Image redirection: Will it helps or hurts?

Hi all,

There are some old images (non-existing now) from our website which have backlinks. We would like to redirect them to some live images to reclaim the backlinks. Is this Okay or sounds suspicious to Google?

Hi there,

The less 301's from external sources the better. The situation with 301's is like this: Page A links to page B but page B is redirected to page C (your page). If you reduce the second step (page B), you won't be losing as much link juice and you will make it easier for crawler as well. Reach out to the webmasters of websites which you have the back links from (pages A) try to convince them to link directly to the page C instead of page B.

Hi Martin,

Here I have question about 301 on my mind for long time. We avoid 301 redirects internally which will not cause page slow loading. What about 301 redirects for the links referred from external sources? I mean page A has been mentioned on a external website which has been redirected to page B?

Hi there,

well, with the redirects - you will lose some amount of the link juice but not really a lot (1 - 10%).

However, try to convince the admins of the sites to change URLs to the new ones. It's always better to avoid 301's if you can.

You can redirect all images on a new path. It will not hurt you.

302 query - can someone help

If I were to put 302s on several reasonably ranked landing pages to drive more traffic/conversions for a period of one week to a particular page, would the pages with 302s drop from their positions in the SERPS? And is this a bad idea? I want to try and drive some conversions over the next month for a particular page… Thanks for your help!

Thin Content Pages: Adding more content really help?

Hello all, So I have a website that was hit hard by Panda back in 2012 November, and ever since the traffic continues to die week by week. The site doesnt have any major moz errors (aside from too many on page links). The site has about 2,700 articles and the text to html ratio is about 14.38%, so clearly we need more text in our articles and we need to relax a little on the number of pictures/links we add. We have increased the text to html ratio for all of our new articles that we put out, but I was wondering how beneficial it is to go back and add more text content to the 2,700 old articles that we have just sitting. Would this really be worth the time and investment? Could this help the drastic decline in traffic and maybe even help it grow?

FOR ALL SEO THOUGHT LEADERS...What link building strategies do YOU think will work after the latest 3/29/2012 Google algorithm change? NOTE: My hope is that the responses left on this thread will ultimately benefit all members of the community and give recognition to the true thought leaders within the SEO space. That being said, my challenge is a 2 part question: With the 80/20 rule in mind, and in light of recent algorithm changes, what would YOU focus most of your SEO budget on if you had to choose? Let's assume you're in a competitive market (ie #1-5 on page 1 has competitors with 20,000+ backlinks - all ranging from AC Rank 7 to 1). How would you split your total monthly SEO budget as a general rule? Ex) 60% link building / 10% onsite SEO / 10% Social Media / 20% content creation? I realize there are many "it depends" factors but please humor us anyways. Link building appears to have become harder and harder as google releases more and more algorithm changes. For link building, the only true white hat way of proactively generating links (that I know of) is creating high quality content that adds value to customers (ie infographics, videos, etc.), guest blogging, and Press Releases. The con to these tactics is that you are waiting for others to find and pick up your content which can take a VERY long time, so ROI is difficult to measure and justify to clients or C-level management. That being said, how are YOU allocating your link building budget? Are all of these proactive link building tactics a waste of time now? I've heard it couldn't hurt to still do some of these, but what are your thoughts and what is / isn't working for you? Here they are: A. Using spun articles edited by US based writers for guest blog content B. 301 Redirects C. Social bookmarking D. Signature links from Blog commenting E. Directory submissions F. Video Submissions G. Server Side Java Script Redirects

I would like to use a redirect through a server based Java script to redirect visitors only referenced from a certain site. So let's say anyone clicking on a link to my site page-A from seomoz.org would automatically be redirected to page-B. All other users as well as direct and search engine traffic would only see the regular page A. The reason I am doing this is because the linking site is linking to page A which doesn't serve the user the correct content. Rather than contacting the webmaster to change the link to point to page -B, I want to redirect them. Is there any danger of Google penalizing this for cloaking? and how would they be able to tell?
