Sitemap Indexed Pages, Google Glitch or Problem With Site?
-
Hello,
I have a quick question about our Sitemap Web Pages Indexed status in Google Search Console. Because of the drastic drop I can't tell if this is a glitch or a serious issue.
When you look at the attached image you can see that under Sitemaps Web Pages Indexed has dropped suddenly on 3/12/17 from 6029 to 540.
Our Index status shows 7K+ indexed.
Other than product updates/additions and homepage layout updates there have been no significant changes to this website. If it helps we are operating on the Volusion platform.
Thanks for your help!

One last update
Both sitemaps now only show 1320 indexed pages each or 2640 total. So the non secure urls in the xml sitemap did fall off a few days after submitting them.
The site is still fully indexed in google but overall impression share has fallen according to GSC. GA shows slight increases in overall organic traffic.

Just wanted to pass on an update.
The XML sitemap file with all HTTP urls is showing that 95% of the urls are indexed under Sitemaps Web Pages Indexed.
Not sure if we should have two identical Sitemaps submitted with the only difference being https vs http. Any reason for me not to have both submitted.

Hey Oleg,
Thanks for responding.
When I checked Google everything is still there, or at least we have 8K+ urls still in googles index. Traffic from organic is still good but impressions have declined a bit, nothing major.
I did call Volusion (our cart host) to ask when they switched from http to https links in the sitemap.asp file and they, A: couldn't give me that information, or B: Didn't quite understand my question. However they did say that they are aware of some platform technical issues regarding canonical tags and an http to https redirect issue which they are working on but have no date of completion, nor would they tell me when these issues came about. They said these errors have nothing to do with what I'm seeing in GSC but I have a hunch it does.
What I'm going to do is submit a second sitemap in XML which has all http links to see if that one shows any differently in GSC.

If the website is still indexed in google (search site:domain.com to see how many pages are indexed), then you might have a canonical URL/sitemap mismatch. e.g. your sitemap has urls site.com/Page-A/ but the canonical url is site.com/page-a/.. Google would still index your site but the # of urls indexed from the sitemap would drop. Another example is your sitemap urls are http but the website is actually https.
Thats the only thing that I can think of (aside from GSC bug) that would cause a drop.

Google Is Indexing my 301 Redirects to Other sites
Long story but now i have a few links from my site 301 redirecting to youtube videos or eCommerce stores. They carry a considerable amount of traffic that i benefit from so i can't take them down, and that traffic is people from other websites, so basically i have backlinks from places that i don't own, to my redirect urls (Ex. http://example.com/redirect) My problem is that google is indexing them and doesn't let them go, i have tried blocking that url from robots.txt but google is still indexing it uncrawled, i have also tried allowing google to crawl it and adding noindex from robots.txt, i have tried removing it from GWT but it pops back again after a few days. Any ideas? Thanks!

Google Indexing Stopped
Hello Team, A month ago, Google was indexing more than 2,35,000 pages, now has reduced to 11K. I have cross-checked almost everything including content, backlinks and schemas. Everything is looking fine, except the server response time, being a heavy website, or may be due to server issues, the website has an average loading time of 4 secs. Also, I would like to mention that I have been using same server since I have started working on the website, and as said above a month ago the indexing rate was more than 2.3 M, now reduced to 11K. nothing changed. As I have tried my level best on doing research for the same, so please if you had any such experiences, do share your valuable solutions to this problem.

Best way to link to 1000 city landing pages from index page in a way that google follows/crawls these links (without building country pages)?
Currently we have direct links to the top 100 country and city landing pages on our index page of the root domain.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lcourse
I would like to add in the index page for each country a link "more cities" which then loads dynamically (without reloading the page and without redirecting to another page) a list with links to all cities in this country.
I do not want to dillute "link juice" to my top 100 country and city landing pages on the index page.
I would still like google to be able to crawl and follow these links to cities that I load dynamically later. In this particular case typical site hiearchy of country pages with links to all cities is not an option. Any recommendations on how best to implement?0 -
How long to re-index a page after being blocked
Morning all! I am doing some research at the moment and am trying to find out, just roughly, how long you have ever had to wait to have a page re-indexed by Google. For this purpose, say you had blocked a page via meta noindex or disallowed access by robots.txt, and then opened it back up. No right or wrong answers, just after a few numbers 🙂 Cheers, -Andy

Best practice to prevent pages from being indexed?
Generally speaking, is it better to use robots.txt or rel=noindex to prevent duplicate pages from being indexed?

Merging Sites: Will redirecting the old homepage to an internal page on the new site cause issues?
I've ended up with two sites which have similar content (but not duplicate) and target similar keywords, rather than trying to maintain two sites I would like to merge the sites together. The old site is more of a traditional niche site and targets a particular set of keywords on its homepage, the new site is more of an authority site with a magazine type homepage and targets the same set of keywords from an internal page. My question is: Should I redirect the old site's homepage to the relevant internal page on the new website...
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lara_dar
...or should I redirect the old site's homepage to the new site's homepage? (the old site's homepage backlinks are a mixture of partial match keyword anchor text, naked URLs and branded anchor text) I am in two minds (a & b!) (a) Redirecting to the internal page would be great for ranking as there are some decent backlinks and the content is similar (b) But usually when you do a 301 redirect the homepage usually directs to the new homepage and some of the old site's links are related to the domain rather than the keyword (e.g. http://www.site.com) and some people will be looking for the site's homepage. What do you think? Your help is much appreciated (and hope this makes sense...!)0 -
Will pages irrelevant to a site's core content dilute SEO value of core pages?
We have a website with around 40 product pages. We also have around 300 pages with individual ingredients used for the products and on top of that we have some 400 pages of individual retailers which stock the products. Ingredient pages have same basic short info about the ingredients and the retail pages just have the retailer name, adress and content details. Question is, should I add noindex to all the ingredient and or retailer pages so that the focus is entirely on the product pages? Thanks for you help!
