What markup/schema is "responsible" for location pin in mobile rich snippets?
-
Howdy,
Saw this new(?) feature in mobile rich snippets (attached here).
Anyone knows what part of schema (or whatever else) is making this appear?
P.S.
From all responses, and some thinking, it looks like the answer would be "who knows", as usual with Google. But most likely it would be related to usual LocalBusiness addressLocality itemprop.

The one with your screenshot is pulling it off the local business markup it seems
-
I see Json markup, but as you said, it doesn't have anything about location. That's why i'm wondering where they are pulling from.
-
Oh, I didn't notice that the second results didn't have that markup. It has been bugging me for awhile, and I tried going through the code of their website and did not find anything that passes that data.
As far as I know, Google has been getting smarter in "guessing" they might be able to understand the location has been mentioned multiple times within the site content, especially in header and footer which most people put their business address.
BUT, I don't think Google just simply read it from the page content, so I went ahead a check the page backlink profile, and here is what I think it makes Google believe the business is in Decatur.
It has 158+ backlinks from local business directories indicate their business in Decatur (screenshot in attachment), besides they also have GMB set up, and have a consistent NAP.
This is what I think Google was able to conclude this particular business is located in Decatur, what do you think?
-
It does actually have markup. It isn't using the JSON LD that I have recently educated myself with for the purpose of adding the markup for my website, but it has it listed as "Unspecified markup." Nowhere does it state location or provide geo coordinates. I would imagine if you were wanting to get that to trigger for yourself you'd create an Event and specify date/time/location and the other parameters it asks for.

Thanks for reply.
But you didn't convince me I've been using addressLocality for forever, yet I have never seen this type of rich snippet before. Also, I checked with the tool before posting here, and, for example, this page (http://www.ridoutsbrownservicefh.com/obits) doesn't have ANY markup, yet it has this location pin rich snippet.
Can you provide any proof or more data that it's addressLocality? How did you come to this conclusion?
-
Hey Dmitrii,
You can always use this tool from Google to learn about the structured data of a website:
https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/u/0/
For the website, you asked it's the addressLocality markup which you can learn more at https://schema.org/addressLocality
Hope this answered your question.

We're merging 2 separate websites into 1 but need to ideally rank service pages for both locations
I have a dilemma, we're merging 2 websites, one an Australian branch and one a UK one. We've decided to have a UK page and a AUS page so agency.site/uk/ agency.site/aus/ but what is the best tactic for the service pages? ideally, we'd like a web-design service page to rank in Australia and the UK but not sure if this is actually possible, or whether to duplicate the pages and localise them i.e. /web-design-leeds/ and /web-design-melbourne/ What's everyone's thoughts on this? localised landing pages with some duplicate content or one master page with both locations mentioned? Thanks!

Setting Up Geo Location
I currently have a page that ranks pretty well for X City and is optimized for X City. However, I now want to change the strategy and set up the Home page for State and build X, Y and Z City pages under it. But I want to make sure that when I set the X City page, I somehow transfer the rankings from the home page to this page. I was wondering what the best way would be? One idea was to put a canonical tag on the home page to point to X City page until it at least gets on the first page or so. Then remove the canonical tag and start separate efforts for Home Page for State and X City page for the city. Please suggest if any other ideas.

Should I change my domain/brand name?
Hello everyone, Thanks for stopping by to check out my problem and to help shed light on it for myself and hopefully others in a similar boat! As Ive gotten more into this process of SEO and my online business (with the great help of many community members here, many thanks everyone!) I have begun building a wordpress site in prep of canceling my squarespace site (Im a Kauai based wedding photographer) for more SEO value, faster page load time, and more data and plugins to the site. During this time however Ive noticed that my business www.balihaiphoto.com has a lot of confusion/search results and content I think may be leading potential clients in other directions, or even google down the wrong track of what my business is. The reason I suspect this is a restaurant that hosts a lot of weddings, and in turn, wedding photographers blogging about the location (the venue is called Bali Hai and its not located in Hawaii) as well as a reality group here and that Im getting occasional hits on my site for "Bali Wedding photographer" when I'd like to be known/indexed and ranked for "Kauai wedding photographer" and am working on a lot of long tail content to add to the site once its finished up. I feel like Im answering my own question slightly as I feel that I need to change the domain and name to something new, unique, and not attached to anything other than Kauai and Hawaii, but dont know exactly why that may be the best thing to do, or, if it even is the best thing to do? I greatly appreciate any help or elaboration as to why or why not a domain and brand name change would be helpful or not. Many thanks everyone and Aloha! -Jon Gibb

Advice on Setting Up Multiple Locations
Hello - one of my client's is expanding their business and opening new locations across the country. I have been planning to setup up the structure as: www.clientsite.com, www.clientsite.com/location1, www.clientsite.com/location2, www.clientsite.com/location3 and so on . Is there any downside for our SEO by making each of these location1, location2... sites their own individual Wordpress install? The overall look of each location will be the same (and they will be using the same custom Wordpress theme), but there services at each location will be different (or have different names). I'd estimate there will be very few duplicate pages from the "main" site to each location site. Thanks!

Video marketing strategy for new sites - Youtube / third party vs self hosted?
Howdy Mozzers, We are a new UK solar comparison site looking to implement video to help buid our site traiffic / leads. We currently make a 1 min video summary of our blog posts using Animoto and embed the video at the top of the blog post on our site. The original thought of introducing video was to help our blog posts rank higher. My question is, which of the following strategy is the best for building traffic and generating leads for our site 1. Hosting video on Youtube and embedding it on our site 2. Hosting video on Animoto and embedding it on our site (not sharing on youtube) 3. Hosting the video on our own domain and not sharing it on Youtube and other third party sites 4. Embedding the video from youtube or animoto on our site and sharing it everywhere (dailymotion, vimeo, etc) Our target audience is UK only for the time being. We would like to build traffic quickly and are focused on the short term. I would be appreciate any replies discussing the different advantages disadvantages of the options and a final personal opinion. Thanks!

Ranking http://www when its forwarded to https://www
Hello, I have a question about the best practices for assigning "https" and "http" versions. We have added https://www.mysite.com in Google WMT and was ranking. However I noticed with my other tools, that http://www.mysite.com version had better anchor text distribution and also had better Trust Flow were as the https://www.mysite.com version had no trust flow at all. Can I assign http://www.mysite.com in Google WMT and still have it do a 301 Redirect to https://www.mysite.com. This way I can capitalize on the better anchor text profile and trust flow, and still rank properly? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
