Site architecture? I've got a free user report, that shoots back a page with their data for them to share with co-workers and friends.
-
Hi,
I have a site about to go online that users can run a free report that connects to their calendar app to get 12 months of statistics for their meetings, and then it shoots out a report.
So they go to a.com/freereport and they get back a.zom/freereport/report/xxxxxx
The content of those reports is different, but the structure is the same as it is a fun way to show off meeting stats to co-workers and friends. I don't see the point of Google indexing those as the traffic to those pages is going to be from social networks and viral, but I do want the backlink credit.
Will I get backlink credit if I nofollow that folder? I am having a hard time deciding what to do seo wise and would love some thoughts and advice, what would you recommend?
Do nothing fancy.
Mark the report folder no follow.
Try to do something with rel=cannonical to point those pages to the root page?
Thoughts?

In my experience, it will help the overall site, but still... do not expect a huge impact on these. URLs are shared, but I don't believe people will start to link to them except for private conversations.
-
Gotcha, but how do I still harness all the links to those reports?
IE. if I have 25,000 backlinks to those reports for people, if I mark them noindex, follow how will that affect the overall site? Will it still help the overall site rank or will it disregard those?

Hi there,
I believe the most logical implementation would be to use "noindex, follow" meta robots on these pages.
I wouldn't use canonical because it does not serve this purpose. Also make sure, these pages are not blocked via robots.txt.

Half of my site is private for members only, should I use the Nofollow on these pages?
I'm trying to increase more traffic to my website. However half of my website is for members only and you have to be logged in to see content on those pages. I'm confused on whether I should use "nofollow" on these pages or not.

Bigcommerce only allows us to have https for our store only, not the other pages on our site, so we have a mix of https and http, how is this hurting us and what's the best way to fix?
So we aren't interested in paying a thousand dollars a month just to have https when we feel it's the only selling point of that package, so we have https for our store and the rest of the site blogs and all are http. I'm wondering if this would count as duplicate content or give us some other unforeseen penalty due to the half way approach of https being implemented. If this is hurting us, what would you recommend as a solution?

New site: More pages for usability, or fewer more detailed pages for greater domain authority flow?
Ladies and gents! We're building a new site. We have a list of 28 professions, and we're wondering whether or not to include them all on one long and detailed page, or to keep them on their own separate pages. Thinking about the flow of domain authority - I could see 28 pages diluting it quite heavily - but at the same time, I think having the separate pages would be better for the user. What do you think?

Bringing a large news site back on line - anything to look out for?
Hi, I'm advising an online news site site that has been completely offline for almost 6 months, and is now looking to start back up again. The site seems to be completely gone from google's cache. This might mean moving to new hosting, but with the same URL. The archive has about 7000 original articles. Most of these are date specific news, although there are some longer investigative pieces that are more timeless. Is there any difference (from an SEO/digital marketing perspective) between putting the whole archive online at once, or gradually republishing the old articles? Is there anything I should be aware of, when restarting a website of this size? Thanks - Chris

Double problem: mobile friendly site and shopping cart page duplication
I have a website that has two issues related to SEO: 1) the main website (product.com) is not mobile-friendly and 2) I have a shopping cart site (buymyproduct.com) using Magento that basically duplicates our product pages that exist on the main marketing website. Uses click "buy now" on a product page and are sent to the checkout at "buymyproductnow.com". The company cannot overhaul product.com website right away and our shopping site (buymyproduct.com) uses a responsive theme and works well for iphone and iPad so I am thinking of making buymyproduct.com the mobile-friendly version of our website by using a sniffer on product.com and forwarding users to the mobile friendly version. If I add canonical references from the shopping cart product pages and articles back to product.com associated pages, will this lessen the blow to any seo issues? What other factors am I missing/need to consider Complicated and painful. Maybe doing nothing right now is best. Thanks for any feedback.

Site Navigation leads to "Too Many On-Page Links" warning
I run an ecommerce site with close to 2000 products. Nearly every page in the catalog has a too many on-page links error because of the navigation sidebar, which has several flyout layers of nested links. What can/should I do about this? Will it affect my rankings at all? Thanks
