Any risks involved in redirecting low quality Infringement website?
-
Hi all,
Recently we have over taken one of the websites (with Trademark Infringement )who been using our domain name in their domain. That website got no traffic or backlinks. Is there any risk involved in redirecting that website to our website?
Thanks

Hi VTMOZ,
If there is no issues with the domain, as you indicate, than do a auto redirect 301.

Hi Ende,
I have an extended question for this. If the acquired website is good with authority and backlinks, what is the best way to redirect? Auto redirect or manual redirect (by set up page with our website link)? If it's an auto redirect, which is best? DNS or 301 redirect? I posted new question here.

Thanks

Hi vtmoz,
On your first question i wouldnt do a redirect i would show a message with a link to your website for users ending up on that domain.
The difference is that with a 301 redirect you are telling Google to pass all the link equity of that page to the page you are redirecting to (the good and the bad) when you implement a link on the page pointing the users to your correct website you can use a nofollow which will result in google not passing any link equity at all.

Hi Ende,
I need your valuable suggestion on this. We have recently taken 4 infringement domains. One of these have high spam score as per Moz. I can see their website in past and employed some low quality content. So, I wonder how to proceed on this? Can we still auto-redirect this or show a message with our website or completely ignore?
I have one more serious question: What will be the difference between auto-redirecting and redirecting them with our website link? Technically will it makes a difference to Google? I am curious to know if there will be any difference for Google when we auto redirect or let visitors click on our website?
Thanks

Hi VTmoz,
Although it sounds there is no big risk involved to do the redirect when there are no backlinks and no traffic, it might be better to err on the safe side and simply setup an information page on the domain with a link to your main domain. So that way when people accidentally enter the taken over domain they can easily navigate to your correct site, and you don´t risk any legacy issues with the taken over domain.
If you do decide to redirect you could additionally check in the GSC for manual penalties, check spam score on Moz and citation flow / trus flow on Majestic and view archive.org to check for any spam content in the past (though all these are unlikely when you have not found backlinks or traffic).
Anyway good you got the domain that was infringing on your trademark!

Google ranking penalty: Limited to specific pages or complete website?
Hi all, Let's say few pages on the website dropped in the rankings due to poor optimisation of the pages or hit by algo updates. Does Google limits the ranking drop only to these pages or the entire website will have any impact? I mean will this cause ranking drop to the homepage for primary keyword? Will Google pose the penalty to other pages in the website if few pages drop in the rankings. Thanks

Google stopped showing time frame for the cached results of the websites; Why? Any alternatives?
Hi Moz community If we Google "site:website.com"; it'll list the cached pages from the website. And we used to check them on required date range like how and which pages got indexed. But date range is not working now and the results are missing the pages which got indexed at the selected date range. Any idea why Google does this? Any alternatives to find the recently indexed pages? Thanks

Redirecting acquired website: DNS or 301?
Hi all, We have taken down some infringing websites and acquired them, so far we made around 40 websites. We are using DNS to land on our website from the acquired. But I've see that recently that DNS is not a redirect and we must 301 redirect from the old site to the new site. Also there is a potential harm in employing DNS method due to the duplicate content that will harm SERP performance severely. Which is the best way? DNS or 301 redirect? Thanks

Why a terrible website ranks number 1??
Hi, I'm an SEO newbie. A couple of months ago I launched a new E-Commerce website for my client : http://www.corporategiftsshop.co.za The site has over 1000 pages indexed in Google. I've done some link building and on-page SEO for the keyword terms : corporate gifts

promotional items
promotional gifts Currently the website ranks number 31 for "Corporate Gifts" in Google.co.za What I cannot comprehend, is that the site which ranks number 1 is simply shocking! http://www.corporategifts.co.za/ It is a single, static webpage with all links pointing to another website : http://www.promogifts.co.za It has 1 back link and a page rank of zero, yet it still ranks number 1? Can anyone give me a reason or some insight into this as it has me stumped.. Some of the other sites in the top 5 are also poor, yet they still rank high. Our site has a Page rank of 5 and 67 unique domains which links to it ( according to our webmaster tools ) yet it still only manages a 31 ranking?? Any advise would be greatly appreciated as I need to make sense of this, otherwise hang up my SEO gloves.. Regards, Marnus.1 -
Long term plan for a large htaccess file with 301 redirects
We setup a pretty large htaccess file in February for a site that involved over 2,000 lines of 301 redirects from old product url's to new ones. The 'old urls' still get a lot of traffic from product review sites and other pretty good sites which we can't change. We are now trying to reduce the page load times and we're ticking all of the boxes apart from the size of the htaccess file which seems to be causing a considerable hang on load times. The file is currently 410kb big! My question is, what should I do in terms of a long terms strategy and has anyone came across a similar problem? At the moment I am inclined to now remove the 2,000 lines of individual redirects and put in a 'catch all' whereby anything from the old site will go to the new site homepage. Example code: RedirectMatch 301 /acatalog/Manbi_Womens_Ear_Muffs.html /manbi-ear-muffs.html

RedirectMatch 301 /acatalog/Manbi_Wrist_Guards.html /manbi-wrist-guards.html There is no consistency between the old urls and the new ones apart from they all sit in the subfolder /acatalog/0 -
Redesign, new content, new domain and 301 redirects (penalty?)
We merged our old webshops into one big project. After a few days we received our rankings back and traffic was coming in. Then suddenly we lost almost all rankings overnight. We did not use any wrong seo techniques and have unique content, written by our own writers. Is this a penalty or do we have to wait longer?
