In order for Google to recognize a hyper-link on your website, does it have to be written in a specific java script?
-
Does it have to read as the following script?
-
Not a problem I find that all too often, if the question is a bit ambiguous - people will ignore it. If there are only a handful of interpretations, I will still try to answer
-
Thank you, that was extremely insightful and helpful.

Just so you are aware, the code-sample which you supplied is HTML and not JavaScript (or for that matter, any type of script. Scripting languages include JavaScript, Python, Ruby, Perl etc).
You may be asking one of two things (I think!):
1) Is there a set HTML format for hyperlinks which Google knows how to read?
Yes, and you can find **information all about ** conventional use of the <a></a><a>(HTML) tag here:</a>
<a></a>
<a></a>
HTML is a static language and is not (unlike many scripting languages) 'object oriented'. You don't define "<a>" and as such</a> <a>is not interpreted based upon your programmed parameters.</a> <a>always means the same thing (to a a web browser). Sure stuff like CSS can style links in different ways, JavaScript can modify</a> <a>tags by injecting event-tracking attributes etc (also a common use of jQuery) but fundamentally the usage of</a> <a>is</a> <a>(mostly) universally agreed. So yes - links are coded according to conventions and Google will interpret those widely accepted conventional use-cases, as well as a few more experimental deployments (possibly through error handling in Google's algorithms). In general, you should follow W3C / W3 Schools guidelines. There are many forms of link (no-followed links, text links, image links) and all are valid but yes - they are predetermined</a>
<a>2) This is the HTML which my JavaScript will output - is it ok?
Yeah it's fine dude. If you can handle JS, you can handle HTML (it's way simpler). One thing though, although Google can deploy rendered (JS-enabled) crawling, that involves using headless browsers and such to render the 'modified' source code (so, what you see in 'inspect element' is the modified source. What you see in "view page source" is different, that's the pre-modified or base-source code).
Usually speaking this takes 10x longer than simple DOM / base-source scrapes. As such if Google were to deploy that tech on every crawl for every page on the web, the efficiency hit to their 'index the web' mission would be colossal. Many studies show that Google will not render JS on all sites (especially one perceived to be low value). Even on sites where they will use this tech, they won't deploy it all of the time. There really is no substitute for forcing your links and content to be readable in the base-source code (un-modified). It's way better for crawlers, way more efficient for them to work with. Just because Google ' can' do something, it doesn't mean they always will. It doesn't mean it's a good idea to ignore basic SEO principles!
Hope that helps</a>

Can a company group have reciprocal links on their company websites without being penalised by Google?
A client which is part of a group of businesses all within one industry but have different purposes has come to us aith a "brilliant idea" that they all have a blog on their website that links to every business within their group. We are pretty sure that this will be seen as "black hat" by Google, but just wanted to see what you all thought? Thanks!

Once you have cleaned up links / disavowed them how to get google to take notice quicker
Once we have contact webmasters and had some links removed / changed from money anchor text to brand anchor text. Or failing that once we have submitted spam URLs to our disavow file, should we just wait and keep and eye on the how quickly google re caches the URLs or should we try and force google to recrawl the urls quicker by submitting them to Google's submit url tool ?

Are links from charities really better than 'normal' links.
Hi Guys. Just wondering about this idea that links from Charities are particularly good. I've heard people say that links from .org sites are particularly strong. But anyone can get a .org domain, it's just that charities tend to use them more often. Right? I just don't get the logic. Can anyone give more detail about this? Is it a myth? Is there quality info on this topic I can check out? We're working with several charities at the moment, and they all seem happy to blog and link to us...so I just wanted to know a little more. Isaac.

Internal linking anchor text with automated ASP.NET link building
Hi Everyone I really need some help here, the problem I have must be one that many have. I have a simple e-commerce style website so 1 product page can in fact get 40-50 internal links to it. These links come from a mixture of: 1. The parent category pages that the product sits on (Rugged PDA) and in turn the 10 filter pages of this category page (Rugged PDA, ordered by battery size). 2. Alternative product list on other product pages, So many products link to each other as alternatives. From Google analytics we can see that visitors like to browse product to product seeing 5 alternatives on each page with titles like "Smaller", "more rugged" etc. 3. Manufactuer pages, so we have a link to each product from each manufacturer home page where we talk lots about each manufacture we resell. We also have links from images used in the website. So its a nice usable website but we're finding that Google is still telling us in Webmaster tools that it thinks some links are dubious and we're trying to find out why. We only now have 190 external links to the website, most are internal and from the website or our blog on a subdomain. The problem we think is that we generate the category and products pages all dynamically so the anchor text is looking the same. Will this potentially create issues for us? Dave

Pursuing Links on Sites You Have a Link From
Is it a bad idea to spend resources to get a second link from a site that already links to you? It seems like the marginal value of each additional link is much smaller than the first link.

Value of Link Redirect from Google News
Some sites are linking to us with the URL from Google News instead of using a direct link. For example: "http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=ghjgjhggjhgkjghjg&url=http://www.oursite.com/awesome-news-010123/" Does this pass the same value as a normal link? I asked the publisher to replace the link with a normal link but they pushed back saying that the news URL is better.

How best to link multiple related websites.
I have a handful of e-commerce websites that overlap each other some in the same niche. I have already heard that it would have been best to make just one website, but this is not practical for me. Our business model goes back to a time before the internet. We have relationships with manufacturers where they refer business to us because we brand web sites which will not switch customers to competing brands. Our agreements make it ok to link to other websites so long as we have branded websites that focus on the specific manufacturers. For SEO, what is the best way to link these sites? Site wide links in footers.? Single links at on homepages? One way links from the most powerful site? Some other method? We have been wrestling with this question for some time.

Do links within imbeddable widgets carry link juice?
I'm dipping my toes into infographic design. On of my desired outcomes is to gain links by having other sites embed my graphic. I'm considering using Tableau's interactive data visualization software to do so; thus creating a widget, embedding it on my blog, and including the embed code for others to post. Is it possible to include a juice passing link in such an infographic? I know its possible to include links inside the tableau graphic but not sure if they have straight SEO value. If these links are not juice passing would it be better to go with a simple image link that passes value?
