Oh crap.... Just got de-indexed

Hey fam.
So I'm a content creator and halfway SEO for a Locksmith company here in Oregon. As probably a lot of you know, the Locksmith industry is known for being super spammy. This company was no different. In 2009 they had like 50 urls for 5 metros. All ranking on page one or close.
Well, when I came on I helped them clean up this mess and get honest. It's been quite a journey but we have 301'd almost every Url back to their one and only brand domain.
We use wp-engine (whom I love) and we have never had an issue redirecting anything. But last week, we were finally ready to redirect one of their highest ranking domains back to a proper landing page on the main site. Everything looked clean and we were literally ranking number one in that metro.
Then we get this email:
| Hello Meier,
Your SSL/TLS certificate order for locksmithplusincbendor.com had a domain validation error, so we could not successfully set up your certificate for lpibend.
The most common cause for this error is that your domain is not pointed to the correct WP Engine install or IP address. To fix this error and prevent it in the future, we recommend using a CNAME record for your domain instead of an A record.
If you have further questions about configuring your domain, please start a chat in the User Portal and a support tech will be glad to help. |
and the next day we just disappeared from all rankings. I called wp-engine, they said they fixed a problem with the cdn the ssl.
I requested reindexing in search console.
Is there anything else I can do? How long should we expect to be out of the game?
Thank you so much gang, it's pretty embarring to have this happen, I can't even begin to explain how livid they are with me.

It depends.
If it was deindexed for many days its possible that rankings will not be exactly the same.
If the time off is not that much it will probably return with no harm. All this taking in consideration that the redirects, https and all that stuff is correctly done.

Hi Meier,
I've just googled that site and IT IS INDEXED! Check the attached image.
What bad day you've had. That's a journey none of us SEO's want to have.
Best luck
GR.

My url disappeared from Google but Search Console shows indexed. This url has been indexed for more than a year. Please help!
Super weird problem that I can't solve for last 5 hours. One of my urls: https://www.dcacar.com/lax-car-service.html Has been indexed for more than a year and also has an AMP version, few hours ago I realized that it had disappeared from serps. We were ranking on page 1 for several key terms. When I perform a search "site:dcacar.com " the url is no where to be found on all 5 pages. But when I check my Google Console it shows as indexed I requested to index again but nothing changed. All other 50 or so urls are not effected at all, this is the only url that has gone missing can someone solve this mystery for me please. Thanks a lot in advance.

Does Google Index URLs that are always 302 redirected
Hello community Due to the architecture of our site, we have a bunch of URLs that are 302 redirected to the same URL plus a query string appended to it. For example: www.example.com/hello.html is 302 redirected to www.example.com/hello.html?___store=abc The www.example.com/hello.html?___store=abc page also has a link canonical tag to www.example.com/hello.html In the above example, can www.example.com/hello.html every be Indexed, by google as I assume the googlebot will always be redirected to www.example.com/hello.html?___store=abc and will never see www.example.com/hello.html ? Thanks in advance for the help!

De-indexed Link Directory
Howdy Guys, I'm currently working through our 4th reconsideration request and just have a couple of questions. Using Link Detox (www.linkresearchtools.com) new tool they have flagged up a 64 links that are Toxic and should be removed. After analysing them further alot / most of them are link directories that have now been de-indexed by Google. Do you think we should still ask for them to be removed or is this a pointless exercise as the links has already been removed because its been de-indexed. Would like your views on this guys.

Redirect index.php to domain address
The question says it all really. Google analytics shows me that my top 2 pages are my domain address and index.php, which are exactly the same. Is it best to leave it like this or redirect index.php to my domain address?

Google replacing subpages in index with home page?
Hi! I run a backlink building company. Recently, we had a customer who had us build targeted backlinks to certain subpages on his site. Then something really bizarre happened...all of a sudden, their subpages that were indexed in Google (the ones we were building links to) disappeared from the index, to be replaced with their home page. They haven't lost their rank, per se--it's just now their home page instead of their subpages. At this point, we are tracking literally thousands of keywords for our link building customers, and we've never run into this issue before. Have you ever run into it? If so, what's the best way to handle it from an SEO company perspective? They have a sitemap.xml and their GWT account reports no crawl errors, so it doesn't seem to be a site issue.
