How long after https migration that google shows in search console new sitemap being indexed?
-
We migrated 4 days ago to https and followed best practices..
In search console now still 80% of our sitemaps appear as "pending" and among those sitemaps that were processed only less than 1% of submitted pages appear as indexed? Is this normal ?
How long does it take for google to index pages from sitemap?
Before https migration nearly all our pages were indexed and I see in the crawler stats that google has crawled a number of pages each day after migration that corresponds to number of submitted pages in sitemap.Sitemap and crawler stats show no errors.

thanks Stephan.
It took nearly a month for search console to display the majority of our pages in sitemap as indexed, even though pages showed up much earler in SERPs. We had it split down into 30 different sitemaps. Later we published also a sitemap index and saw a nice increase a few days later in indexed pages which may have been related.
Finally google now is indexing 88% of our sitemap.
Do you think in general that 88% is for a site of this size a somehow normal percentage or would you normally expect a higher percentage of indexed sitemap page and investigate deeper for potential pages that google may consider thin content? Navigation I can rule out as a reason. -
Did the "pending" message go away in the end? Unfortunately you're fairly limited in what you can do with this. The message likely indicates/indicated that one of the following was true:
- Google had difficulty accessing the sitemap (though you did say no errors)
- It was taking a long time to do it because of the large number of links
You could try splitting your sitemap up into several smaller ones, and using a sitemap index. Or have you done this already? By splitting it into several sitemaps, you can at least see whether some index and some don't, whether there do turn out to be issues with some of the URLs listed there, etc.
You can also prioritise the most important pages by putting them into their own sitemap (linked to from the sitemap index, of course), and submitting that one first. So at least if everything else takes longer you'll get your most important landing pages indexed.

Update. now 10 days passed since our migration to https and upload of sitemap, still same situation.
-
Google has been crawling all our pages during the last days. I see it in the crawling stats.
My concern is that
- majority of my sitemaps are still showing up as "pending" 3 days after I originally submited the sitemaps.
- those sitemaps that are processed show as indexed only less than 1% of my submitted pages.
We do have around 170.000 pages in our sitemap.
So I wonder wheher this is unusual or normal delay from google search console.

Its difficult to say. It depends on many factors like (importance of your site in Google's eyes, when they crawled your site the last time, relevance of the topic in general, etc.) BUT you can speed up the process a lot, i.e. initiate it on your own. You don't have to wait until Google recrawls your site at random. Did you know?
Go to Search Console - Crawl - Fetch as Google - Add your site's URL or URL of a particular sub page. Press Fetch
Google will recrawl that page again very quickly. When I do that with a particular page (not the entire domain) it usually takes 1-2 days at most to recrawl and index it again.
Hope this helps.

404s clinging on in Search Console
What is a reasonable length of time to expect 404s to be resolved in Search Console? There was a mass of 404s that were built up from directory changes and filtering URLs that have been fixed. These have all been fixed but of course there are some that slipped the net. How long is it reasonable to expect the old 404s that don't have any links to drop away from Search Console? New 404s are still being reported over 4 months later. 'First detected' is always showing as a date later than the fixed 404's date. Is this reasonable, i've never seen this being so resilient and not clean up like this? We manually fix these 404s and like popcorn more turn up. Just to add the bulk of 404s came into existence around a year ago and left for around 8 months.

Need to update Google Search Console profile for http to https change. Will a "change of address" option suffice or do we need to create a new GSC profile?
In the past I have seen most clients create new Google Search Profile when they update to a https URL. However a colleague of mine asked if just updating the change of address option will suffice https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/83106. Would it be best to just update the change of address for the Google Search Console profile to keep the data seamless? Thanks

Fetch As Google Redirect from HTTPS to HTTP
Hi Moz Community, We just launched a redesigned site and moved our blog from http://sparkline.motifinvesting.com to https://www.motifinvesting.com/blog. When I went to check the site today I noticed something strange. When I Fetch a Blog URL as Google it is redirecting from https to http AND dropping the / <post-id>from the end of the URL.</post-id> So for the URL https://www.motifinvesting.com/blog/cleantech-obama-romney/1494 I am getting the attached results when I Fetch as Google. When I access the same URL in my browser, I see a 200 status code and no redirect. Why would Google Bot show that the URL is being redirected? Thanks,

Removing Parameterized URLs from Google Index
We have duplicate eCommerce websites, and we are in the process of implementing cross-domain canonicals. (We can't 301 - both sites are major brands). So far, this is working well - rankings are improving dramatically in most cases. However, what we are seeing in some cases is that Google has indexed a parameterized page for the site being canonicaled (this is the site that is getting the canonical tag - the "from" page). When this happens, both sites are being ranked, and the parameterized page appears to be blocking the canonical. The question is, how do I remove canonicaled pages from Google's index? If Google doesn't crawl the page in question, it never sees the canonical tag, and we still have duplicate content. Example: A. www.domain2.com/productname.cfm%3FclickSource%3DXSELL_PR is ranked at #35, and B. www.domain1.com/productname.cfm is ranked at #12. (yes, I know that upper case is bad. We fixed that too.) Page A has the canonical tag, but page B's rank didn't improve. I know that there are no guarantees that it will improve, but I am seeing a pattern. Page A appears to be preventing Google from passing link juice via canonical. If Google doesn't crawl Page A, it can't see the rel=canonical tag. We likely have thousands of pages like this. Any ideas? Does it make sense to block the "clicksource" parameter in GWT? That kind of scares me.

How to make Google index your site? (Blocked with robots.txt for a long time)
The problem is the for the long time we had a website m.imones.lt but it was blocked with robots.txt.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | FCRMediaLietuva
But after a long time we want Google to index it. We unblocked it 1 week or 8 days ago. But Google still does not recognize it. I type site:m.imones.lt and it says it is still blocked with robots.txt What should be the process to make Google crawl this mobile version faster? Thanks!0 -
Why does Google show Titles different than the coded titles?
Hi, I've noticed that on many pages Google shows on the SERPS titles that he chose for me and not necessarily the ones coded in the Title tag (usually small difference like adding suffix etc.). Why is that? Thanks

How long until 301 passes juice to new site?
We put up a new site for an attorney and changed his url along with total redevelopment. We used a 301 for the old to the new and it does resolve to the new. It has been one month and the old site in OSE still shows DA of 37 with PA for homepage of 15. The new site has come up.....to a DA of 6 with homepage at 1 still. For any who might wish it, the referring site is theHollandLawFirm.com and the new site is Houston-Bankruptcy-Attorney.info. Would love to know of any experience with the timing on this.
