Do you outreach to blogs with no recent activity?
-
I have been doing outreach to blogs with some good success. My question (problem) is that many blogs do not update regularly and they may not have a new post within the past year or so.
Is it best to pass on sending them an email or is it worth the time to do it? What is your cutoff point?
Thanks!

As you said, as long as you're adding value then there's no harm in seeking links. As always just make sure they're relevant to your space.
Link building is still a ranking factor so if you're getting a ranking increase on top of clicks and awareness why not actively seek links?

Great tip, thanks for the idea!

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with going for the link if I'm adding value to their website and making a good name for myself in the process. Even if I'm just asking for a link because I think I have something that would be of interest to their visitors I don't see a problem with it.
I appreciate that your strategy may be different than mine but I don't think that everyone has moved on from outreach for linking purposes. For example > https://mza.bundledseo.com/blog/category/link-building or http://backlinko.com/link-building

Good luck! You're SEO strategy is in that case 2-5 years behind if you're doing it just for links. The rest of us have moved on to strategies that do bring company value!

Hey. I agree with what Martijn said that generally, you want to request links from more active sites. Those sites tend to have better overall quality, search performance, and a more active audience. The one thing I'll add is that sometimes you can find blogs that have great evergreen content (good rankings, good links, seem to have decent traffic, etc.) even though they don't have a lot of recent content. In these cases, a link to a relevant page on your site could enhance that evergreen content and sometimes site runners are willing to update old articles (even if they aren't adding anything new). For example, maybe an old blog post on a currently inactive site has a great recap of the best ways to do X (where X is a subject that hasn't changed much in years). You have a page that offers another way to do X or is somehow tightly connected, so including it in that older blog post could be of use to the people who find that old article.

Thanks
Yes, the awareness is nice but the links are what I'm after.

Hey!
So what's your incentive for sending them one? If they're not going to update it, Google will also have noticed that they haven't published anything noteworthy in the last year. Also if you're only doing link building for the links and not for awareness + visits. My guess would be that it's then not worth it with a site that has not been updated.
Martijn.

Pillar pages and blog pages
Hello, I was watching this video about pillar pages https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db3TpDZf_to and tried to apply it to my self but find it impossible to do (but maybe I am looking at it the wrong way). Let's say I want to rank on "Normandy bike tou"r. I created a pillar page about "Normandy bike tour" what would be the topics of the subpages boosting that pillar page. I know that it should be questions people have but in the tourism industry they don't have any, they just want us to make them dream !! I though about doing more general blog pages about things such as : Places to rent a bike in Normandy or in XYZ city ? ( related to biking) Or the landing sites in Normandy ? (not related to biking) Is it the way to do it, what do you recommend ? Thank you,

Recent Penguin Update
Hi SEOMoz, Today www.carrentalbuddy.com.au was hit pretty big by the Penguin 2.0 update (I believe). We had some pretty strong rankings for multiple search terms and we believe we have done everything by the book for Google. We can't seem to figure out why our rankings have dropped so dramatically recently and was hoping that some SEOMoz's could take a quick look to help us fix this problem. Kindest Regards, Chris

Client has been COPYING blog posts to wordpress.com for years. Now what?
Just discovered my client has been copying all her blog posts over to her wordpress.com blog account. So she has duplicate content to what is on her site. She has roughly 700 posts on her main site but doesn't look like that many on the wordpress site. There are no inbound links coming off the wordpress site that I could find. Here's an example: http://thevanillaqueen.wordpress.com/2013/01/30/is-canola-oil-a-healthy-choice/ http://vanilla.com/is-canola-oil-a-healthy-choice/ What are you recommendations for what should be done? Thanks!

Looking for suggestions on email outreach title/content
Hello, We created a "How to choose a product" PDF that we are marketing to resource pages and blogs in four appropriate niches. It's good, unique content that's useful. The PDF has it's own non-commercial page. We will be doing email outreach with buzzstream. Is it important to never ask for a link in the first email? We're offering one of the following four in exchange for the link (they get to choose one): 1. A link back on one of our other sites in the same niche (not reciprocal link) 2. $100 in adwords traffic including up to 20 keywords. 3. Facebook share of their URL 4. Tweet of their URL Let me stop there and see what your feedback is. We're looking for (about) how many emails to send out building relationships before making the above offer. Or is there some way to make the offer immediately? Also, what makes a good subject line? Rand seems to indicate that you can make the offer right away in this whiteboard friday but every other article and video I've watched have said to build a relationship first. Any help is appreciated. We'll be writing all completely custom, researched outreach emails, carefully crafted.

Leveraging interest on a popular blog post, with a new, expanded page on the subject...
On a wordpress site, I have one blog post that performs extremely well for Adsense revenue. But the post is getting older and older, and requires me to place some updates into the article from time to time. It's a blog post, but really feels like more of a reference types page (it's about stocks in a particular industry). Now that I see so many people landing on this page through search (#1 for the term), I'm thinking I really should really develop this information further, and make a reference page out of this information and keep it updated, with a link to it from the nav menu. However, I don't know if it will be bad to have both the reference page and the old post page trying to rank for the same keyword term or not? (They won't be duplicate content, the new page will just the same topic rewritten and expanded). Is that something I can get penalized for? I'm getting very good income off of this existing blog post and don't want to mess it up, but I also know that only keeping this info on a post that's getting older and older is not a good long term plan, and I need to pounce on the interest in the subject matter. So, I see these options: 1. Create the new expanded page, and let Google sort it in the SERPs. 2. Create the new page and redirect the old blog post to the new page. That just doesn't seem right to remove access to my old blog post, though. Which of these is the right thing to do, or is there some way I'm not thinking of?

Putting A Blog On A Sub-Domain The Right Thing To Do?
Going to setup a blog for a 4 year old ecommerce website and was wondering if it would be a good idea to put a blog on the sub domain or just a folder like www.domain.com.au/blog I'll be using the blog to Link bait articles Social bookmark traffic Linking keywords to products on the ecommerce site. I wanted to know if The link juice would be greater if we cross link from sub-domain to main domain? Any major dis-advantages in having it on a sub-domain vs folder? Any other major differences? Cheers!

Best SEO format for a blog page on an ecommerce website.. inc Source Ordered Content
Does anyone know of a page template or code I might want to base a blog on as part of an eccomerce website? I am interested in keeping the look (includes) of the website and paying attention to Source Ordered Content helping crawlers index the new great blogs we have to share. I could just knock up a page with a template from the site but I would like to investigate SOC at this stage as it may benefit us in the long run. Any ideas?

Wordpress blog integration with full website effect on SEO
I have searched and searched for the answer to this question and can't find it. We are going to be launching a Wordpress blog on our domain shortly, however we have a much larger site that is mixed with static and dynamic pages full of custom programming tied to databases, etc. that we are running around the blog and can't integrate that into Wordpress due to its complexity. What this means is we have to install Wordpress on our servers somehow separate from the pages of our website. What I am wondering is if we run Wordpress in the /blog directory of our site as a separate installation if it will inherit the domain authority of our domain (currently around 60) or if it will be viewed as a separate site and get no ranking. Also, will our main site inherit the additional link juice from the inbound links that we get from the blog with it being separate from the main site? How does this need to be setup on our webservers to ensure the blog gets authority of the domain, and the blog contributes maximum SEO value to the domain? Any help would be appreciated.
