What would cause my structured data items to drop off?
-
I have about 20,000 items on my Magento Site. I used a plugin to add structured data. If I use the Webmaster Tools Structured Data Tester everything shows up perfect. There are no errors on any page that I have spot checked.
My total items increased to about 2500, but has now started dropping. The numbers have dropped to about 725 over the last few weeks. What can I check?
-
Crawl stats are improving if anything. The last few weeks our pages crawled per day increased and our total indexed pages has steadily been increasing.
-
Hmm interesting, do you see any changes in your crawl stats or the number of indexed pages?
-
Nope. I didn't touch anything at all, that is why it is throwing me off.
-
Hi Tyler,
Do you see any changes in specific Schemas?
Martijn.

Stuctured data for different sized packages
Hi all, We are currently working on implementing structured data to our webshop, for SEO and for google shopping. We sell stones, pebbles, gravel etc. (to be used in gardens).We offer each product in different sized bags. Customers can buy 20KG minibags, 250KG minibags, 500KG midibags, 1500KG bigbags and bulk quantities (ranging from 3000KG up to 35000KG). For example, we sell Black Beach Pebbles in the bags as described as above (+ the bulk quantities). We have a product page for these Black Beach Pebbles and on that product page customers can choose the desired bag or desired bulk quantity. For google shopping, visitors land on these productpages. A while back that caused a problem; the landing page contained different prices so sometimes google could not match the prices on the landing page with the prices in our productfeed (because of course, each bag has a different price). So, besides SEO, another reason for us to implement structured data. I have two questions regarding the implementation. 1. For the landing page as described above, the idea now is to mark 1 product with different offers (an offer for each bag + an offer for the bulk quantities). This raises a problem regarding the bulk quantities; the price of the bulk quantity depends on the chosen quantity (customers can pick the desired bulk quantity using a dropdown) on the productpage. How should we markup the price? The idea know is to markup 1 product with different offers for each bag and 1 aggregate offer for the bulk quantities (and using the lowest price, so the price for the smallest bulk quantity). So, for the Black Beach pebbles: Product = Black beach Pebbles
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | AMAGARD
Offer (= 20KG minibag)
Price = ...
Offer (= 250KG minibag)
Price = ...
Offer (= 500KG midibag)
Price = ...
Offer (= 1500KG bigbag)
Price = ...
AggregateOffer (= Bulk quantities)
Lowprice = ... Is combining Offer and AggregateOffer within 1 product the right solution? 2. For the 1500KG Bigbags and bulk quantities we have separate landing pages (because people specifically search for bigbags and bulk quantities). So those landing pages are dedicated to bigbags / bulk quantities. How should we mark up those pages? Should we for example just do this: On the page for te bigbag:
Product = Black Beach Pebbles 1500KG bigbag
Offer (=Black Beach Pebbles 1500KG bigbag)
Price =.... and on the page for the bulk quantities: Product = Black Beach Pebbles bulk quantities
AggregateOffer (=Black Beach Pebbles bulk quantities)
Lowprice=...... Could that cause any confusion for google, because on the productpage with all the available bags, the bigbag is an offer for the product 'Beach Pebbles Black'. And on the second page it is a product on its own. Thanks in advance! Best!1 -
What's the best URL structure?
I'm setting up pages for my client's website and I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. Which of the following would be best (let's say the keywords being used are "sell xgadget" "sell xgadget v1" "sell xgadget v2" "sell xgadget v3" etc.). Domain name: sellgadget.com Potential URL structures: 1. sellxgadget.com/v1
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Zing-Marketing
2. sellxgadget.com/xgadget-v1
3. sellxgadget.com/sell-xgadget-v1 Which would be the best URL structure? Which has the least risk of being too keyword spammy for an EMD? Any references for this?0 -

Ranking dropped off massively: 25 August
HI have been working on the site http://www.schoolguide.co.uk/ we had something odd happen around the 25 of August our ranking just tanked. Now there was no warning in webmaster tools. Moz weather forecast didn't show anything crazy. We didn't do anything major to site. The site lost pretty much all it's long tail ranking and about 5% of the indexed pages. What could cause this? The only thing of prominence we did was get a link from huffington post article. Thanks again everyone Ed

Unexplained Drop In Ranking and Traffic-HELP!
I operate a real estate web site in New York City (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com). It was hit by Penguin in April 2012, with search volume falling from 6,800 per month in March 2012 to 3,300 by June 2012. After refreshing content and changing the theme, volume recovered to 4,300 per month in October 2013. There was a big improvement in early October 2013, perhaps tied to a Panda update. In November 2013 I hired an SEO company. They are reputable; on MOZ's recommended list. After following all their suggestions (searching and removing duplicate content, disavowing toxic links, improving the site structure to make it easier for Google to index listings, re-writing ten key landing pages, improving the design of the user interface) ranking and traffic started to decline in April of 2014 and crashed in June 2014 after an upgraded design with improved user interface was launched. Search volume is went from 4700 in March to around 3800 in June. However ranking on the keywords that generate conversions has really declined, and clicks from those terms are down at least 65%. My online business is severely compromised after I have spent almost double the anticipated budget to improve ranking and conversion. A few questions: 1. Could a drop in the number of domains lining to our site have led to this decline? About 30 domains that had toxic links to us agreed to remove them. We had another 70 domains disavowed in late April. We only have 78 domains pointing to our domain now, far less than before (see attached AHREFs image). It seems there is a correlation in the timeline between the number of domains pointing to us and ranking performance. The number of domains pointing to us has never been this low. Could this be causing the drop? My SEO firm believes that the quality of these links are very low and the fact that many are gone is in fact a plus. 2. The number of indexed pages has jumped to 851 from 675 in early June (see attached image from Google Webmaster tools), right after a site upgrade. The number of pages in the site map is around 650. Could the indexation of the extra 175 page somehow have diluted the quality of the site in Google's eyes? We have filed removal request for these pages in Mid June and again last week with Google but they still appear. In 2013 we also launched an upgrade and Google indexed an extra 500 pages (canonical tags were not set up correctly) and search volume and ranking collapsed. Oddly enough when the number of pages indexed by Google fell, ranking improved. I wonder if something similar has occurred. 3. May 2014 Panda update. Many of our URLs are product URLs of listings. They have less than 100 words. Could Google suddenly be penalizing us for that? It is very difficult to write descriptions of hundreds of words for products that change quickly. I would think the Google takes this into account. If someone could present some insight into this issue I would be very, very grateful. I have spent over $25,000 on SEO reports, wireframe design and coding and now find myself in a worse position than when I started. My SEO provider is now requesting that I purchase even more reports for several thousand dollars and I can't afford it, nor can I justify it after such poor results. I wish they would take it upon themselves to identify what went wrong. In any case, if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I am very suspicious that this drop started in earnest at the time of link removal and the disavow and accelerated at the time of the launch of the upgrade. Url structure of a blog
We are trying to work out what the best structure for our blog is as we want each page to rank as highly as possible, we were looking at a flat structure similar to http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/ where every posts is after the blog/ but not in category's although the viewers can look in different category's from the top buttons on the page- photoshop - icons etc or we where going to go for the structured way- blog/photoshop/blog-post.html the only problem is that we will end up 4 deep at least with this and at least 80 characters in the url. any help would be appreciated. Thanks Shaun

Dynamic 301's causing duplicate content
Hi, wonder if anyone can help? We have just changed our site which was hosted on IIS and the page url's were like this ( example.co.uk/Default.aspx?pagename=About-Us ). The new page url is example.co.uk/About-Us/ and is using Apache. The 301's our developer told us to use was in this format: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/Default.aspx$
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | GoGroup51
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^pagename=About-Us$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.co.uk/About-Us/ [R=301,L] This seemed to work from a 301 point of view; however it also seemed to allow both of the below URL's to give the same page! example.co.uk/About-Us/?pagename=About-Us example.co.uk/About-Us/ Webmaster Tools has now picked up on this and is seeing it a duplicate content. Can anyone help why it would be doing this please. I'm not totally clued up and our host/ developer cant understand it too. Many Thanks0 -
My homepage dropped off of Google today? Any ideas?
My site, www.leaffilter.com, previously ranked #1 for searches of "leaffilter" and "leaf filter". Today the #1 ranking for "leaffilter" with Google is gone. Well, it's not gone on all internet connection. At home the #1 ranking is in place. At the office computer it is not anywhere near page 1. I'm testing searches logged in, not logged in, cache and cookies cleared, different browsers. Other, secondary pages, are appearing on page 1. It looks as if the homepage is just no longer indexed...but not on all internet connection. Any ideas what is happening? Does anyone have any troubleshooting tips?
