something different that is causing the error for my site. Any ideas?
Thanks
Sarah

SquareSpace doesn't play along nicely with Moz. I first contacted SquareSpace about this, a year ago, here's their reply:
"Thanks for reaching out!
I'm sorry for the troubles with this. Our developers have this as a known issue and are working on a fix with Moz, they're aware of the issue as well and looking to update their system so we do not block them.
I've marked this message for follow up and we'll let you know as soon as this is resolved.
I apologize for the inconvenience of this and thank you for your patience...."
Then, some months later, this:
"Thanks for getting back to us, and re-opening this dialoge. I'm happy to get a status check running for you here.
Now, I am able to see that our engineers and Moz's were working on this together, and it looks like they made progress, but most of that conversation happens away from Customer Care.
With that in mind, can you reply to this email, and let me know if you are still experiencing this? I'm guessing probably so, but I just need to confirm that, before next steps here. Also, can you let me know which of your sites are affected by this?"
I await their update 6 months on...
I'm afraid to say that this issue led to me shelving Moz for a while. However, after much encouragement, I got my SquareSpace clients to move over to another CMS, so I'm back. Hurrah!
I also spoke to a Moz staff member a week or so ago and they are aware of an issue and can offer a workaround of sorts, but you will still be limited to which tools will function correctly with SquareSpace.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for the prompt reply, will send an email now! I'll share results if I get any

Hey there!
Thanks of reaching out, Jo from the Moz help team here.
This is most likely a Squarespace issue as they automatically block our bots from the robots.txt and if rogerbot can't get to the robots.txt then the crawling stops. Please pop an email over to [email protected] and we can check this is definitely the cause and get a workaround in place for you.
Cheers!
Jo

Solved Duplicate content error affecting 142 pages
Hello,
Product Support | | EISMarketing
Recently I noticed a new duplicate error notification.
This page: https://www.earley.com/insights/internet-things-and-product-data
is flagged as 'duplicate content' with 142 affected pages.
Here's an example of one of the affected pages:
https://www.earley.com/insights/how-ontologies-drive-digital-transformation
This is not an ecommerce site. The affected pages are blog posts. We are pretty prolific writers and over the years we have produced nearly 300 articles. We are a consulting firm and the articles are about our area of expertise and cover a wide range of topics within that space.
I just don't understand why this would be flagged as duplicate or what I'm supposed to do with this information!
Help!
Thanks!

Crawl error robots.txt
Hello, when trying to access the site crawl to be able to analyze our page, the following error appears: **Moz was unable to crawl your site on Nov 15, 2017. **Our crawler was banned by a page on your site, either through your robots.txt, the X-Robots-Tag HTTP header, or the meta robots tag. Update these tags to allow your page and the rest of your site to be crawled. If this error is found on any page on your site, it prevents our crawler (and some search engines) from crawling the rest of your site. Typically errors like this should be investigated and fixed by the site webmaster. Can help us? Thanks!

Receiving 4XX status codes
_Can someone help explain this error and the best fix for it. The host says the script maybe looking for an SSL but that made low/no sense. Your input it greatly appreciated. 4XX status codes (i.e., a 404 Not Found error) are shown when the client requests a page that cannot be accessed. This is usually the result of a bad or broken link. These issues should be kept to a minimum if possible. Make sure no internal links on your site are broken. For external links to your site, try contacting the linking site's owner and asking them to fix or update the link. _

HTTPS (SSL) Error Encountered.
Hi guys, We received the following error from our Moz report, our hosting companies says it's isn't an issue but I wanted to get your feedback as it seems a bit odd. We recently moved eventfull.co.nz to a VPS and setup an EV SSL. We moved another site to the same VPS and added EV SSL and it isn't reporting any issue. Hosting companies feedback below error message | Crawl Error Error Code 804: HTTPS (SSL) Error Encountered Your page requires an SSL security certificate to load (using HTTPS), but the Moz Crawler encountered an error when trying to load the certificate. Our crawler is pretty standard, so it's likely that other browsers and crawlers may also encounter this error. If you have this error on your homepage, it prevents the Moz crawler (and some search engines) from crawling the rest of your site. | | I am just running some tests on the SSL cert installation now, but so far all appears to be fine. I've checked your .htaccess file and there is nothing that should be blocking them, and the logs show nothing unexpected or any SSL failures. SSL Labs test returns an A rating with no errors. One possibility (though, it's a long shot) is that we never increased the HSTS time beyond 3600, so it's possible that the crawler is failing because of this perceived insecurity. However, if there is some other issue going on, increasing the HSTS time would be a bad idea, so I suggest some further monitoring and testing. You may need to contact Moz about the issue and see if they can help. Is there any other evidence of SSL failing to load? Have you experienced any other issues, or is it only the Moz report that is indicating any problem? |

Moz Campaign Error
A lot of links seem to be broken or glitching with the Moz Campaigns dashboard. For whatever reason moz decided to archive my campaigns without permission. It then will not let me activate them again, forcing me to recreate them. When I go to the campaigns page, it will not show me my active campaigns, including ones that I have just made and it is impossible to get to them unless I save the campaign id and manually navigate to it in the browser. This has been tested on every web browser, so it is not some kind of user error or browser thing on my end. How can I get to my active campaigns since Moz will not show them to me?
