Question about creating content pages for keywords
-
Good morning,
We are trying to rank our India based company which provides the following services
Engineering Design Services
Architectural Design Services
MEP Design ServicesOur target audiences are in the US and UK.
Offcource, we are targetting above services keywords on most of our main pages and created dedicated services pages too. But lately, we found out that we are ranking well for keywords like Outsourcing Engineering Design Services, Outsourcing Architectural Design Services, etc... which are actually very very good keywords in terms of closing the leads/inquiries as people are actually looking out for outsourcing but the search count for those keywords is low. (though we closed 2 inquiries from those keywords). These pages we created in past just to increase the content of the website.
I really want to give it a try to target those keywords by creating more pages, blog posts, backlinks, etc...
My question is if we create more and more pages around those keywords then will it affect the rankings of the pages which are already ranking for those keywords or will the new pages compete against those pages or the new pages will help to boost current pages?
We can write good content and blog posts on the outsourcing topic but not sure if we should create new pages or increase the length of the existing pages.
Can you guys please help with some directions on this as I really don't want to take the wrong route.
Look forward!
Regards

Hi Harshal
Let me be a bit clearer
1) Make the page more user-friendly
Enhance the page to best serve user intent. Add semantically related keywords eg engineering/engineer - services/resources/service. Ensure content is nicely structured with H1 having the primary keyword or semantic and sections separated by H2s
2) Add in images to the page
Yes - a primary or feature image with the alt text the same as the primary keyword. Other images surrounding the keyword will also help.
3) Create a single blog post which will link to this page
Not necessarily but if you do write blog posts around the subject, don't duplicate this page title. If you must mention engineering services then link back to this page
4) Get an interlink from home page to this page
Yes of course, but I assume this would be in the menu anyway? Also interlink from other service pages back to this with varying semantically related keywords. Check out our 'Service for Outsourcing engineering design'
5) Create 2-3 guest posts on other website and link to this page
Be very careful doing this. Make sure that the site you are writing for is related to your industry and make sure you are not reciprocal or 3 way linking. If it's an engineering website with a good Domain Authority (DA) and is not spammy then OK. Place links carefully and use varying semantically connected keywords/phrases
6) Try and create a video on youtube and embed it on this page
If you place a video on Youtube then the Youtube page will come up first. Better to use Wistia (4 free ones) or another content delivery network (CDN) to host your videos. Videos will increase dwell time and bounce rate - people will spend longer on the page which is great for SEO.
7) Put more efforts on on-page on SEO for this page
For sure but don't keyword stuff! Make the page easy to read as I have this post!
I hope that helps, regards Nigel

Great Nigel for the tips,
So basically I should- Make the page more user-friendly
- Add in images to the page
- Create a single blog post which will link to this page
- Get an interlink from home page to this page
- Create 2-3 guest posts on other website and link to this page
- Try and create a video on youtube and embed it on this page
- Put more efforts on on-page on SEO for this page
Do you think I am missing anything in the strategy?
Thanks again.
Regards,

Thanks for the links Joseph. I will go through them.

Hi Harshal
I have a lot of experience working with sites that have become bloated with blog posts which cannibalise internal content. They say, 'we used to rank well for xxx keyword, but for some reason, it's all fallen off a cliff. Well, the answer is invariably that they have published content which duplicates the theme/intent of the main money page.
If you have a page which is doing well for 'Outsourcing Engineering Design Services' then beef up that page rather than adding more posts which cover the same topic.
Stick to one page-one theme and you will not go wrong. By adding additional content to this page including images and possibly self-hosted or CDN hosted video you will see the [age gradually increase in rank.
Make sure that the title tag is concise following - Primary Keyword | Secondary Keyword | Company Name and that the on page is strong with H1, Image Alts and semantically connected contextually written content which is separated by H2 If you do this and don't use copied content or start writing blog posts which cover the same theme then you will shine! If you have related themes which have their own pages then cross-link to this one using a variety of semantically connected anchor texts.
Best Regards
Nigel

Hello there,
You should do both, update your current content to make it more insightful, as well as creating more page with content targeting more keywords or other longer tail keywords.
I'm guessing you are worried about "keyword cannibalization," there's some excellent article about this on Moz's blog which can help you to learn how to avoid and identify them if they happen.

To be honest, I wouldn't worry too much about this.
Hope this helps,

Keyword ranking for different page than the page optimized
I have optimized "equipment trailer for rent" on this page: http://www.bigtrailerrentals.com/flatbed-trailer-rentals/equipment-deckover. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me why Google has chosen to rank the keyword phrase for this page: http://www.bigtrailerrentals.com/flatbed-trailer-rentals/equipment-24 This is just one example. It has happened on several of my pages / keywords.

Horrible ranking for hundreds of content pages
We have hundreds of pages of restaurant reviews (each is 100% original content) on our site (for example, here is a list of many of the content pages: https://www.rewards21.com/articles). The PA of almost every page is 1 (ouch). Doing even the most long-tail Google search doesn't bring up one of those pages (even if I include our company name in the search string). I'm certain we have lots of room to improve SEO, but not even seeing the pages come up for even the most long-tail search has me concerned... Our site used to be on Wordpress many months ago and many of these pages ranked fine..ever since switching away from Wordpress, we've not made any SEO progress. Am wondering if something major is "broken" with our site SEO...

Search Console shows structure keywords more significant over content keywords. What is wrong?
Search Console shows non content related - website structure keywords as:
On-Page Optimization | | Yaz-
"categories, account, facebook,..." as top significant keywords. And after those comes the website's content keywords.
These words come from the header as I can notice. Am I repeating the content keywords less? Is there a way to adjust this? I am sure this affects my Adsense targeting.
What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions?0 -
Acquired Old, Bad Content Site That Ranks Great. Redirect to Content on My Site?
Hello. my company acquired another website. This website is very old, the content within is decent at best, but still manages to rank very well for valuable phrases. Currently, we're leaving the entire site active on its own for its brand, but i'd like to at least redirect some of the content back to our main website. I can't justify spending the time to create improved content on that site and not our main site though. What would be the best practice here? 1. Cross-domain canonical - and build the new content on our main website? 2. 301 Redirect Old Article to New Location containing better article 3. Leave the content where it is - you won't be able to transfer the ranking across domain. Thanks for your input.

Content with changing URL and duplicate content
Hi everyone, I have a question regarding content (user reviews), that are changing URL all the time. We get a lot of reviews from users that have been dining at our partner restaurants, which get posted on our site under (new) “reviews”. My worry however is that the URL for these reviews is changing all the time. The reason for this is that they start on page 1, and then get pushed down to page 2, and so on when new reviews come in. http://www.r2n.dk/restaurant-anmeldelser I’m guessing that this could cause for serious indexing problems? I can see in google that some reviews are indexed multiple times with different URLs, and some are not indexed at all. We further more have the specific reviews under each restaurant profile. I’m not sure if this could be considered duplicate content? Maybe we should tell google not to index the “new reviews section” by using robots.txt. We don’t get much traffic on these URLs anyways, and all reviews are still under each restaurant-profile. Or maybe the canonical tag can be used? I look forward to your input. Cheers, Christian

Newbie question - Optimize homepage or create new page?
Hey everyone! I'm new here and wondering if anybody could help with a question. I'm trying to optimize for the keyword "meet people". I've attached a screenshot of the Moz SERP report for the top 10 results for this keyword for Google (UK). Unfortunately my domain doesn't make the top ten - we're currently raked 11th. My domain - tastebuds.fm - has a domain authority of 53 and the homepage has a page authority of 61 which is way way above the scores for the 1st placed result. What am I doing wrong? Should I focus on competing using a page that contains the keyword eg. http://tastebuds.fm/meet-people OR should I work on improving the 11th place of my homepage by tweaking the content? Bear in mind I already have an A grade for on-page optimization of the homepage for the keyword in question. If I decided to optimize a new page... how long would it take before I ranked well for the page if the only place it was linked was from the homepage? Also what should I put on this new page? Our homepage already converts well so should I duplicate it somehow? 4ENqCPz.png

Should I have content on my home page or links to my articles
Hi, i have asked this question a couple of times without any luck so i am hoping third time lucky. My site www.in2town.co.uk has dropped in the rankings for two of my important keywords, lifestyle magazine and lifestyle news, so i am just wondering if i have to much content on the page for google to understand what the page is about. i am thinking to just have the links on my page instead of the intro to the articles, for example another online magazine does this, http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/ Can anyone please let me know if i should keep the intro to the articles or if i should go with the links idea like femalefirst does to help google understand that we are a lifestyle magazine any advice would be great

Would I be safe canonicalizing comments pages on the first page?
We are building comment pages for an article site that live on a separate URL from the article (I know this is not ideal, but it is necessary). Each comments page will have a summary of the article at the top. Would I be safe using the first page of comments as the canonical URL for all subsequent comment pages? Or could I get away with using the actual article page as the canonical URL for all comment pages?
