Text that appears when hovering over navigation tabs
-
Hi,
I have a Wordpress website and want to delete or edit the text that appears when I hover over my navigation tabs.
In my case, the text is always the same as the page title, but I don't know where to edit it separately. When I change the title of a page that is in the navigation, the text that appears changes too. So the general setting is that this text is the same as the page title.
Does somebody have an idea where to edit this?
Thanks!

Hi Kane,
I tried this method, and I can indeed change the titles but I can not select to not show them at all.
I tried adding a space, and in Chrome no title texts show then, but in Edge and FF, a blank space is shown when hovering over the navigation tabs.
I suppose there is only one way to not show title texts at all, being an override in the code. Unfortunately, I am not a coding expert. I chose to fill in some appropriate title texts, which also helps (a little bit) for my SEO.

Hi Kane,
Thanks for the answer. Probably you couldn't see the page because we are executing the transfer right now.
The problem with these links is that they are embedded in 'More info' buttons, which are designed by the WP Bakery page builder in CSS. So the link is an 'href' in the code , but not an 'a href'. In regular html, I can't reproduce these buttons and adding styling to them is of course more difficult.
However, the images are also embedded in CSS functionalities and the alt-texts are recognised by Moz, so I suppose if Moz can recognise and index these images, Google can too.

Hey Mat,
Answering your second question here - "I do have another question though: the links and images that are embedded in CSS (so for example links that are not 'a href') are not recognised by the Moz toolbar. I know that the toolbar only can see normal 'a href' links, but can this hurt my SEO? Or will Google recognise these internal links?"
Generally images that are stored in CSS, for example a background image on a div, will not be indexed by Google. If you're storing links inside CSS I'll assume it's a scenario like a :before pseudo element. In that case, I would default to guessing that Google does not treat these the same or as highly as a standard link, and I'd suggest you change how that content is added to the page to get it out of CSS or JS files and into the core HTML file that is being crawled.
I'm getting a bunch of 500 errors in my browser console when attempting to view the link you shared, so I can't see any content being loaded by CSS, so I'm guessing those resources are blocked to non-logged-in users on your staging server. That is also a potential reason why certain toolbars might not be able to load the content, however if you're logged in they should be able to fetch that content.

Answering the first question for anyone that stumbles on to this thread:
- Go to the Appearance >>> Menus page
- Select the correct menu you are looking to edit (some WordPress sites have multiple menus, or a separate mobile menu)
- Click the down arrow on the menu item you want to enter, and edit the "Title" field:
Screenshot example on imgur
If that doesn't work, then my next step would be seeing if A) you're using a custom menus plugin, eg MegaMenu, or B) you're using a theme with it's own interface. In either case I'd be looking at that theme/plugin to see if they are overriding these WordPress defaults.

Hi Tim,
I already found where to edit the title tag of the links, but I can not deactivate them. The only thing I can do is fill in a space and then the title tag is not shown, so I guess it has to be changed in the code.
I do have another question though: the links and images that are embedded in CSS (so for example links that are not 'a href') are not recognised by the Moz toolbar. I know that the toolbar only can see normal 'a href' links, but can this hurt my SEO? Or will Google recognise these internal links?
An example of the code with links that are not recognised by Moz toolbar on the page k488239.hosting.kinamo.be :
VERWARMING
<a class="vc_general vc_btn3 vc_btn3-size-sm vc_btn3-shape-rounded vc_btn3-style-flat vc_btn3-icon-left vc_btn3-color-mulled-wine" <strong="">href="http://k488239.hosting.kinamo.be/producten/verwarming/" title=""> Meer info</a>
Thans for checking!

Hi Matt, could you send over your URL so we can look into the code, I may be able to spot the location of the offending issue.
Cheers
Tim

Rich Snippet to Appear as a List
Hi guys, I'm trying to optimize a page to improve the chances of it appearing as a rich snippet in a list format (ie. Top 5 tips for...). I'm using the All in One Schema Rich Snippet Plugin in Wordpress and I'm wondering if you manually need to enter the bullets into the schema rich snippet maker or if Google pulls the information from the article and lists it themselves? Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Keyword Appearing on Home Page - Moz Page Grader
Hi Today I entered www.partydomain.co.uk through the Moz Page Grader and found that the Home Page is Ranked B. I noticed that an Area we could improve on is the amount of times we are using our main keyword "Fancy Dress" on the home page. Please can you take a look at www.partydomain.co.uk and scroll to the bottom of the page were the tabs are containing losts of content. I am thinking about removing all of thoose Tabs. Our Competitors dont have any content as such on the home page and are ranking higher than Party Domain for "fancy dress" What do you think ? remove all the tabs to be like the others that rank better? Or cut the text right down ? Thanks Adam

Navigation Links Causing Too Many Links Help?
Hello, I have read some SEOMOZ search results for this, but am still concerned that Google may see 4,500 Too Many Link warnings as a problem. This is caused primarily due to our header navigation, which is not intended to be keyword stuffing, but to provide all avenues for our breadth of content. site: crazymikesapps.com. Most answers seem to advise if there is no keyword stuffing at hand don't worry about it. Any help appreciated. thank you Mike

Category Anchor Text - all the same - should I worry?
I have analyzed several websites and have come across sites that have many backlinks from their category pages and those all have the anchor text of the blog title. Should I worry that categories in WordPress can have different Titles and Descriptions and there are plugins to help with the variation. I haven't found any good recommendations regarding if the anchor text should be changed for categories or how to accomplish that. (I have scoured SEOMOZ for answers but may have missed the answer.) Thanks, Linda

How many times should a word appear in an article?
Hi My site is maily about growing fruit and vegetables and was badly hit after the September Panda update. Each page is about one type of fruit or vegetable and discusses how to grow that particular plant. Each page targets two keyword phrases, "growing abc" and "how to grow abc" so e.g. "Growing garlic: a guide on how to grow garlic" would be the page title and then the two phrases used a couple of times on each page. However the plant, in the above example "garlic" can appear upto 30 or 40 times per page, also the phrases "how to grow" and "growing" will appear on just about every page, would these facts be hurting my overall site rankings? Many Thanks Simon

How can I stop google reading a certain section of text with my H1 tag?
Hey Mozzers, I'm wondering if anybody knows of a way that I can stop google reading a certain part of text within my H1 texts? My issue is that I have individual office pages on my site, but many offices are based in the same city; such as 'London'. I want to keep London within the H1 tag for user experience but I do not want it to be picked up by the search engines and start a canonical issue. I've seen some people say to use document.write or use an image. Does anybody know of a correct way of doing this? Many Thanks.

Keyword text block on homepage - keep or do away with?
One of my sites is getting a major refresh on the home page, which is good and bad. The legacy homepage was very long, and had a lot of text (thousands+ of words) in the body, with about 450+ links (internal/external) on the page. A ton of graphics, etc etc. Yuck. The revamped homepage is much improved. Very short, visual, fast, and SEO optimized. It's more of launching pad into the rest of the site. But, the text in the body is much less, perhaps a 100 words or so. The worry is that with so little text, matching the target kw count will appear as stuffing. The 'solution' was to include a visible text box at the bottom of the page, with about 300 words, basically what would typically appear in an 'about' section of a site. But instead, its located on the bottom of the homepage to beef up the pages content, and to avoid looking too 'stuffed'. Visually, its unattractive IMHO and while the text is good and informative, its under the fold and will likely not change that much going forward. This all seems very 10 years ago to me, but I'd like a second opinion. Is this box of text a good strategy?
