Can improving page authority on all pages help overall domain auth?
-
Our website is made up of approx 4000 pages - some of which are old pages with a pa of 1.
I am removing these pages (ensuring they don't have links etc). Can removing so many low scoring and useless pages impact on domain authority.
Our DA jumped 4 points and i wondered if this was helping
Example
4000 pages in total
2500 have PA 1 - these get removed
will it look better for DA that overall there are now no pages where PA =1 and the site now contains higher PA pages only?
-
Hi Ria,
thanks for your reply, yes i am pruning out the bad pages, however i am looking at many factors not just PA. So seems i am on the right track and will continue

Thanks JO,
Yes i just wondered if it could impact over da also. I am carrying out this task as the pages are poor so will continue regardless, but just thought "i wonder if ..."

HI Thomas,
Oh don't worry i am removing them to improve the site for many reasons not simply moz metrics.
I simply wondered if it would have an effect on this also.

Hi Gemma,
I would agree with these answers from Thomas and Ria, and I would add that the Domain Authority calculation is based on dozens of factors includes link counts, MozRank and MozTrust scores etc, it's not just a tally of the authority of all your pages.
https://mza.seotoolninja.com/learn/seo/domain-authority
I usually use high PA to help guide me towards pages that I want to action fixes on, for example missing title tags or any other errors highlighted through the site crawl. However I would be careful inverting this to cull pages with PA 1 without further assessing their value.
I hope this helps!

Seems you're on the right track, but I wouldn't pay too close attention to the PA and instead focus on culling the pages that offer no value to the user. The pages that are perhaps duplicate content, or can be merged with another page to create a stronger, more relevant page. Reducing or pruning the number of thin pages to maximise the value and quality of the pages you keep will help with the overall health of your website.
If you only look at PA, then you may end up getting rid of a potentially valuable page that simply didn't have the opportunity to perform well before.

Stop trying to sculpt your site to get a better DA, ultimately Moz's DA and PA are metrics, you shouldn't be changing your site around these purely. Instead what you need to be doing it trying to tweak your site to what's best for the user. Do these pages add value to the site and if not what can you do to improve them, if they can't be improved then remove them.
The key metric you should be looking at is the number of visitors that you are getting.

Domain Authority (DA) in Moz Pro changed only within the last 1-2 months?
Has anyone noticed that the Domain Authority (DA) as reported in Moz Pro has changed only within the last 1-2 months? We have screen shots showing plots of DA vs competitors w/ line graph 2 months ago starting in NOV 2017 which today starting JAN 2018 and comparing shows DA up to 50% different!

The change is seen both in the Links Overview and under the Spam Score sections still marked "NEW". Can Moz confirm that it's only recently within the last 2 months that in Moz Pro the NEW DA numbers have retroactively been updated even though the new Link Explorer has been publicly out since APR 30 from https://mza.seotoolninja.com/community/q/moz-s-new-link-explorer-including-our-revamped-index-and-da-pa-scores-is-now-open-to-everyone? Look at the top green line starting ~12 months ago on both graphs, w/ old below 40 and new above 50. We've seen even greater differences for other tracked domains. Thanks! view0 -

How can I get links indexed in Just Discovered Links, or Open site Explorer? (Because it aint Bit.ly or Feedly!)
Dear Moz & Forum, I've been on a bit of a merry-go-round with one of my clients. He knows enough about SEO to ask questions, and one thing he likes is to see the links that we are building inside Open Site Explorer. Now, of course we know that it takes a while for links to show, but that was ok, because we could just plug the links that we've built into a bit.ly link and then they'd show under Just Discovered Links in Open Site Explorer, and then boom, we're happy. It stopped working some time ago, and after the support team were a little unstuck I sent a hopeful tweet to @randfish. Here is the response: https://twitter.com/randfish/status/788412272129347584 The advice to use Bit.Ly was removed swiftly after this! Oops! The current Guidance is here: https://mza.seotoolninja.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer/justdiscovered It says: Want to see your new link in the Just-Discovered Links tab? An easy way to start seeing your link in the Just-Discovered section is to have it shared on Twitter and available on Feedly link. Feedly stopped supporting their own link shortner a few years ago. Also, when you share a link from Feedly on twitter it is just the same as sharing a normal tweet, because it shares the standard URL for the site not a link to view on Feedly. Or, maybe these two statements are independant of one another and they should both be done separately? I've done that too! I've also added the feed to recommended feeds inside fresh web explorer and that didn't work either! So, Moz and Help team please help me! How can I get links I've built for clients into Just Discovered Links? Thank you!

[No Title] for all Top Pages at Open Site Explorer
49 out of the top 50 pages of the domain www.parallels.com shows [No Title]. I find this to be a major concern. Pages have long been established, title tags haven't changed recently. Am seeing a fair amount of 301 and 404s showing up, but actual OK 200 pages still showing [No Title]. Also seeing some decreases in organic search traffic at Google. Might there be a correlation?

How can Ahrefs be better than OSE ?
Dear Sirs and Contributors, I know this question is going to cause revolution, but I am paying for a subscription to moz every single month and I see that Open Site Explorer doesn't find baacklinks for some of my new clients when aHrefs can find more than 16 !! Why is this ? How can a free tool like ahrefs give me more information than OSE for which I pay for ? ;-(

Page Authority Migration
PageA.html has a lot of links and has a Page Authority score. It is 301 redirected to PageB.html and eventually in OSE this also accumulates a Page Authority score. Is there a reason why PageA.html many months/years after continues to have a Page Authority when it is expected that its Authority signals have migrated (with any dampening effect etc) across to PageB.html.

Page Authority dropped to 1 for subdirectory in my site
Hey, one of my sites https://www.automationanywhere.com/testing has had all it's pages drop to a page authority of 1 in Moz and the campaign doesnt appear to be indexing any pages from this directory. We launched a new site in this directory on the 12th and havent been getting any moz love since. The pages are indexable and followable, and are being indexed by google and others. The site on the root domain has been unaffected. Please help me get my moz campaign back on track. Thanks!

Can anyone explain the cause of having root domain metrics much smaller than subdomain metrics?
Hi!! I'm comparing OSE metrics for a site named like www.mydomain.com and have the following results: Subdomain MozTrust 5.65 (that is www.mydomain.com subdomain) Root domain MozTrust 0.82 (that is mydomain.com domain) On the other hand one of my competitor have: Subdomain MozTrust 3.68 (that is www.otherdomain.com subdomain) Root domain MozTrust 3.67 (that is otherdomain.com domain) Both websites' root domains point to the www subdomain. So how come in my domain theres is such a huge difference between these metrics and on the competitor's site both values are very similar? I'd greatly appreciate any comment on this. Cheers, David
